Topic: What's up with Captain Toad:TT stock?

For a game that I never saw advertised that came out a week ago on a Friday the game is very hard to find. The game itelf is almost impossible to find on Toys R Us without typing the name into the search box. It's out of stock online at Walmart, Target and Amazon, and all the Toys R Us and Target near me.

Did Nintnedo not make enough of these as well? It's a disc in a box, it should mostly be in stock.

Someday we'll find it

I am happy that I downloaded this one, as I was amazed to see the game out of stock on Amazon a few days before release.

I hope you can find it, as it is really worth it. This should be easier to restock than amiibo.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

My guess is Ninty put all their effort into making sure Smash would be in stock, it's sold out on Amazon UK already and it's not released til next month.

Maybe they're selling like hotcakes and, as such, are nowhere to be found?

No? Yeah, I don't think so either. So it's likely some screwup on their part.

When it comes to owning games, I'm very old-fashioned, and love having a rack filled with game boxes. Lately I've been seriously reconsidering that stance, though, especially given how abysmal Nintendo's presence at retail has become in my country.

If it's a shipment issue on NoA's part, it might be explained by having based the initial production on the Japan release week sales (which were less than Bayo 2 and Hyrule Warriors IIRC). If it's a stock issue on the dealer side, perhaps there weren't that many preorders, but lots of interested buyers? I'm just guessing here...

The biggest issue I think is stores are not stocking Wii U games, Trying to find a physical copy of most of the games is an odd scavenger hunt. Because they are no where to be found Amazon is picking up extra orders which is probably throwing off their stock numbers. The stores aren't selling any because they don't have them to sell making them less likely to stock up on the next release and it becomes a viscous cycle. Nintendo sells less physical disks and more downloads because people can find them, which is probably better for Nintendo, so they manufacture less disks to avoid overstock.......I'm rambling now sorry.........

Basically its a cycle started by the horrible start to the Wii U's life......and we are starting to drown in it. Thanks to the DDP though I've bought more of my 1st party titles on the eShop so it hasn't been an issue for me. Come January though I'll have to start looking for other sources for my gaming needs.

Out of the twelve Wii U games I have right now, none of them were difficult to find.

Some are easy to find and well stocked......Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World being 2 examples that I see in the stores all the time. I think some of it depends on where you live and where you shop too. I haven't been in a Game Stop in years so if I really wanted a physical copy of a game I couldn't find I suppose I'd stop into one and see the selection. The big box stores though, Target, Best Buy, Walmart, Meijer......have limited stock and amount of Wii U games at least around me and I've heard similar complaints for many games from other NLife members. Recent games people have said are hard to find being Capt Toad and Bayonetta 2. 3 games I remember having a hard time finding at a store were Splinter Cell (which I never bought) Deus Ex, and W101, both of which I ended up ordering off of Amazon.

Well I was on my way back here to delete the thread before everybody told me to stop whining, so thank you all for your thought out answers. Seems like it's probably a bunch of issues combined.

Think I agree most w/ @Gerbwmu and his beer swilling Mario - Donkey Kong buddies (I'm guessing that's new or I have you confused w/ somebody else). About 2 years ago when Wii U was selling poorly store shelf space was always one of my biggest concerns when people would tell me not to worry about Wii U sales, even if Nitneod only sold 10 mil consoles they would still make games. Yeah, they would make the games, but how does anybody find them? And are they making enough games, Gamecube adpaters and amiibo to meet demand?

On the bright side TRU had it online. I was able to buy 2 copies, 1 at 40% off, hit the free shipping threshold and mail 1 to myself and 1 to my nephew in another state (with a lower tax rate so saved a few pennies) all in 1 transaction. I don't know why I should ever leave the house to shop? Well I'm not buying a Christmas tree on line, but besides that.

Since I don't get to drink as much beer as I'd like too, I figured Mario and DK might as well have a few in my place

Maybe Nintendo or stores underestimated demand for this game. It's a good game, but its coming out at the end of a series of much more higher profile releases on the Wii U, and during the same release window as Smash Bros for Wii U and the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire remakes on the 3DS. I would not be shocked if stores either did not see the game selling very well and ordered very few copies or if Nintendo decided to play it safe with a limited run until they could see what demand is for this game. The same thing happened with Fire Emblem Awakening a few years ago.

I would not be shocked if this game turns out to be a sleeper hit. It's connected to the Mario Universe, the Toad characters are pretty popular, the game itself is unique and fun, and the lower price compared to other Wii U games might make more people either buy it as a stocking stuffer or to try it out.

I would suggest anyone who's on the fence to pick this game up. It's a really fun game, and it is the first major Wii U game to really show off the potential of the gamepad.

Every Gamestop within 10 miles of my house has it in stock. I don't understand why anyone would buy games at any other store honestly because for the same price you also get the Power Up Rewards points (at least here in the US), which I usually use for credit towards used or new games. Gamestop gets a bad rep for making such a big profit off of used games, but at the end of the day it's the best chain retailer to buy new games at imo.

Well that's 1 way to promote eShop sales, but I'm still not giivng my kids, nieces or nephews digital games for the holidays. Well at least if I can help it, I did get my kids eShop cards, but if I can buy a disc I'll always buy a disc.

"I don't know why I should ever leave the house to shop?"

That is my stance. Partly because games are crazy expensive locally. I get everything off Amazon or on the eShop. I only leave the house to go to the post office to pick them up, since it is a couple of blocks away from my work.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but aren't the stores you mention the type of stores that sell virtually everything? I've never seen those kind of stores, so I wouldn't know how they handle their game department. However, from what I've seen, most Wii U games are stocked in game stores, at least in Europe. I've seen plenty of W101 and Deus Ex copies around. Perhaps it's worth the try to visit a game store if Walmart/Target/Best Buy doesn't have them stocked.

Anyway, as @sinalefa said, I too have little reason to leave the house when I'm looking for a game, as online retailers are usually a lot cheaper. However once in a blue moon I visit a store, when I'm near, in the hope that there's some kind of discount. With the exception of those instances, I order my games mostly online.

Yes....they do sell everything and are not the best places to buy games but they are the most visible for the average consumer. Xbox and PS have a large presence in each of the stores I listed and that is an issue for Nintendo.....how they correct that, I have some ideas but I'm sure Nintendo is already trying them.

I usually get my games from Amazon because of price, but at times, when price is similar I try and support local stores, or if on a whim I feel like buying a game I'll look in whatever store and buy it. That was the case with Splinter Cell, for some reason I decided I wanted to buy it, was in a few stores that day for other things and none of them had it so I just never bought it.

Target and Best Buy have buy two get one free. Best Buy has buy one get one 40 percent off-not bad times to buy new titles. I did buy MK8 at GameStop. I traded in a physical copy of NSMBU for $23 off (paid $40 total), so I thought that was okay.

As for the OP, I ordered this on Tuesday with a Yoshi Amiibo and Wind Waker guide- got those yesterday but my copy of Toad's Treasure Tracker is on its way today.

That reminds me... I was at Kmart the other day, which had a total of TWO Wii U games in stock. One of which was NSMBU and its on sale for $29! Poor K Mart lol
