Please forgive me if this has been covered before...
I would argue that the Wii U has the best library of games currently available on a "next gen" console at this moment in time. However all things are not equal on the Wii U and I don't see the current status quo lasting forever.
With third party support being uncertain at the moment (hopefully it will improve if the Wii U has a good Christmas period) Nintendo may need branch out and make use of their existing and or currently dormant IPs, perhaps even create new ones like they have with "Splatoon". If they can't make enough new franchise they may need to buy one or at least pay to have it brought to the Wii U given some developers apparent resistance to release titles on the system for fear of losing money.
I think 2015 looks like a rather good year for the Wii U with some pretty big games planned. However these could be delayed so until they are confirmed you "don't count your chickens before they are hatched".
What do you feel is missing from the Wii U roster of games for you? Perhaps you go to another platform to get your "First-Person-Shooter" or your "Role-Playing-Game" fix? Maybe like myself you only have a Wii U (for now) and are just left wanting sometimes.
Personally I'd quite like to see some more 2D fighting games on the Wii U for example,"Skullgirls" is on almost everything but the Wii U so why not bring it to the eShop? I don't know if people think "SSB" takes care of the "Nintendo fighting scene" therefore no need for more fighting games?
Well, the Wii U is really missing a sports game. And the entire game industry is missing the over-the-top arcade sports genre like NFL Blitz or NBA Street. So that's definitely an area Nintendo should pick up on.

In general, FPS, RPG, world-crafting, and realistic Sports games are the biggest genres missing from Wii U. I'm also kind of surprised that Telltale never bothers to put anything on the system, especially since they were a pretty solid supporter of the Wii.
The thing is Nintendo has a principle: They will not pay to have a game that is released on multiple platforms on their's. Either the 3rd party want to do it out of their free will, or not. They make deals with 3rd parties, including financing the development only on games developed exclusive to their consoles. But they won't pay to have what others already have for free.
That being said, I think we need more 3rd parties exclusive deals with Nintendo. JRPG's are what I miss the most. An Exclusive "Tales of" or a Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles would be welcome.
I hope they announce the Wii U version of Pokken soon. Traditional fighting games are different from Smash so both should coexist, as Project Cars is different from MK8 and we will get both on Wii U.
I would love to see a sequel to both Lego City Undercover and W101. Specially the former as we may not get another open world game until Zelda U hits, probably on 2016. I hope Devil's Third is good, as that promises gritty online multiplayer.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Sorry I don't know how to post links more eloquently than this:
I've not yet played a "First-Person-Shooter" but I fancy both "Overwatch" and "Gigantic" as mentioned by CanisWolfred in the above thread. Doubtful they'll make it to consoles though and if they did I reckon Wii U would be bottom of the list.
I've never played a Telltale game but I really like the look of "The Wolf Among Us" I can only think it was laziness as to why it wasn't ported to the eShop at least.
Personally, I feel the Wii U is missing strategy games. There is Cubemen 2 and Swords & Soldiers HD but not much else, plus those games seem to be more simplified versions of strategy games (haven't played Cubemen 2 yet) I really want a game I can get very strategic in, like how I get with Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Halo Wars, or League of Legends. I am totally satisfied with what the Wii U is already offering so everything else is just an extra but I wouldn't mind something strategic
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

When it has that new Zelda, Metroid and something along the lines of Galaxy? Then I'm happy. I could complain about the fact that it's missing out on games like GTA, Tomb Raider, Bioshock and so on but as you've said, that's not why I have a Wii U. I can easily play those games elsewhere. Infact a few months ago I had a pretty empty Steam library because I've had an average PC since around 2010. For the price of a maybe two Wii U retail games on sale soon after launch I've got 9 retail games and 15 indie titles. So I'm not particularly upset that the Wii U is lacking in that department.
That said.... if The Stanley Parable was put on the eShop? I'd be pretty happy about it. Not that I'd buy it again but I reckon everyone needs to play that title. The indie side of the Wii U is decent but it could be a lot deeper.

Pikmin is an RTS. But to be 100% fair, full strategy games aren't that common on consoles in the first place.

Right now we're definitely missing that open world adventure game like Galaxy, for sure. Tropical Freeze, NSMBU, 3D World... all excellent games, don't get me wrong, but they just don't scratch that itch for something totally immersive like Galaxy or going back to Mario 64, even.
And to fix this, I really don't think it NEEDS to be a Mario (or even Zelda) open-world game, but instead, I think a classic Pokemon adventure for Wii U would be AWESOME, and it would fit seamlessly with the whole Amiibo thing they have going on. Man, the more I talk about this stuff the more excited I get for 2015.... Honestly, I'm happier and happier with Nintendo and the Wii U as things progress.

A main reason I'm kept away from Wii U is that there aren't any modern platformers on the system. Literally every platformer on the system calls back to older platforming gameplay and mechanics. Something that I missed, since I started in the N64 era.
Call me spoiled, but I like to be able to control my platformers with one attack button, one jump button, and an analog stick. I want to be able to look around, I don't want to be pushed to beat a level quickly, I don't want to be kicked while I'm down for getting hit, and I don't want to have to play twister with my fingers to run, jump, and attack, or any other combination of actions.

I agree, with the 3DS stages upgraded to HD and added to the stages already on 360, PC and PS3. Also using Silver's voice acting from Sonic '06 for the ultimate "It's No Use" experience!
As for other games:
New Metroid (already announced somewhat)
New Star Fox (already announced)
New F-Zero
N64/GCN VC
Finally, although I never got into Animal Crossing I think there should be a new one for Wii U. Take advantage of New Leaf's popularity as well as Villager being in Smash 3DS/Wii U.
