Topic: What will the Wii U offer the non Hardcore gamer?

I know that there was the arguement put forth by Nintendo that Wii will stick around and co-exist along side the Wii U, but thats only going to last so long (Case in point the few games coming out this year) I'm really into games, but really the hardest that I get is Skyward Sword, things like Resident Evil, Batman: AA and other super realistic games hold no interest for me, I really dislike super realism in games.. (To each their own) Some of the demos kind of give me hope with the Mario Mii game and the Mii Maze demo, but with all of this talk of wooing the Hardcore gamers it makes me wonder what Nintendo really has planned for the families and for those that are really into games, but prefer more graphic T, E10 & E rated games.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Probably the same kinds of things the Wii offered.
I think the real question should be "What will the Wii U offer for the hardcore gamer?" (I really dislike the word "hardcore" but since you used it I'll use it for the benefit of analogy and so that others don't misunderstand...keep in mind that the word "hardcore" in this sentence is intended to be interpreted in the way most gamers (apparently including you) would, not the way I would.)

If the 3DS has not been discontinued SM3DL and MK7 are awesome games, but if the 3DS has been discontinued Sony has taken over the world. It is not true that both Sony has taken over the world and SM3DL and MK7 are not awesome games. Therefore:Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 are...

Zombies and billionaire superheroes are definitely super realistic.

Ask the 3rd party developers if they're going to make the effort in doing that. From Nintendo, the typical stuff we've been playing for the past 25+ years. Never gets old for me, though.

Wow this thread got unimaginative and annoying real fast.

Anyway to answer the question we'll probably see most of what we're seeing already on other platforms. A new Carnival Games is practically a given, as is a pet sim where you pet the animal with your stylus as well manage inventory. That also brings me to time management games, where you have to keep track of two or more things at once using the new controller.

As for "party" games and things like that, that's anyone's guess, but the Wii U demos show promise for future developments.

Also the direct input that Wii U allows will make it easier for Trauma Center and Touch Mechanic type games. I also expect the type of downloads you would typically get on smartphones. Angry Birds perhaps? It's already been mentioned that Wii U might have it's own app store so mobile style games to play at home is definitely a possibility. Don't forget beyond games Wii U will have internet surfing, some sort of video sharing, hulu plus, video conferencing, e-books and Netflix in some form or another.

Everything.

I know Nintendo is talking about getting back the "hardcore". That may be true. But they will sure as hell cement the casuals.

The potential for quick stop-play games on that remote is unreal. The casual gamer is going to have so many things they will be able to do it's not even funny. For example: I used to spend HOURS playing the VMU that came with the Dreamcast. Everyone I knew that had a Dreamcast did too. This is light years ahead of that. Some aren't realizing how much of an impact this will have on regular/casual gaming.

Put it this way: You are a regular developer. You are not looking to make the highest of high in visuals. You don't care about top of the industry stuff. You want to keep developing costs down and higher end developing isn't on your plans. You have this new input that gives you a ton of capabilities to differentiate yourself and to realize an idea. Why wouldn't you develop for the WiiU first? Sony isn't doing anything different for you. Neither in Microsoft. It's all equalized, since I don't care about power. So I would gravitate towards that wii remore will the ability of dual views, touch screen and even make a game that doesn't require a tv. You can choose to go retail or like an app store, bite sized stuff. No other console will be able to offer that anytime soon. It's why the very best casual games came out on the Wii, even AFTER kinect and move. (Yes, there were a lot of crap, too. But that's besides the point. You buy what you are interested in. Why does it matter if there is crap you won't even buy?)

Then you have the potential for this brand new way to think of party games. To handle simple multiplaying games. The idea of different perspectives in SIMPLE games. I'll give you a stupid example: Imagine playing Risk in in single or multiple WiiU controllers? Or Battleship? Uno? Those are just well established stuff. I can spend 5 minutes and think of 10 concepts to build simple, stop-play type single/multiplayer games that would be a cinch to develop for and would require ZERO realism-type graphics.

And if I want to develop realism, HD type stuff? I can do it AND get the benefit of all of the above. And I'm not even mentioning the stuff that Nintendo will do with it with perfect fits like Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, etc.

The more I stop and think about it, there's just no WAY my console wouldn't be used like crazy just with these sort of things. And we haven't gotten to Zelda, Mario, the high AAA sellers, and multiple console stuff.

Oh yeah, one more thing: we'll FINALLY be able to get a console SimCity that is as good or better than on the PC. Why? The touch screen. Think of all the time-consuming, stop and play games that will be affected in the same way. Getting exited just thinking about it

(BTW Yes, Wiiu hasn't been confirmed to support two tablet wiimotes. But there's no well in hell it won't go out. A wiimote+nunchuck goes for $60 retail. Even if this thing was $100 retail it's a no-brainer.)

Wait what? The Wii U can support up to 4 Wii Remotes and it's secondary controllers (Nunchuck, Classic Controller), along with the Balance Board. Nintendo confirmed this months ago.

Everything else you mentioned I agree 100% with. The potential of this controller is amazing, but I doubt many 3rd-party developers will use it properly (just like the Wii). It will be up to Nintendo to show other developers how it's done. Sony is in the same situation with the PS Move, unfortunately; they're the only ones supporting the darn thing.

Basically, the tablet. The world is currently on a tablet craze. People are buying them like hotdogs or cupcakes. Amazon realized this. Laptops and netbooks are becoming extinct. Even businesses are moving into it - people bringing their tablet to work. It's insane. Nintendo now bring its own tablet. Now it's not just another tablet - you can't travel with it, but if you could, then it would just be another failed Motorola tablet or something. They needed an edge. Like Amazon has with Kindle or price. So their edge is the interaction with the TV. If the price is right, everyone would like a tablet they can use it for cooking instructions or whatever in the kitchen, then watch something on it, then throw it again to the TV screen seamlessly, that kind of stuff. This provides true opportunities for true home entertainment for the kids and the parents.

Not only does the 3DS come with an SD card, but it also happens to come pre-installed with one, additional dimension.

@Bigdog - the potential for board games is huge, I agree. This makes me want to go back and be a child again.
