Topic: What way could Nintendo radically change a game's playing style?

Examples would be Starfox for the GameCube or Paper Mario. Going from one genre to another, making a major change to a staple franchise. I feel like some games get stuck in a cycle or some, like Mega Man, have been kind of ignored for a while.

I personally don't think that changing a gaming style of a game that initially worked is a good idea. I'd rather be for spicing things up a bit, believe it or not I liked the coin thing in NSMB2 on the 3DS for example. Now add some injuries and stuff to sports games (particulary wrestling games would benefit from that). But yeah I agree that the thing they did to Paper Mario Sticker Star was really nice, not everyone thought so though.

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.

Actually I'd like to see a lot more of this done too. Like, what if they rebranded the Star Soldier franchise as Star Fox? Or how about Sin and Punishment as Star Fox? Or FAST Racing as F-Zero (looking likely)? I think it's safe to say that the brand attached to those titles really has no value even though the gameplay is still very fun, and sales could benefit from a more popular brand. Fans would see it as a new perspective on the franchise as well, so win-win.

I've always quite liked the idea of a big action/adventure game based on F-Zero (particularly as story seemed to play more of a role in the most recent F-Zeros), with a huge Wind Waker-esque world that would require getting to places by car. But then when you enter a city or something you go in on foot. You would play as Captain Falcon (using his Smash Bros. move-set), but the F-Zero universe has so many awesome characters that hardly get any opportunity to be seen or fleshed out, that the game could be full of them.

Nintendo has been REALLY GOOD about experimenting with their franchises. Of course they have the luxury of doing that since each series has like 10,000 games. They've also been really good about marketing their experiments as spin-offs or side series though. Paper Mario and New Super Mario are completely different from the 3D Mario line.

I'd definitely like to see them do this with some of their other franchises. Maybe an action/adventure Fire Emblem or a Metroid RPG. They could do some good stuff.

Where's the KABOOM?! There was supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM! sigh delays...delays...

Cool ideas. Some people probably thought the three day thing was a bad idea for Majora's Mask. I agree with the F-Zero post. If Nintendo had the audience, I would like to see a first party MMO. I know it'll never happen, but maybe for the next console if MMO's become easier to maintain and produce. Imagine a game like WoW but instead of hoards, you chose a Nintendo universe. Starfox, F-Zero, Zelda, Mario, maybe Sonic, DK and so on, then you could choose a character and level it up. Maybe you could use that character in super smash.

Or just a Zelda MMO with Gerudos, Gorons, Zoras, hyrulians, dekus, kokiri.

I know that's impossible, but it's fun to think about. Other than that, I think mega man could do a 3D game. He could be quick you could use auto-targeting.

I also think multiplayer Zelda wouldn't be too bad. Like a four swords with OoT style gameplay.
