this game looks cool. throw in that it's two for one, and ot looks like a no brainer. sadly, as mentioned it will probably do about the same as W101. It does at least have a larger install base going for it and then maybe there are wii u owners who want something different.

anyway, i'm preordering mine and also getting hyrule warriors

im even considering getting it, 3 things:
1-its coming out the month of my birthday
2-by the time i open it and play it i can seriously guarantee it will be 10 years from now, so when i get around to playing it, it WILL be retro
3-this would be my first modern game ive ever owned

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

Maybe even 300k sales would already be a success. Considering there are only 8m-ish Wii U owners at present. Not to mention it doesnt seem like the game the average nintendo fan would go crazy about.

Lifetime sales probably around 1 million.

That would be beyond successful, and is never going to happen. That would be getting close to the sales of e.g. MGS Rising, which had the name of a well established I.P. at it's back and a gigantic installbase on PS3, X360 and then even PC.
1 million as a bar for success is ludicrous, the attachrate would have to be astronimical, esp. in contrast to previous P* productions. I adore their games, but it won't do anyone any good to set goals or expectations at a level that cannot be achieved.

Would be very lucky to reach 300K, especially with Nintendo's marketing department.

MGS: Rising was the bastard of an established series that received hate from a majority of MGS fans who never gave the game a chance and the game sold around 1.5 million plus PC sales. Bayonetta 2 (+1) represents a lot of value and is not just a sequel to a game series as Wii U owners will be getting both games, the visuals are some of the most appealing on Wii U (I've played it and it is fluid and gorgeous) I feel the game is a much easier sell then W101 this is the kind of game that takes a couple of seconds to learn and enjoy.

If this game sniffs anywhere around 500k I will call that a success.

I'm not sure it's a great idea to release this around the same time as Hyrule Warriors. They're both Hack'n'Slash, and HW is bolstered by the greater name recognition of The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo baffles me: why does it let the console go for months without a new high-profile release, and then release a flurry of new software all at once?

Most people want a new game every month, with bayo and HW being different in almost every other aspect I won't worry. The bigger risk is SSB. 3DS vs HW

since Nintendo games take way too long for the price to drop(when it actually drops) they just release it all at once and see the lifetime sales bring money(at least that's my guess, if that's not how it works, they're insane for doing something so risky)

I think it evens out because Hyrule Warriors takes a beloved brand towards a game that people are meh towards and Bayonetta 2 takes a meh-level popular brand (not niche like Wright, but not popular like Mario, so meh level popularity) but is for a critically beloved video game. I'm not being serious for the record.

oh yeah, Phoenix Wright, another franchise people should feel bad for not buying btw.

Wonkers

The thread speaks volumes about the quality of Nintendo fans all told, or rather their ignorances.

One thing I have always done as a gamer, be it on SNES, DS, PC, GC, Wii or Wii U is try new stuff. To challenge myself. Whether I bought the games myself, received them as gifts, had to save up pocket money, bought games to finish then immediately sell to fund the next one unemployed, or having too much money for all the games I want as of now. There are certain things I won't play, for example Dance or Music games, or MMO's, but other than that, everything is an option, I don't dismiss anything else out of hand.

Case in point Wonderful 101. I absorbed all I could of it pre-release, still I wasn't convinced. I tried the demo, same, felt a bit awkward and I died a lot. But then I realised something; firstly, who was making it, and what it meant to even have the game in the first place. But more importantly, is that I was an owner of a console that had an exclusive and therefore, simply, being that it wasn't a Dance, Music or MMO, I should bloody well buy it regardless, as a duty.

As it turned out, I would still say I remained unconvinced by W101, a perfect example of a 7/10 game if there ever was one. But do I regret buying it absolutely not. I knew I was not going to love it but again I felt a duty to support a console and therefore it's manufacturers, as well as supporting the development team of the game.

Being a Nintendo gamer has always involved an element of risk, because we have had consoles that have always pushed boundaries either with hardware or software. So for many millions of people to dismiss W101 therefore poor sales, so easily because of controls, graphic style, 'not my kind of thing' or 'the demo was too hard' i.e not realising that inevitably the full version would have tweakable options etc is just, well, a very Un-Nintendolike thing to do.

Until you realise that the people who would not have bailed out on such a purchase have jumped ship to Xbox One or more likely PS4 because of the Wii 'disaster.'

Bayonetta 2 will have a similar tale, I fear.

Commercial success? 500K lifetime will certainly be profitable and respectable numbers, this is Ubisoft or Square your talking about, Platinum make great games on tight budgets.

Critical success? From all the previews i've said i think it will achieve this without a problem, the only complait i can see is people thinking how much better it would have looked on PS4/X1. I expect Reviews in the 8-10 region with a few 6-7s thrown in by Edge, Eurogamer and Gamespot depending on how they are feeling at the time. It may win a few awards but lets be honest they are all useless and recent have related to PR and BS more than actual gameplay so i don't expect much.

It would be great so we can get another sequel in the future but in all honestly i just want it to be a good game. Stats and numbers is not my job or responsibility.

@Wonkers a duty? videogames are fun, don't feel forced to get and beat a game you don't want, it goes against the principles of entertainment(consumer's side)
but please, don't take this to the extreme, those guys who know nothing but complain are far worse than those who feel like they should help the industry at the cost of buying games they don't want.

@ogo79 So is your backlog so huge that it still only consists of Retro games or are you just not a fan of Modern stuff? If you stick to retro because of the challenge, then I definitely think Bayonetta will meet that standard. The first one was not easy, especially some of the challenges within the game. It's a game worth playing and I imagine Bayonetta 2 will be as well.

But I did want to play W101, obviously, hence why I bought it. The surface value made me have reservations but I remembered who I was and what medium I was in, and I bought it for the reasons I stated - I wanted to challenge myself, I wanted to support the developer who I had played before, I wanted to try something unique. Reasons 1 and 3 are what being a gamer is surely all about?

yes trying something new and buying a game from a developer you like are pretty decent things, your other post just felt kinda like you were forcing yourself to buy something you didn't like at all
