Topic: What Nintendo Should've Done with the Wii U

Nintendo messed up so much with the Wii U and its launch.

  • The name is terrible for multiple reasons. Some of these parents who aren't familiar with video games think the Wii U isn't a new console at all, or just think they're the same thing. Even some video gamers were confused at E3 when they announced the Wii U because they only showed the controller and people didn't know exactly what it was. "Wii U" sounds like an ambulance siren. I'm pretty sure its codename was the Nintendo Stream, and it should have been the permanent name.
  • Nintendo didn't think things through with its controller. It only works well for certain games. Most games, it's just a second screen for a menu or a map. Nintendo barely even utilizes its technology besides the NFC reader. But, Nintendo could've put an NFC reader on a different type of controller. Star Fox Zero seems like a great idea for the type of controller the Wii U has, but not every game. Nintendo should have kept the Wii Remote and Nunchuck style because people appreciate it more, I believe. It'd be great to play Wii-like games on a powerful console. Even a normal controller would have sufficed if the Wii U was amazingly powerful.
  • Speaking of powerful consoles, that's what the Wii U isn't. I think the Wii had enough merit without it being as powerful as the 360 or PS3 because of its revolutionary motion controls. The Wii U doesn't have any revolutionary way of playing games, and it lags behind the PS4 and XBONE in power. People want the powerful console. Game developers want the powerful console, and the Wii U isn't, which is why there is barely any third-party developer support. Some Nintendo fans won't acknowledge the power factor as important, but it is extremely.
  • The Wii U doesn't have a robust online communications system implemented like the other consoles do.
  • The launch line-up wasn't as star-studded as the Wii's launch line-up. People waited a long time to get a AAA title from that console and felt that it wasn't worth it.

Those are just the reasons that are on the top of my head.
