There was not one game in particular for me; I just thought it looked like a really cool system that would be easy for me to pick up and play when faced with limited time. The gamepad is worth the price of admission as I now am able to grab it & play a quick 10-15 minutes without being tied to the TV.

I hadn't purchased a Nintendo console on the first say since the Gamecube, and I got caught up in the E3 hype.

I liked it a lot at first, then the excitement waned and I didn't touch it for months, then in early 2014 I played it a lot, then haven't really touched it again since June. Will fire it up again this week for Bayonetta though.

I got with Mario Kart 8 it was probably too early for me but with the free download I reasoned the next price drop would be about the same as that download (Which I would end up getting anyway).

I bought it mostly for first party games in HD.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

The thought of having just one console to play all my beloved Nintendo games on, with the addition of FIFA...... And then EA goes and gives us FIFA 14, which in essence is FIFA 13 and then moans about poor sales!!

I got it because when my dad bought the N64 Pokémon Stadium bundle when I was 7, I became blind lamb in Nintendo's flock.

Just because it was the successor to the Wii. I would have bought any new console Nintendo would have made. Bought the Zombi U bundle which was and still is the best deal.

Nintendo Land

That's kinda what sold me..... I thought the Ninja game looked really cool. Overall, I just liked the gamepad, plus graphics looked good to me- was looking forward to nintendo titles in general, even if they were up ahead- MK8, Donkey Kong, Super Mario 3d World, Smash etc.

Day one purchase: I loved the potential of the gamepad, off-screen play, asynchronous gameplay. Being a Gamecube owner, I felt the vibe early on that this was going to be another powerful, yet underestimated console. With Nintendo, that translates to amazing, memorable, mega hits that often times are transformative or nigh on revolutionary in their approach. I never cared whether or not it would be a raging success like the Wii. I just wanted to play incredible Nintendo IPs in new and different ways. I have NOT been disappointed. I still absolutely love my Gamecube (Nintendo seriously needs a GC VC) and as much as I'm enjoying my Wii U (except for the godawful name) I'm sure I'll feel the same once it too has been retired.

As usual, Nintendo is the only company out there who could actually have a console survive on first and second-party titles alone. Now if we could just get an updated HD version of that unreleased Factor 5 Star Wars Rogue Squadron game...

I will say I almost certainly would've got it by the end of last year regardless, it's just that conference that made me super excited and convinced me to trust Nintendo again. Which again, partially backfired. Unless I'm 100% certain of things, I am probably never getting a console anywhere near launch again though, it's clearly not a good idea anymore.

It depends. I thought it was worth owning Wii U at launch. Even if alot of people were complaining about how all Wii U got was another NSMB game, ZombiU, and 7th gen ports, it was still alot of fun to bring the console home and play some fun games on a new Nintendo console. It was alot of fun to play CoD Black Ops II on launch. Everybody that was playing online in the first month or so treated the Wii U like it was 8th generation and a console worth owning. Not only would Wii have missed out on those games by default, or wouldn't have been as good on Wii compared to Wii U, but it arguably better than playing on Xbox 360 or PS3. Everyone that buys a console on launch always tends to have a better attitude about said console, which is good to be around. Now everyone online in CoD is just playing, because whatever. Mostly people who bought it later in 2013 are the ones playing now, from what I can tell, so there are still good attitudes about games that launched earlier in the console's lifespan.

Xenoblade X, definitely. Before, I was indifferent about it, and although I had a lot of fun playing NintendoLand on a friends' WiiU, I didn't consider it worth my time - until the first Xenoblade X trailer came out, just 2 days after I finished Xenoblade on Wii. It's been a long time since I was this excited to play a game (The last one being Odin Sphere on PS2).
