I'm considering buying SSB Melee since I finally got a GameCube controller and memory card (I've never owned the original system, thus why I've just now got one). But my question is, should I buy it now? Or should I wait since it might end up as Wii U VC? I've found some used copies on Amazon for around $30, but would the VC version be cheaper? I only have so much cash to throw around for games, so if I don't get Melee, I'll get Kirby's Return to Dreamland instead as my last Wii game before saving up for more 3DS and Wii U games.
You won't be able to use a gamecube controller, though.
The Game Pad pro is apparently a rip off of the 360 controller which is obviously a GCN controller shaped different

Its a good bet that GCN games will make its way to the VC, it'll print money for Nintendo. However, you have to ask yourself one question: Do you want to play SSB now, or who-knows-when? The Wii U version is barely in production yet and Nintendo usually releases VC games near the release of its latest generation of that game's series. Hopefully Big N will make SSB a launch Cube VC title, but there's that possibility we won't see it until the Wii U/3DS versions of the game come out... in 2014. Yikes.

I'm so sick of people calling the Pro controller a 360 rip off. Do you have any idea how many controllers have been made? What are the odds that someone can make a traditional controller and it doesn't look like another existing controller?
I don't see people complaining about playstation controllers being a rip-off, even though every single controller playstation has made has been a rip off of the super nintendo controller. Or the Wii controller.
I would think that they would release Melee on the Wii U VC to hold Smash Bros. fans over until the Wii U Smash Bros. game comes out. But who knows?
Honestly, I even expect to see Wii games hit the Wii U VC. I know the Wii U will be able to play Wii games, but if Wii U games will be available on the Wii U eshop, then why not Wii games?

yeah I'm sick of people saying WiiU stole from 360 as well, and a while back I saw a rumor that WiiU shops would have Twilight Princess and Galaxy on shop for...... $9.99 which is a little suspicious since that cost the same as games like SSB, and obviously less the Sin and Punishment and probably less then GCN games, unless Nintendo reduces prices of ALL there VC titles

After seeing the way Nintendo has treated the VC on the Wii and 3DS I am not going to get excited for the VC again and than be disappointed. If you have the original console or in the Wiis case the ability to play GC games on it than go that route. Who knows when or what games will be released on the VC. If you have the chance now get it now and if it does come to the VC well you can always sell your disc than.

I guess I'll just get SSBM now, since I really want to play it. Really the only downside is that when the Wii U shows up, my Wii is going to the basement on the old TV. Oh well.

Then again, if Nintendo's unfortunate 'can't be bothered' pattern holds true, my guess is that we'll get a whole bunch of games like Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine, the Wind Waker and Smash Bros Melee fairly quickly then nearly sod all for the rest of the console's lifespan.
I will be 100% certain we will get GameCube games on our Wii U Virtual Console when Nintendo released GameBoy Advance games on our 3DS Virtual Console.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
Personally, while I do think GameCube games will appear on the Virtual Console at some point, I think we'll see more N64 games than GameCube games added during the Wii U's lifespan.
I would just like the release of the Wii U to jump start the release schedule on the VC again, any console (which I am sure it will) since its moving with all the pace of an asthmatic slug at the moment

I agree the xbox controller is a rip off of the Dreamcast controller which was an evolution of the Saturn analogue controller. Bit unfair to accuse nintendo of ripping off considering the history of that controller style.
