if you're looking for more story, maybe Skyward Sword. It's probably the most deeply written Zelda story to date.

OBJECTION!
Majora's Mask's story is much deeper than any other game in the franchise. The story has nothing to do with hyrule and the triforce. The whole of Termina is completely fleshed out, and I mean all of it. Each landmark, each character, all make sense, and every action seems justified by their characters. The world is deeply filled with it's own lore separate completely from hyrule. Majora's Mask is completely unique, and it's not easy to forget the adventure when it's done. (note to OP: try to avoid spoilers for the game if you plan to play it. you deserve that.)

to OP:
MM isn't for newcomers, but you've played OoT and WW, so you might be ready (when you are ready, pick the game up and play it. It's easily my favorite). Spirit Tracks was the first Zelda game I played, and I still love that gem, even with its flaws. but since you've already played WW and OoT, that game might be too simple. I recommend a Link to the Past on SNES. It's a true classic in zelda history. The story isn't that heavy, but its story isn't the point. it exists to be fun, and it is.
@CanisWolfred I completely agree with everything you said.

i am part of a social group interested in uniting the world by painting it blue.
Blue blue.

OP: You may just not like Zelda games, and that's totally fine. It also seems to me that you're really trying to get in on the "ground level" when it comes to the story which, to be honest, has never really been a huge part of the franchise. BUT, as some others have said, Skyward Sword is technically the "beginning" of the Legend of Zelda when it comes to the story, so you should probably start there.

I would say LttP or OoT, forward, except the Oracle games. I wasn't too fond of the DS ones, either, but that's just me.

Thanks guys! I'll definitely check out LTtP on the e-shop. Maybe i'm just having a hard time because I grew up with the 'easy' ninty franchises, like mario, pokemon, kirby, etc. Im 18 now by the way, but I've just recently fell in love with metroid, so we'll see!

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

Well Zelda games are pretty self-contained so story-wise I don't think it would matter unless you wanna become a timeline nut like the 90% of the Zelda fanbase. If it's difficulty I felt like Phantom Hourglass on the DS was the easiest game yet (but it didn't bother me cuz it was fun).

I'm in the same boat as you, I didn't grow up with Zelda and the "masterpieces" don't really seem like masterpieces. The first Zelda game that really captivated me was Skyward Sword.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

If OoT and WW didn't reel you in, then maybe you just don't love the genre? If you just like it, it's fine, don't force yourself into loving it because you think you're missing out. A LOT of people love the series (myself included), but maybe you just don't fall into that category?

I think this is good advice to consider. Don't be afraid to try a few more games (Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword are good bets IMO), but it's possible this genre isn't your favorite. The Zelda series is usually very subtle in its story telling and that isn't for everyone. Also, not everyone even agrees within the fanbase. Take me for example: I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE (greatly exaggerated to troll the fanboys, lol) Majora's Mask. Tons of people claim it's a masterpiece, and I think it's one of the worst in the series (and definitely not a masterpiece) and you TC might think it's a masterpiece. As similar as each game is, they are also very different. Again, maybe try a few more, but if it doesn't capture you don't be afraid to consider yourself not among the Zelda fanbase. I won't judge you

Any Zelda with Tingle in it is a good place to start.

Or just Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland.

Actually given that one of the biggest things about Zelda is the whole "look in that room you haven't visited" thing Ocarina of Time 3D or Wind Waker HD would be great starting points. Because for most of the games you're constantly swapping between the map and the game. With those remakes the map is right there infront of you AND they're classics that you have to play. With the map right there I suspect that you'd get used to looking in unvisited rooms when you're stuck without the aimless wandering. You'd get used to the idea of it by the time you're playing some of the ones without that aide.

............... but Link's Awakening is still my favourite (the only one I haven't played is Majora's Mask BTW)

This is a travesty that must be rectified immediately. (playing Majora's Mask, not having Link's Awakening as a favorite)

Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
