^ I just saw the two extremes of absurdity back to back. Of course, I'm convinced at this point Nightmare is trying to troll, amd I'm not sure if the martin is counter trolling or playing into his hands. Either way, Mortal Kombat is fun. Smash is fun. They're both fun for different reasons amd trying to compare the reasons is a joke at best and pathetic at worst.
You don't have time. Classic. Need I remind you that you were the first one to bring on this string of negativity by indirectly telling me to jump off a cliff.
Next time, mind your manners.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
@OptometristLime: Can't tell if you're talking to Chaoz or me, but in rebuttal (or agreement, whichever fits better), I would like to say that most games can be played any number of ways. I bet you could turn Dark Souls into a party game, if you had a group that found the deaths funny enough. Just pass around the controller every so often. Similarly, you can treat Smash as a time killer, fun hobby, amazing party game, rage city, the ultimate challenge, or a very competitive fighting game. It's up to the player--not the designer--what a game can be.
^ I wasn't very clear with my answer, true, it was directed at Chaoz.
For most games it should be obvious that they have various recreational angles to them, personally it seems like Melee fits great into the more competitive bracket of games. The skill levels being achieved become self-evident to anyone who observes the game and its tournament scene.
@OptometristLime: Naturally, certain things lend themselves better to one scene or another. In almost any case, something with a higher skill ceiling and PvP will lend itself to the competitive scene, and often multiplayer, a certain amount of randomness, and even a certain sense of unbalance lends itself well to party games. Solo games are often characterized by an absurdly high skill cap, a focus on quantity of content, and/or a focus on story. That doesn't mean you can't turn the tables and play these games some other way. That's all I meant.
