I own both of these and I think they're both really good but I can't decide which is a better fighting game. I have things I like and dislike about both but currently, I'd say they are the two best fighting games on the market.
you can't really compare Smash to traditional fighters, never could, still can't. it's like asking the better racer of Maro Kart and Gran Turismo. but I think even less comparable.
SSB is almost more of a party/sports game than a fighting game... so MKX is probably the better "fighting" game, but that doesn't mean it's the better game. I haven't played MKX so IDK.

MY HAND LOOKS LIKE ALUMINIUM FOIL
DOES THIS MEAN THAT I NEED A TUNE UP AND A CHANGE OF OIL
I'm KirbyFanDL3 on Colors 3D.
Seriously, though, even if you wanted to compare the two, it becomes such a case of "which do you prefer" and not "which is better." So the question then isn't which game is the better fighting game, but which one of the two do people here prefer (and considering this is a Nintendo forum, you can expect a generally biased answer.)
I don't care for SSB as a fighting game. MKX looks like it's pretty good for what it is, but I prefer Guilty Gear Xrd as the fighting game of the 8th gen so far.
Which one's better: an apple, or a pineapple? They're both "apples". The pineapple's probably better since the word is longer. But really, who knows?
Pineapple is not an apple, it's just silly english who started called it pineapple without any proper reason. It's knows as ananas in every other language around the world... It's like calling SSB Super Kombat Bros!
Anyway, I agree. The two games are so different it's really hard to compare them

Apple because it's much easier to eat. Pineapple requires a lot more work to prepare...... see? you can compare them.
You could compare Men's Multivitamins to a Kia Sedona if you wanted to. You're still comparing two completely different things. Let me quote @UGXwolf as to why this topic is missing the point:

I like either KoF XIII (Steam or I suppose Arcade but I have never seen it but a 60fps version) or the Arc System Works Fighting games. (Prefer either of those to MKX).
Smash Bros for its type I think it is the best maybe ? (I have not tried the Playstation Clone of it be very surprised if it is best though).

Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.

That would be a much more interesting comparison, as the two are at least pseudo-similar. For what it's worth, PSA was extremely unbalanced giving Kratos an edge on getting his siper meter up and giving the Ape Escape kid and Parappa some of the hardest supers to avoid. It also doesn't come near Brawl in terms of content (though you could easily argue it blows Smash 64 out of the water, that wouldn't really be a fair comparison.
I think PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale could've been a great franchise that made up a wonderful response to Smash Bros, if Sony had stuck with it. Too bad they killed the studio already.
