Just a what if...and let's just say for this discussion that what's going on in the trailers is doable on the WiiU. I don't want to even argue about that, let's just say it can be done, and would look exactly the same (personally I believe it, as Persona games have never pushed the graphics side of their engine).
So, would the game on the WiiU have created the same hype? Would you have gotten a huge backlash? Would it sell well (and listen to me now, Persona 5 is going to sell better than any Persona game before it, and is going to be HUGE, it looks amazing...I think it's going to sell better than FF15). Would it bomb, like Bayonetta 2?
It wouldn't do as well sales-wise. It's on the PS3 as well as the PS4, and in Japan at least, it's going to sell the most on the PS3. It's basically on the PS4 for the western audience (which is an increasingly large part of its audience, admittedly). If it was on the Wii U, it would move units, but much like Dragon Quest, it wouldn't move enough for a game that is basically half the reason the company is still afloat.
Imagine the amount of salt and seething fanboy rage from Bayonetta 2 being announced Wii U exclusive.
Multiply that times 10.
I think it's ridiculous. Plenty of people are going to buy the $400 PS4 solely for FFXV/Bloodborne. What's so different about buying the Wii U for one game, except that it costs almost half as much?
Well duh Wii U could produce Persona 5 visually its a cross gen game and seems to be using the same engine as Catherine, the Persona series has normally focused on artstyle over raw visuals anyway. Now about the question I'm certain it would sell less and not be worth Atlus's time to do such a deal.
It would definitely sell less. Persona 4 sold over a million on Vita. That's far more than Persona Q sold on 3DS with a much higher install base. This series has a large audience and that audience are Sony diehards.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

I'd talked myself out of a PS4, until I saw Persona 5, and Type 0HD today. I'm more hyped for Persona 5, as the style alone is through the roof, but I've wanted to play Type 0 for a long time. Anyway, it was just a fun idea I had, if it had come to WiiU. Exclusives are always there, though, that's how they get you. Probably how they'll get me with the PS4.

I know a good number of people that boycotted Persona Q because of the Price point. I was day one on every Atlus 3ds game till that one. I'll get it eventually but not in a hurry.
As for the topic it would be day one for me otherwise on any other system I wouldn't bother.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.
The interesting question for me is, "what if Nintendo had purchased Atlus?". If Sega, of all companies, could do it...
Oh, well. I guess it would sell less, mainly because the worldwide install base of the PS4 is (and will be) substantially higher. But it would be quite the trump card in the Japanese market; one that could very well guarantee that the Wii U's current advantage in that market became an evergreen thing.
And by the way, pet peeve of mine: how did Bayoneta 2 "bomb"? We have no 100% trustworthy hard sales data, and those we do have put it at a similar sales number as the early single-console numbers from the first Bayonetta. I'm very skeptical that anyone involved expected the game to actually do better than that, especially on a console with a fraction of the PS360 install base.
I would finally be able to check out this series. I only own Nintendo Systems and PC. I hear that Persona Q on 3DS is nothing like the core Persona series
But they don't even need to fund it, if Persona just came to Wii U I would buy it.
