Most owners of the 360/Ps3 will never see comparison videos for next gen, let's be clear about this. Like that's as delusional as thinking X will cause most Wii owners to upgrade (much as I hate to admit that...)

However in the long run they can be sold on the idea of them mostly because of expected performance improvements which are real. Not at launch for the majority and not without the killer app but in the long run yes. That's the reason why people would upgrade if they're going to. And no, X isn't what will get Wii owners to upgrade. Mario, Zelda, Kart and Smash will get them to upgrade. You won't get Wii owners to upgrade for the visuals because if they were going to they would have moved to the 360/PS3 a long time ago.

PS3/360 owners though. They've had upto eight years on the same level of hardware so there is definitely demand for a visual upgrade. That alone is enough to push sales for those systems for the first little bit.

Oh I don't deny that it will be a factor and has been on launch, but software is infinitely more important. For the most part the better graphics (at least in terms of graphics specifically as opposed to the power of the console as a whole) is kinda just an excuse to have exclusive games on new consoles so the new consoles can be successful so that console gaming is still relevant and the big companies behind console games continue to make money off of console games etc. etc.

I can hardly even tell a difference without a side by side comparison, at least when it comes to 7-8th gen games. Even Forza hardly looks any different than past racing games, IMO, but that's just Forza.

Even Killzone Shadowfall, from a technical stand point, looks to be VERY similar to the Killzone games on PS3. I'm pretty convinced that the IPs and their graphic style will always dictate how their games look and play. Even just playing CoD Ghosts, I can tell that those are the some of same graphical decisions they probably would have made based on my playtime with the Tony Hawk series before Skate "stole" some of its thunder.

I just gotta say, too, is that games like Viva Pinata and BK: Nuts and Bolts(I know they're both Rare) definitely would/will look better with the extra visual fidelity Wii U has brought to the table with Super Mario 3D World. The ammount of detail in that game is pretty impressive, considering the art style they're using(cartoony).
