#1. Facts but misleading facts that don't paint the whole picture. If you want to talk sales of the Wii U against its immediate competition there are only two ways to do it. Either talk about total install bases and maybe even expected instal bases over the next six months or talk about how they've performed at launch in comparison to each other. What you're doing is pointing to Wii U sales in a period that the PS4/XBOne haven't been through yet. Apples and Oranges.

#2 Typically the non-holiday period is the quietest period in terms of sales. January to July in particular is quiet because it's post Christmas buzz but pre-E3. This isn't an ideology or an idea to subscribe to, this is a fact.

#3 I was being polite. Average means bad ;)
Let's not go there please — TBD

#4 If I should care about sales because it will translate into good content then I don't care about sales as long as there is good content. There is good content right now therefore I don't care about sales. Simple.

To be fair to Nintendo, that middle-of-the-year low sales period had a lot to do with the fact that some games were being intentionally delayed/becoming un-exclusive by the third parties. Nintendo was not solely responsible for the loss of sales momentum.

And, as we have already seen with a number of PS4/Xbox One launch games getting delayed, they could just as well get delayed even further--especially if the third parties feel they can get a better profit releasing them in the winter rather than summer. Then those consoles also lose momentum.

The point is that these million-seller launches don't have any bearing on declaring a winner. In fact, more damning than the numbers I'd say is Ars Tecnica's recommendation NOT TO BUY EITHER SONY OR MICROSOFT SYSTEMS. Heck, they practically implied that they'd need to be threatened with a gun to actually choose a system to buy at the moment. ...Doesn't really fill "next-gen" with confidence at all.

Good to see how effective KIller Instinct is at louring in the NintenZoids.
Honestly, i'm in the same boat though. If somebody forced a super soaker or Nerf tripple blaster to my noggin i would probably gravitate towards the One, while puking every step of the way. Either way I lose. :p I'd rather spend the cash and get a PS1 & PS2 with a bunch of games including Contra Shattered Soldier, Klonoa 2, Mega Man X7 & X8, Silent Hill 2,3 & 4, PaRappa the Rapper 2, Fatal Frame II and Ico...Which are the only games i'll ever need or want to play on ze' PS2, then i can use it as log fire. ;) I would keep the PS1 though, tee hee.

Does anyone remember when both Sony and Microsoft said the 360 and PS3 would be around for 10 to 12 years? What do you suppose forced their hands? My theory is the release of the Wii U. There is absolutely no need for these systems yet. A casual glance at recent software proves it.

That being said, yes, there was a need for Nintendo to release a more powerful, HD system. I think the other two were fearful of a 360/PS3/Wii U market. And rightly so.

I think they meant for the life cycles to be more like that of PS2, with PS360's still being sold alongside their successors rather than them taking up 2 normal cycles worth before moving on, though I'm sure 360 got pretty close to covering 2 gens time wise.

there's nothing that's certain... of that you can be certain

I'd rather get plunked in a SAW trap, let Jig Saw have his way with me. Just please, no more Bland Bro shooters & twin stick controls! I've already been on this nightmare of a ride for the previous 2 generations OUTSIDE of nintendo, i cannot bare another. Mrs Pacman would leave me for good. There's no way i'm taking that risk, look at those hot yellow legs!

The ten year cycle was always a buzzword for we want these conolses out for so long that they make crazy profit margns to make money while our next gen ramp up. It was Sony/Microsoft's version of Nintendo's third pillar BS they used with the Gamecube/Gameboy.

I went to my friend's house and played around with the Xbox One last night. Honestly, being mostly a PC gamer, I'm not too impressed. We looked at Assassin's Creed 4 on the system (not the BEST game to look at solely for graphics, I know, but it's all he had), and to be honest, the PC on "high" settings is equal or better (from personal experience).

But the Kinect, which is the big difference-maker here, was lackluster at best. My friend's voice commands (speaking the correct commands) were only recognized about half of the time. After only an hour or so, he started getting so frustrated that he even called it a "gimmick," and this is coming from a married man who just spent 500 bucks on a new piece of hardware - you would think he'd be a bit more forgiving of his new investment that he was obviously looking forward to. And I couldn't agree more. THIS is what a gimmick is - something that adds a bit of functionality every now and then, but barely even works. The Wii U gamepad, contrary to opinions of those who haven't used it, is NOT a gimmick. It works 100% of the time and does what it is supposed to do - the Kinect does not, at least at this stage.

On a whole, I was so underwhelmed with the system (UI looks pretty much the same as 360/Windows 8) and the Kinect that I'm definitely leaning back toward PS4, and even then probably not until next year. We actually stopped playing around with the Xbox and played Mario 3D World instead and had a blast - I then went home and played Link Between Worlds and continued to have a blast. So what does the Wii U mean to PS4 and Xbox One? It means better games and more fun, at least right now.

You mean the downplaying of the other two sales.

@rallydefault

Where you guys using the right commands. I;ve noticed that unlike siri or Google Now the kinect's voice commands are very percise. You can;t inflect or use a different wording at all.

It doesn't matter. The last thing I got to say in this thread, is that the Wii U sold an average of 700,000-900,000 per 3 months in the past year. Even if it didn't sell gangbusters throughout the ENTIRE year, the Wii U still has enough owners out there to make it a relevant console.

It's not even about comparing sales at this point. Wii U owners could easily say that there are more Wii U systems sold than PS4. It doesn't matter if it's been out for a year longer to get those sales. The point is is that it does, now. It's more of a place holder than anything, really.

Actually if I was to get one now I'd probably buy Assassin's Creed and Forza. In terms of software they're about on par with each other. The thing that has me leaning towards the XBOne is, and I'm shocked I'm saying this TBH, the Kinect. Purely for the quality of the camera and the wideness of the lens for Skype. Then there's the controller which also looks like it has had more thought put into it.

but still, at the end of the day there's not much that's compelling in the way of software. I'm more than happy to wait this out and see how Valves attempt at an open platform console pans out. If they get that right and the ecosystem gels in the way that it could it will be possible to have PC quality gaming with the entire Steam back-catalogue on my TV, on my desk and maybe even something as good as the Wii U GamePad wherever my router will reach. So that's what I'm waiting for.

Speaking of sales stats there are some interesting ones for the week of the PS4 launched. Obviously the headliner would be the fact that the PS4 moved just a touch over 1mill in its first "week". However there are some other interesting sales boosts.

The Vita jumped by 228% which you might come to the conclusion was due to the PS4 launch. However most of that was in Japan where it had a 4x sales boost from, for the Vita at least, a fairly reasonable base. In the US it doubled going from horrible to bad. How the PS4 impacts its sales long term still remains to be seen. Wait for launches in other regions.

Everything else sold better than the week before. Everything. The Wii U had a sales bump and it was enough to make it probably the best week for the Wii U in the year so far but it was hardly compelling. Again, everything gets a sales bump this time of the year. Will be interesting to see what impact Super Mario 3D World has on sales.

Yeah, I started writing the first part as I was reading it. Noticed that Wii U and Vita sales were up... and then noticed that all console sales were up....

So from what I've seen, both ONE and PS4 have sold a million. But the games from ONE are far better reviewed than PS4. I'm actually surprised that Killer Instinct is given a great score. I thought for sure Rare was gonna end up being mediocre after it released Nuts and Bolts.

3D World will no doubt boost the Wii U sales. But I don't like the way Nintendo right now markets their products. its........just........there instead of saying.......WOW!!!!! or something like that.
