You don't have to do anything. Who's making you?
So you can't play Wii VC on the pad, it's not the end of the world. Chances are, Nintendo will add it as a feature in the future.
There are so many features Nintendo has been working on last minute, I think it's unreasonable to expect the ability to play VC games on the gamepad... AT LAUNCH. Nintendo can easily add this later on as an update and I think it's likely they will, simply because it's a feature they can add later on and advertise to pull in sales they couldn't get right away. It's easy enough of a feature, but for now we need to let them get through launch. They've been in crunch time and a lot of features that seem a given are simply not the first thing on their minds. This is the most stressful time for first party developers. Once the system gets out and they take care of any bugs in the early firmware (which is always likely with a new system), little features like this will likely be addressed. There's no reason why this can't be added via an update, the hardware obviously could handle this.
Feel free to add me on the Nintendo Network: ShadJV

Exactly
Let's hope we get an update come launch day.

Back in Black is the best song ever. Argue, and I'll have to slap you. Hard.
I expect to see Wii games in the eshop along with GameCube and Wii U.
I expect the ability to update some of the vc / wiiware games from Wii to Wii U, enabling gamepad support and whatever other new features (Miiverse?) they implement into the VC games made for Wii U. Similar to how ambassador games on the 3DS got updated when the eshop versions of the game came out.
I expect to see more Arcade games, and games from other systems. Any system made by SEGA, maybe some Atari 2600 or 5200. I'd personally like to see handheld consoles on the Wii U, too, especially with use of the GamePad.
I am still hoping for some system were you can have online multiplayer with VC games that are 2 player or more. Just a general interface that can apply to any VC game. That and correct ratio for the older games, the option would be nice.
I hope the rumored wii Classic selection is true, I'd DL 007 Golden eye, epic Mickey, SS, RTDL, Rhythm Heaven, and dead rising

If GC end up being on the Virtual Console, which is fairly likely, I'm not sure whether I'm excited or not. I'll probably end up re-buying a bunch of my games (even though I have a GameCube hooked up in another room ever since my Wii broke and I got the new Wii without backwards-compatibility) and that's not necessarily fun. Oh well, it'll be fun to play the games on my larger television again.

From what I've heard it's only one line of code to put Wii U content on the gamepad screen rather than the TV. A few more than that again to map the correct buttons. If they're continuing the VC on the Wii U, which they are, they're going to be adding these features to their new emulators anyway. No reason why they can't be updated.
Even if it's done as the titles are updated for the Wii U that'd be fine but it's not more work by any stretch.

I don't understand why they're not being updated from the start :/ all they need to do is code a few emulators, how much work can that be for a company like Nintendo? All the ROM files will be the same. The first thing I thought about when I saw the gamepad was how awesome it would be to play VC games on it. I assume the proper Wii U VC isn't going to be exclusively GameCube games, and that they'll add more games from the older consoles... Say they add a dozen new N64 titles, then the N64 catalogue is split across two shops, half of them can only be played in Wii mode... It's just messy. I don't like mess

I guarantee you it's not that easy to update the code to every single game on the virtual console. Each rom has it's own emulator with VC games. It's not a lot of work per game, but if you were to do all of them then it would be a lot of work.
In the newest Nintendo Direct video, they said that some games you transfer over you'll need to redownload. Do they already have some of the vc games updated?
