Topic: We Should Talk About The Warawara Plaza

Very great idea...on paper. Popular games trend, and it was a load of fun to view. There's only one problem. Everyone loves Mario. The New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, and Youtube community have been here for almost 400 days now and it's still here.
The whole point of Warawara plaza is that it's diverse, yet it backfired in some ways. Do you think the Warawara plaza is still a good idea, or should it change in some ways, so it becomes, a place to enjoy once more?

You're suggesting that, since people want to talk about these things, and thus the system makes them visible, the system is in some way not working correctly? How... novel.

If you're just saying you want the option to pin games (or prefer games for which you posted in the community) and block games you don't want to see, then sure. Customization is great. But it sounds like you just want people to be fickle so more stuff will show up.

It should cycle through different games more often.

I personally think it shouldn't show the non-game communities but it should also put some of the 3DS communities on there. Originally the appeal was that you turned on the system and you saw the games people were talking about. Now you turn it on and that's not really what you see. You see some weird combination of games people are talking about and communities that are artificially boosted by being more "general" or being cross platform.

Ok I get it, YouTube is for more general talk. I don't really think it should be permanently on the front page though. Same with the Zelda, Luigi, Animal Crossing and Smash Bros communities. I get it, they get a lot of traffic. They're also going to always exist on the front page. Where's the Link to the Past community? Assassin's Creed? Why not show A Link Between Worlds? Pokemon X/Y? Animal Crossing New Leaf? If they had that the Plaza would look much more alive.

I have no problem with the WaraWara plaza. Great and fun idea.

I wish they incorporated it on the 3DS as well for the 3DS communities.

I think the OS as a whole will change, with Miiverse being part of that.

Maybe a "games I don't own", the default "popular", "games I own", etc. options are something that could happen.

I'm not entirely sure about the layout. I know some people were suggesting that some sort of theme should happen. i.e. The Animal Crossing Plaza

Just bring over the ACPlaza with bulletin boards as the game logo, or have a Zelda one where the Triforce is in the middle with rupees as the game logos. All I know is that people would probably welceome some sort of theme option for their Wara Wara Plaza. It's not exactly necessary, but it would be akin to how Xbox 360 or PS3 let you have a theme on their OS menus.

You say that as a joke, but people's Mario obsession is genuinely sad.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the real big 3rd party success according to this. I wasn't expecting that I have to admit.

It was pretty cool when Tekken Tag 2, Injustice, etc. games were on the plaza. Scriblenauts and CoD: Ghosts show up every once in a while.

I agree though. The Wara Plaza was alot more interesting(IMO), when games besides Mario were there. You can't blame them, though. Everybody buys Mario, then something else. Plus New Super Mario Bros + Luigi U were bundled with at least few 100 of 1000s of Wii U systems.

I don't see a problem with New SMB U + Luigi and 3D World being in the top nor do I see a problem with Nintendo Land being up there. Those are consistently the best selling games on the platform whether we like it or not. It's like twitter where some topics are constantly near the top and others fly up and disappear as things happen. That's what I'd like the Plaza to look like.

The problem is these generic communities that aren't attached to a game. Would be like if twitter suddenly made four of its ten trending topics broad topics rather than the dynamic sort of topics that exist now (like right now in Australia it's Christmas, #auspol and it was #ashes). If instagram, vine, music and TV were always trending there's be less of a point looking at trending topics. Sure you'll always get the Bieber and 1D crap trending as well as political hashtags, just like we'll always get Mario and Zelda on MiiVerse, but broad topics? No thanks.

I think the point was that Wara Wara Plaza could be a more fleshed out experience than it is currently. I agree with that, but ya, to suggest it's stupid or pointless is foolish, at best. I don't think anyone was arguing about whether it's relevant or not. It obviously is.

@SCAR392
I didn't claim that anyone was saying it was irrelevant and I was talking about how it could be improved. That's the topic yeah?

I just thought it was a more vibrant "place" when it was just about the games that people were playing. You'd see a new game come out and instantly people would be talking about that. You'd see a cool indie or VC title and people would start talking about that. You'd think "hey, that looks cool. Maybe I should have a look?".

Now it just seems like half of the Plaza is filled with the same stuffs and it's not about the games. Like with the example I had of twitter trending topics, trending topics exist so you can have a quick look at what's happening and get some information about it. The original Plaza to me felt like the same thing for games. You got to see what games people were talking about and you could dig deeper and see whether it was worth getting into. Now it's not really about that anymore.

Oh, ok. I thought you were trying to argue against someone that thought the Plaza was pointless or crappy, and I didn't see anyone opposing the Wara Wara Plaza, if that makes sense. It was just an immediate reaction, because I know people criticised Wara Wara when it first came out.

NVM. All those complaints about the smallest things within the past year about the Wii U really got to me, I think... The Wii U could use some improvements here and there. They've no doubt been working on ways to make the system better, I presume. That's what they do, afterall. Improving Wara Wara Plaza is part of that.

I like the idea, but I think the posts need to be refreshed more or just be a live feed from Miiverse. I keep seeing the same dumb posts over and over.

Yeah, it's annoying that this pops up when I turn on the console. I would rather have my games/apps visible on the TV screen without having to press "1" on my Wiimote to bring the regular menu up.

Mahe

Warruz

More need to be visible
I should be able to have some always show up if i want

But i think perhaps in the future each (at least) major nintendo game will have its own plaza like Animal Crossing did.

Isn't there an option somewhere for like, "All Games" or "Games for Kids"? Perhaps they could add some more options to that, like, "Games Only" so it would exclude youtube and such, "My Games Only" so it would only display games you own, "New Games" would show off the newest ones, obviously, and a "Random" option where it's just completely random.

I agree. or at least a list of top 20 games that are randomly selected to appear every time. As far as I know, ever since I got my Wii U in the summer, not one day has gone by without SMBU and Smash Brothers somewhere in that WaraWara plaza.

I have another issue I never mentioned.
Why do worded Miiverse posts often get cut from the Warawara plaza? I don't like the idea of looking at thoughts, only to find that I have to go to Miiverse to see the full post. Loses its meaning.
