Ubisoft is a big company. They make billions of dollars. They knew very well that Smash (or at least some huge 1st party Wii U game) would release Black Friday US. Or they should have, and I'm giving them too much credit. Most internet commentators knew it.

There's no logical explanation for Ubisoft taking 6 months to put a map on a Gamepad. It's even more bizarre when you think about why Ubisoft would position this against Smash. It's not like they didn't know it was coming out. The timing was intentional, and it is therefore intentionally being sent out to die.

But why? This was never going to sell well obviously, but it could have sold better than it will now. It's too late. It's too expensive. It's likely not getting post-launch support. I keep trying to think of why. It never had to have all of these disadvantages. It could have shipped during the massive software drought from June-August. It could have included the DLC. It could have been $50. It boggles my mind why 3rd parties keep doing this, intentionally positioning Wii U ports in a way that they're as unappealing as they could possibly be.

I can't fathom any benevolent reason for intentionally publishing a game in such a way to sell as few copies as possible, so yeah, I think Ubisoft is a bad publisher.

They probably think it's really funny to do things this way.

I dunno, I feel like I should just record a Blues album to express what I'm feeling about Ubisoft, featuring singles such as "Babe You Done Me Wrong" and "Ain't Payin' Your Way No More."

That last post I made got me thinking about these other games that are out or are coming out soon which are more interesting than Watch Dogs. Also how I kinda implied that I was happy to give up some visual quality in order to enjoy a game with the Wii U's conveniences. Then I ended up watching the GTA V PS4/XBOne/PC trailer......

Yeah, there are more interesting things than Watch Dogs. But no, I was wrong, some games? If GTA V is a good measure of it? Damn, sorry guys. Not going to give up visuals to experience it on Wii U. Reasons for not getting Watch Dogs or other similar games on Wii U are piling up quick.

@skywake
TBH, I think GTA V is more worthwhile than Watch Dogs, too. It's still 2K's fault. They could get GTA V on Wii U and take their chances like Ubisoft, especially since they made way more money on GTA V than Ubisoft has with Watch Dogs. That means Ubisoft is still more willing to support Wii U. Then we have Capcom, which can't even figure out how to get REmake running in 1080p on Wii U, If they knew how to get REmake 1080p running on Wii U, it would probably be there. They still don't know Wii U's hardware as well as ×86 or 7th gen PowerPC.

This.

Also, am I the only person on this forum who found GTA V incredibly disappointing? A huge map filled with pretty much nothing to do. The satire aspect as now too - how can they expect to lampoon popular culture when they now represent it?

Honestly, I'm just glad the game is released at all. I don't blame Ubisoft either as they are in this business to make money, and their games clearly aren't appealing to Wii U gamers. It's Nintendo's problem for not releasing a system that appeals to gamers beyond their current fanbase (of which I am one). The sales reflect that.

Then why release a port intentionally priced and positioned to make the least amount of money possible? It's awful publishing no matter which angle you approach it from.

We all know why none of those things were included and why it was delayed for so long. I'm certain that Ubisoft pulled all available resources from the Wii U team to get the others out on time. I'll even guess this was done last year since they didn't hit last year end date. We got exactly what we were going to get from the beginning and nothing more because they've been spinning lies for a while now.

I'm still baffled by the remark that there is a finished Wii U game from them and they're just sitting on it and waiting. Why be so secret about it if it's finished and why not release it and make something off of it?! Not many people make a product to never be released with the intent to release one day!

Stupid web of lies is all that company is. To think I was defending them this time last year because of all the support they have given which is still twice and other company outside of Nintendo.

That sounds more like an awful pop album, but the sentiment is there

Here's some songs from my favorite Blues artist, BB King:

Nobody Loves Me But My Mother
Ain't Gonna Worry My Life No More
The Thrill Is Gone
Confessin' the Blues
Cryin' Won't Help You Now
Stop Puttin' the Hurt On Me
Rainin' All the Time

And he definitely isn't an awful pop star.

I feel like those complaints are probably informed and justified, but the scores aren't. Most internet users just use a binary rating system anyway (liked it = 10, didn't like it = 0/1).

I guess what I mean more or less is they probably waited till 12:01 and started typing. They can say all they want but they didn't technically play the Wii U version.

Well,

  • The Wii U is my only home console this generation. Even my PC is a tiny thing not built for games.
  • I'm not mad at Ubisoft. They're a company, a company that runs on profit. They tried to make money on the system before, and they couldn't, so I don't blame them for backing out slowly.
  • I am still interested in the game (maybe a little less, but still). I was never extremely excited about these games, but I enjoyed Assassin's Creed IV, and I think I'll enjoy this. Assassin's Creed Unity, of course, is just going to be the same thing in a new skin.

So... yeah. I think, if they have some sort of cool Gamepad feature, I should definitely get it.

When I look at the Wii U delay I think it is because of two major reasons. 1) They didn't want to delay all the other versions for the Wii U, which would have had the weakest sales anyways. Sadly, people don't want to buy 3rd Party games for Wii U, except a small amount of people like me. 2) They wanted to optimize the game for Wii U, especially after all the bad press they got for the other versions. Once reviews started to roll out with 7s they became concerned. 7s are not what you want your GTA competitor to be getting. Hopefully this will lead to better scores on Wii U (and I know a lot of people will say it won't, but I am talking from a business perspective) I am still debating on getting the game because I don't want the PC version and the Wii U is the only console I have. I am sorry so many people seem mad at Ubisoft and are taking their business practices very personally

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Let me ask you all. For all other versions, do they require an install? Obviously the PS4/XB1 versions do, but what about the PS3/360? For PS4/XB1 at least, because they install everything to the HDD, I'd imagine that the assets are compressed much more for the download/disc, and then decompressed during the install. Unless the Wii U version requires an install like the rest (but where would you install it to?), I'd imagine the reason why it is bigger might be using a less compressible format in exchange for a faster decompression time and/or assets are duplicated for various areas so rather than having to have the disc being read here and there, it more or less streams the data quicker if stored sequentially (hence, duplication of data).

when did they say that?

They never said it. There was a tweet about lack of dlc but it got deleted. In the end, there's DLC so the comment was just wrong and that's all there's to it.

Xbox 360/PS3 require 7GB for installation, and Xbox One/PS4 require the whole memory to be installed. I'm pretty sure Wii U doesn't require an install. There were at least a couple ports that required installation on 7th gen, but not Wii U. Batman Arkham Asylum and CoD Ghosts are the ones I can name right off the top of my head, so I figure Watch Dogs doesn't need the installation onto HDD, either, especially since the installation space was around the same amount. All it means is that Wii U is reading all data from the disc, while every other machine requires data to be stored on the internal memory.
