I've got the new update, but I noticed the promised "standby mode" is totally not there at all. When I power off on the face or from the pad it just turns off; similarly when auto-power off is enabled it will happily shutdown mid-download. Lame.
Games do load faster, though as others have reported some game icons take a couple of seconds to appear when switching back to the main menu.

For now it will only download what is currently in progress when you turn it off. The 24/7 connection while off will most likely be in the summer update where it will download anything relevant to your account automatically.

Nope, doesn't even do that. I had four downloads queued, with the lead being Lego City. Red light as usual when I hit the power button. No amber light, hard drive turns itself off as well because the Wii U isn't there any more.
Don't know if it's just my machine or the PAL update isn't quite right, but it just ain't doing as advertised. I'll have to go back to disabling auto power-off and manually re-running downloads I guess. I suppose I could try disabling and re-enabling standby mode to see if that makes a difference.
hi everyone. well i downloaded smw this morning for £1.49 as i own it on wii vc but unfortunately since after powering down (as i was gonna play it later today) my wii u is now stuck with a red/amber flashing light and wont turn on?
Has this happened to anyone else and could it be related to me doing the system update last night? Does anyone know of a fix? Ive tried doing the usual mains reset (unplug, wait 15 secs and plug back in) but its no good. Mario U disc locked inside too and it doesnt even attempt to play it. I've emailled Nintendo so waiting for response... thanks
