On the topic of DLC, I like to look at it from the following perspective:
1. Is the initial package (game) worth the price?
2. Is there enough content to warrant a full experience?
3. Is the DLC optional in most cases?
4. Does the DLC add value to the game, hence the extra cost (if it costs extra)?
I've played games like Fire Emblem and NSMB 2 that I can say without prejudice were full experiences worth their price. Despite the "Day 1 DLC", I wasn't really mad because the DLC was optional and extra, and it adds value to the games. Nintendo's done a great job so far from not turning DLC into a microtransaction hell.
Agreed. I put in several dozen hours of playtime with NSMB 2 without ever needing the DLC. The DLC really does feel like extra content, and I don't have a problem with that.
Then you have games like Final Fantasy XIII-2 that requires $5 DLC to see the game's true ending. I really hope Nintendo doesn't go down that road (I kind of doubt they will).
Agreed. Nintendo hasn't necessarily gotten greedy with DLC thus far, they've been as reasonable with DLC as possible such as with Pikmin 3's DLC. As much as I will probably ignore the Mercedes-Benz cars in MK8, the value in this DLC is that it's free, and that it won't impact my enjoyment of the game in any particular way. Other companies, such as Square-Enix and Capcom, have definitely gotten out of hand with their ridiculous amounts of DLC, that most often either offer mundane things ($0.99 for one costume for one character? That's just a flat-out waste of money!) or vital things that should have been in the game to begin with (such as FF XIII-2's infamous DLC for the actual ending of the game, like what @BinaryFragger said).
Am I hoping for more legitimate DLC for MK8, such as more retro tracks, and stages for battle mode? Absolutely, and it's content I'd be more than willing to pay for. This DLC, while not interesting to me, I don't have to be willing to pay for it, with it being free and all, but it isn't necessarily a game-changer, so from consumers such as myself, this DLC really only helps both companies' products, which is completely fine. I fail to see any negativity in this DLC whatsoever.
Admittedly too busy to read all of the responses (sorry!), but even though Ubisoft deleted the tweet, it shows some people there have decided it would be "cool" to join the the Nintendo negativity bandwagon.
Therefore, I'm going to give them what they asked for: I'm no longer buying Watch Dogs on Wii U
Seriously, though, they announce what is essentially pulled support (or very limited support), follow that up with statements about how Nintendo gamers don't buy their "mature" games, and then mock fun, free, and intentionally silly Mercedes-Benz cars DLC in Mario Kart 8... that already has a PINK CAR WITH BLASTING SUBS, A SPORTS COUPE, A SPORT BIKE, AND A MINI FORMULA STYLE CAR.

They spoilt Fire Emblem. (It is glaringly obvious from playing the recently released GBA one). The DLC includes a pay to win option. (Which is never ok).
NSMB2 without the DLC was rubbish all the best levels are in the DLC.
NSLU was good (Like an expansion pack and available freestanding that is totally fine.)
Pikmin 3 - DLC looks ok.
Mario Golf - If they had just waited 6 months to start releasing it then I would probably have been none the wiser and I would have bought the game and the DLC as it stands I got neither.
This is bad for the same reason that naming Cat Mario after some brand of Cat food would be bad. Or putting branding on all the Bananas in Tropical Freeze. Or changing the power star in Mario to Red Bull.

Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.

In regards to FE:A sure there is pay to win dlc but you don't need it to beat the game, heck I never brought it and beat the game on lunatic+ classic mode (even if it made me borderline insane).
Something that I have been noticing is that these jabs at Nintendo are not only from third parties but from western third parties. EA, Notch and now this one.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
First off, the DLC for Fire Emblem isn't necessarily "pay to win" if there's another option to win. FEA has plenty of free maps to grind on as well.
Second, I also noticed that Japanese companies are much more respectful to Nintendo. Sony, Capcom, and Sega are friendly
Yeah, I've been using the spotpass battles to make my lower levelled characters marry for unlocking the remaining side stories. Characters like Edward and Leonardo are pretty weak (just like they are at the beginning of Radiant Dawn).
I don't have a complaint because I don't care but I do have a joke or two.
"Yeah, instead you should be like Watch_Dogs and make people think we sent a bomb." #Ubisoft
"Instead you should've released a second Mario Kart for Wii for no reason at all." #Ubisoft
"I mean, cmon it looks faker than the initial graphics for Watch_Dogs" #Ubisoft
"This will be a good idea when we release Beyond Good and Evil 2, AKA NEVER" #Ubisoft
I don't see the tweet as being negative at all towards Nintendo. It's just an opinion, and a legit one. If anything, it's very respectful for Nintendo and promotes Nintendo's game. A good tweet.
My only complaint about the new karts will be if character decals don't appear on them - they're on all the other karts at a minimum, so why not these?

They have the logos on them at least the later revealed ones as well as color changes for characters like wario.
Everything can change, but I'm never changing who I am
