So I went to go pre-order Twilight Princess HD at EBgames today in Canada, and when I asked how much it would cost (Expecting about $70) and to my surprise the cashier said it would come to $100 before taxes. what?? I said forget about it and left.
A fair price for remasters should typically cost around $40 in my opinion. They are games that have already been widely available for some time and can already be picked up at the store for cheap. All they have done is included some HD visuals. Add in the amiibo for 15.99 plus tax you're looking at $20. So $20+$40=$60. Ok that sounds right.
The US has the bundle priced at its value ($60 USD). Thats fine. Now I know the Canadian dollar hasn't been doing well lately and I understand that things end up costing more here, but $40 MORE? That doesn't add up. Even with conversion you're looking at $80 CAD. Where the heck are they getting the extra $20 from? I'm better off buying it from the states then I am here.
The price may well be lowered in the coming months, some 2015 Wii U releases were priced higher when they first appeared as pre-orders, but it dropped to slightly more decent prices closer to release.
No chance of 40 canadian dollars though, but 55-60 might well be possible.
You should move over to the UK, literally every Wii U game costs less than a bag of Mccoys salt and vinegar crisps. Maybe not literally but still cheap nevertheless, I only think that Yoshi's Wooly World and Xenoblade came close to £40 day one, which is still £10 cheaper than the AAA games over here. All the others were £30 or less, and 3DS games are priced the same, with Chibi Robo taking like a week to go down to £10, so a completely different scenario over here. I think it'll be just down to the economy of the different countries, I heard that Battlefront was like nearly $150 in Canada for the game + season pass which is absolutely ridiculous.
@TheLastLugia: Ouch, that's a strong justification for region locking, unfortunately. Otherwise, pricing decisions in one country will easily overwhelm others. We might all be ordering from Amazon UK.
Wow, I just checked too. I really hope the price goes down for Canada... I have a Japanese Wii U and I've been getting more games on it due to the poor Canadian dollar (even with the conversion rates it is usually cheaper to get the Japanese version) if it is $100 at launch and the wolf amiibo is available separately then I may just download the Japanese version.

The cost of games in Canada are generally expensive now due to our economy hitting a recession. New games for PS4/Xbox One and Wii U were $59.99 just 2 years ago and around $39.99 for a new 3DS game. Fast forward a few years the general price for home console games is around 70 to 80 bucks without tax and 50 bucks for a portable game. Not a fun time to be a Canadian gamer in terms of price.
