Topic: Turn off gamepad?

I'm playing Skylanders on Wii U using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. Is there any way to turn off the Gamepad without the whole system going off? I can't imagine they want you to just let it set and run the battery down...

Is there anything special about Giants on the WiiU. Just curious.

Other than looking amazing on the Wii U? check out the reviews, NintendoWorldReport.com gave it a 9.5 and so far it deserves it.

If you push the Home button during the game, click on "Controller Settings", and there's a button that says "Display Off." Took a little searching, but yeah I figured there had to be a way.

the "display off" option helps but it appears that the Wii U is still streaming to the gamepad because the battery still runs down pretty quick. I could just let it sit on the charger all the time but I doubt that would be good for it. Nintendo definitely has some flawed ideas with this system, There isn't any point in playing a lot of the games with the gamepad, it's just annoying that I have to keep messing with it every time it turns on. I'm about to just take the battery out until I get a game that actually benefits from using the gamepad screen.

stop living in the past devices will stop charging once the battery is full.. it wont harm the gamepad if you leave it on its charging stand, besides leaving it in the charging stand would be the same as plugging the gamepad directly to the power supply

No, I'm living in the present where we shouldn't be using energy we don't need. Charging or not... it has no reason to be on when I am only using my Wii remote and if i want it partially off I still have to turn the display off every time I use the system.

I'll just store the gamepad out of range so it doesn't come on when I turn the system on. That will work until Nintendo fixes it.

Let me clear up a common misconception for past and future replies. Turning off your Gamepad's display is NOT the same as turning off your Gamepad. Turning off the display will continue to drain the Gamepad's battery life, which it doesn't have much of to begin with.

To answer your question: you can turn off the Gamepad by taking it out of range of the system until the link between the two is severed. From there you can turn off the Gamepad manually while still allowing the system to be on. You can then control the Wii U using a different controller. Personally, I have only tested this with the Wii U Controller Pro and I was able to boot up Monster Hunter Ultimate and play just fine, but at some point it will attempt to try to turn on the Gamepad again so you might want to keep it out of range.

You can also turn on your system using an alternative controller while the Gamepad batteries are dead.

It really wasn't necessary to post this in two topics, especially when this one ended back in November
