Topic: Transferred VC games to my WiiU, now what?

I followed the exact steps using a SD card. I saw the Pikmin carrying the files over to the Olimar's spaceship, then I put on my WiiU again and they dragged the files onto my WiiU.

But where are all the games that I transferred onto my WiiU? Nothing new got added, no new menus, just like it was before. I googled around a bit but couldn't find what I am looking for.

I'm almost certain that I overlooked something simple. It feels odd to go to the old Wii menu everytime and start up my games from there (Most were on my SD card ofcourse, because there wasn't a lot of free space on the Wii itself). Could someone point me to the right direction? Thanks in advance people!

Yeah but that brings me back to the classic Wii menu. I want to be able to start up my classic games from the WiiU menu instead of going to the Wii menu everytime, it's annoying.

Hokori

That's how it works though

I see. But I tried downloading games from the Wii shop (The classic one) and it said I hardly had any space left. I bought the black WiiU for a reason, the tons of space, which I lacked on the normal Wii.

It still has the same amount of space as the original wii (the wii menu that is) you'd probably be ok if you added an SD card and DL the wii titles to the SD card

I bought the Wii U 32GB because of the same reason. To finally have enough space for all my Virtual Console and WiiWare games. I felt betrayed and I'm very disappointed.

The solution: Nintendo should make the 8GB/32GB memory available for the Wii Menu in an update and get rid of the same stupid limitations that plagued the Wii for many years.

The reason Many gamers, especially collectors and the biggest fans, simply don't have enough room and pages left for all the games they own, even if the SD Card is big enough you are limited to 240 channels which has no logic at all!! With all this SD Card swapping this not only hinders the enjoyment of the classic games, it also completely destroys the motivation to buy new Virtual Console and WiiWare games. With such limitations it makes no sense to amass a virtual collection of VC and WW games on Wii and Wii U!
I see people abandoning the Captain and hire over at the pirate ship if this isn't resolved quickly.

The thing is the Wii U literally has a 512MB bit of flash in it, both versions, dedicated to "WiiMode" storage. The 8GB system has an 8GB flash chip plus a 512MB one, the 32GB system has a 32GB flash chip plus a 512MB one. It's almost literally a Wii inside the Wii U. Presumably to stop a Wii software vulnerability from being able to attack Wii U functionality.

Same thing happened with GameCube backwards compatibility on the Wii. I half wished they'd let you save GameCube data onto the Wii memory.... they never did. Don't expect this to change anytime soon. Though when the Wii U VC comes along who knows, maybe they'll let us copy over Wii VC stuff to the Wii U menu. We know that can be done because they do it with Miis. Fingers crossed!

How can you feel betrayed when Nintendo had never even suggested you could save Wii data to the space reserved for Wii U data?

They never suggested we wouldn't be able. We had to pay 350€ and find out for ourselves on launch!

We always wanted a better Wii, an upgraded Wii, hence the name Wii U, but we got a different console instead (that could have any other name), with a pretty worthless old Wii inside (worthless at least for people who already have a Wii).

I don't see how being pretty much identical to the original Wii makes it "worthless". More like you (well most of us) were expecting it to be more than just a Wii inside the Wii U. Then we got a Wii inside the Wii U.......... now people are complaining that the Wii U has proper backwards compatibility and not enhanced backwards compatibility.

1. Once you downloaded 240 games/channels, there is no place for more games/channels on the SD Card, even though you approximately have only used 4GB of your 32GB SD Card, and there's still 28GB left on it THAT CANNOT BE USED!! Instead you need to buy another SD Card and switch em around if you want to have more than 240 games. See it from the point of a collector, or from the point of a really big Nintendo fan: It's inconvenient having to switch around SD Cards, even when you put all VC games on one card and all WiiWare games on the other. Fact is, there wouldn't be a problem for Nintendo to update the SD Card Menu and add another 240 free channels (or get rid of the stupid limit at all).

2. I'm repeating myself, but maybe you haven't read me in the other thread: If you have more than 240 download games, and 162 retail games on top of that, your games will generate SAVE DATA that is much bigger than the 512MB of the flash memory inside the Wii and the Wii U Wii Mode. Of course I sent all my download games and channels to SD Card to have as much room as possible available for save data, because your save data can't be accessed from SD Card. So every time I start up a game, I need to put the right SD Card in, go to the data menu, search for ages to find the right save data, then copy it over to the system. And I need to do it for just so many games. Example, Super Mario Galaxy 1. Beat it 100%, moved the file over to SD Card, my little cousin comes, wants to play, the Wii automatically generates new data for this game because the "real" data is on SD Card, so I need to delete the new save data, search for the old file in my 400+ games save files, copy it over, start the game again, let my cousin play. And after he's done, I need to update the data again, delete the old one from SD Card, copy over the new one from the Wii memory to the SD Card just in case he comes again in a few months and wants to play again: IT IS A NIGHTMARE, but you will probably only understand if you had that many games yourself.
It leads me to not caring about my collection anymore. I still wanted to get quite a pack of Wii games: Project Zero 2, Inazuma Eleven Strikers, Ivy the Kiwi, the PokéPark games, the Dragon Ball games, the One Piece games, Klonoa, A Boy and His Blob, Tatsunoko vs Capcom,... all these good games I missed to have in my collection. But with no enhancements on the horizon, not even on the Wii U, how could I enjoy these games when I always have the hassle of swapping saves everytime before I can even boot up a game. I already deleted some 100% completed games accidentally because I didn't know anymore if it was a new file or my old 100% file. It's all this double checking and time wasting that gets on my nerves.

I'm sure when you're up to the point where you need 10 minutes of preparation before you can even play a game on your Wii, you will come to understand!

The feeling of betrayal comes from the fact that Wii / Wii Mode needs the 8GB/32GB, and not the Wii U! The Wii U is compatible with USB hard drives, so it doesn't need the space at all!! Nintendo is aware of this problem - for years - and it seems they won't do anything about it. I want to know what Nintendo is thinking, but honestly they suggest only one thing for me right now: "Why do you buy so many of our Wii games? There's no room for so many games. Stop buying Wii, Virtual Console and WiiWare games already!"

Of course, I should have informed me better before buying, but I assumed it will be just as great as the DSi-to-3DS transfer. Bummer.

How on earth does someone even manage to own 400+ games for the one console?! There is nowhere near that amount of games worth playing. (nor enough time to play them) Also, you'd have to be rich to have a collection that large!
You have a point about the annoying interface the Wii has though. I ended up using a computer to delete all the data on the SD card so the Wii would copy over all the up to date files onto the Wii U. The thing that annoys me the most though is having to redownload nearly every game I have because it didn't fit on the Wii's memory. The Wii Shop is terrible for downloading large amounts of games as you have to wait for them one by one and then scroll through the menus again every time a download finishes. I still haven't finished redownloading everything yet. I can live with going through the Wii menu to play a VC game as they would only end up clogging up the Wii U menu (which doesn't have many more icons than the Wii did.)

. Unfortunately the wii part of the wiiu acts just like what a wii would act like right down to the amount of space that the wii came with... What I think that may be possible is that it has a memory chip dedicated to just the wii menu. Maybe it's for compatibility reasons why it is the way it is...
