Why wouldn't you want to play it without the gamepad, unless your on the citidal the moa isn't really needed.

Also its missing the Levothian DLC which is fairly important to the lore wise and adds even more than the extended ending did.

I play my Wii U a fair amount and I have no feeling of a shortage and have a backlog of games to play. Thing is, when I own a game as good as a Nintendo game, I take my time going through it, add on to that the fact I have, but haven't even started playing ACIII, ACIV, DEUS EX and some VC Indie titles, I'd only be concerned if I had nothing to do but play games AND I didn't sleep or eat! LOL. that being said I can understand there isn't much of any excitement outlined at the moment for the Wii U for some people, as the only games I care about this year that I know of are X, MK and Project Cars.

Exactly..... As mentioned above, I also have a 3ds with several games I've barely played or in some cases not at all..... I haven't opened Deus Ex, FIFA 13, Mario & Sonic at Olympics.

I'll start playing more once the Super Bowl is over and then especially over the summer. With the games coming out, the ones I've barely played or haven't played at all, plus a few out there like Splinter Cell, ACIV that I could see myself buying eventually, I've got ample games to play.

I think a lot of people are misconstruing this thread to be saying "The Wii U is a bad console because it doesn't have a lot of games". The Wii U is awesome, which is why we'd all like to see it get more support. There are a decent number of well-received games on the system overall. But once you narrow those down due to your personal tastes, there aren't a that many that will be fun FOR YOU. And when you are only releasing 4 new games a month... well that's just unacceptable. It's this reason that many of us do end up purchasing two consoles for each generation, a Nintendo console for it's 1st party games, and Sony/Microsoft/PC for everything else. There's no reason why Nintendo couldn't be the only console you needed.

This.
This is what I'm saying.
A lot of you are saying "Well Those are just Shooter games! or Games that don't Interest me! so you should just get a PS4 or something with your WiiU."
There shouldn't be a reason why the WiiU shouldn't be your main console. "If I wanted Shinobi back in the day, I just got a Genesis!" Back in the day there were loads of exclusives on both Nintendo and Sega.

It's not like that anymore. The WiiU is the only system NOT getting games that should be on the System. You think games like Assassin's Creed is going to be on the system from now on? Loooking at Miiverse loads of people enjoy it! Lots of people LIKE Assassin's Creed on their WiiU and you know what? It's likely the next Assassin's Creed won't make it to Nintendo.
You all act like 3rd Party doesn't matter on Nintendo when probably in fact third party games make up 2/3s of Nintendo's overall Library.

I looked at that list of "missing" games. I'd probably buy a few of them, if they were on Wii U, but no one can exactly control what software will show up on a particular console, except the 3rd parties themselves.

RE6, for example, basically should have never happened on any system, so I can't exactly blame them for not putting it on Wii U. In otherwords, it does matter in certain cases, but I think alot of us can agree that a game like Naruto or RE6 shouldn't be on that list, yet they're there.

EDIT: Not to mention that alot of those games are last generation.

Let’s just sum this all up really fast, the Wii U has a serious (like even worse than the Gamecube or N64) problem when it comes to lacking in third-party support, it’s not cool,.........and uber Nintendo fanboys, don't deny it.

Maybe it's not the whole reason for why the Wii U is failing to make a dent in the market, but it's still a factor.

Now there are gamers out there which this is the life for them. They play more than a few games every month, each month, every year, all year. That's nuts if you ask me, but it's what they do. Buying multi consoles or saying that Wii U's library is not enough is only for people like that.

I have to disagree with you on this. I'm far from being a hardcore gamer. I probably play through one game a month and I'll typically buy about 50 games for a console over the course of its life. My current backlog is down to one game, ME3, and I will probably pick up a couple of others based on this feedback in this thread (Rayman Legends, Monster Hunter 3). But outside of those, there's only about 2-3 games on the docket for the rest of the year that interest me at all (Tropical Freeze, MK8, and probably X), and I fear there won't be too many surprises. Also, with previous consoles I usually would have sports games as fillers. Something you can just pick up a play for a while without having to be dedicated to a story. And since Nintendo and EA are in the middle of a bad breakup, that doesn't help.

Perhaps it's just more noticeable now because I tend to play more games over the winter when it's too freakin' cold and snowy in upstate NY to do stuff outside!

I usually play about an hour a night on the weekdays, and two to three hours on a weekend day. So thats about two or three games a month (pending length), needless to say, being a Wii U launch customer, I don't really have anything left thats of interest outside of the upcoming titles (DKC: TF, MK8)

It will be interesting what this year holds for sales with the Wii U..... I think it will eventually reach a critical mass to where at least some 3rd Party games will come.

Jeez, tell me about it. I can't even walk to the drugstore to buy a Playstation card, let a lone go out and do something. Most exercise I get is a 20 minute walk...

@SCAR392 Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm is actually a good series. I don't even like Naruto and I still play them. I'd gladly pick up 3 on the Wii U if I could. It's not like I have any other anime fighters to choose from. :[

Isn't that exactly what makes the gamepad a flawed concept from a marketing and development standpoint. From a marketing oone I've found that people still don't realize its a system and just think its a tablet add on usually mad they can't buy it aepertaly, or say they're going to pass it up for a iPad or a kindle.

From a development standpoint developers are dumb lazy so while they don't mind developing for smartglass or iOS/android. Its telling that the best part of maden on Wii U is a smart glass feature for Madden xbox one.

No it isn't, it's the same old chicken and egg thing as it always is. It doesn't get it because it doesn't have the sales and it doesn't get the sales because it lacks the content. The same two things were said of older systems that did end up doing well.

Early on people made a fuss about how the 3DS was poorly marketed and that people thought it was just another DS. Anecdotal evidence all over the shop from people talking about confused parents they saw in shops, probably still the case. Probably true of the XBOne in pockets although nobody is going to make a big deal about that while there's hype and sales to make them happy. These names are very confusing to someone who isn't well read on it, I know because my first glance at a phone is just as bad as some people are with consoles. And I'm a tech-head.

Same with the developer excuses. You'll see time and time again that developers will change their tune very quickly if a platform starts selling. They just don't want to flat out say that they don't think they'll make enough of a profit to port it to that console so they come up with these excuses. The Wii U is nowhere near as tricky as the Wii was especially while the PS3 and 360 are the consoles people are still porting from. Architecturally the Wii U is a lot more like the 360 than the XBOne is right down to the number of cores. How is it hard to port from one 3 core PPC machine to another 3 core PPC machine when they're more than happy to port to a quad core x86-64 machine? It even has what is effectively the same controller now.

Hint: it isn't harder, they just don't see as many sales in it

I understand. I generally see those types of games as junk, but not based on any assumption. I'll definitely buy Guilty Gear XXX or whatever it's called. That game looks pretty good, IMO.

You can't blame them for not wanting to port. Look at a couple of recent popular games. (And yes this is vgchartz data, so don't lambaste me - it's not the exact figures that matter) COD Ghosts has sold ~9 million copies on X360/X1 and another ~9M on PS3/PS4 for a total of ~18M in sales. The same game has sold only 110k on the Wii U.

Same type of story with AC4 Black Flag. Roughly ~6 million on the Sony and Microsoft consoles combined, ~110k on Wii U. And don't even get me started on GTA V. That juggernaut has sold like 30 million copies on the PS3 and X360 and not a single person has gone out and purchased the game for the Wii U, not one sale. Ridiculous.

Pretty much that. The only way to break it is if somebody gives in first .

skywake

@Howard24U
Probably because there is no GTAV on Wii U so I'm not sure what you expected to see. I hope you were being sarcastic there. Also those scales, while significant and a reason why a dev wouldn't port to Wii U, are skewed against the Wii U because of the install base and the type of content people purchase for various platforms.

You can't expect a game to sell 10mill units on a console that only has an install base of just over 5mill. If GTA was on the Wii U the best they could have hope for is something around 2mill. 3mill would give it an attach rate that was higher than it is on 360 and PS3. That's probably why they haven't bothered.

@skywake
Yes, I was very much joking about the GTA piece.

I also understand that it's not fair to compare sales on an 80M install base to 5M. But still, if I were Ubisoft, I've now spent money to port two Assassin's Creed games to the Wii U and sold around 300k total units. That would leave a bad taste in my mouth and I would probably cut my losses.

Howard24U

skywake

The metric they'd probably care about more is the attach rate. And when you look at that for Assassin's Creed 4 you'll see:

  • 28% of PS4 owners
  • 18% of XBOne owners
  • 3% of PS3 owners
  • 2% of Wii U owners
  • 2% of 360 owners

So if you take out the next-gen hype because there isn't much else for those systems yet then Assassin's Creed is doing about what you'd expect. Then there's the fact that Rayman Legends sold just as well on the Wii U as it did on other platforms despite the low install base. If the Wii U can stay within the range of the PS4 and XBOne it wouldn't be that surprising if the next Assassin's Creed did just as well on PS4, XBOne and Wii U.

I think the main reason why some of these games aren't doing as well on the Wii U is because of how poorly they've been made. CoD was not only bad but was probably worst on the Wii U. Assassin's Creed is more about the story and so it sells at about the same attach rate on established consoles. Oh and speaking of Ubisoft, does anyone really think that ZombiU would have even rated a mention if it was multiplatform?

To be honest I think of ZlmbiU would have been multiplatform it most likely either wouldn't be a retail game or it would have been a lot different than what we got after reciving a delay.
