Topic: To Transfer or Not to Transfer: My Wii U Dilemma

Well if you dont have a Gamecube than thats not a bad idea however as far as VC game goes it depends if you want to use GC controllers on the VC games. Some people including myself like the way the N64 games handle with a GC controller plus I just love my Wavebird. For others it doesn't matter. If your one of those well than you are going to want to keep your VC games on the Wii because the Wii U wont support GC controllers of any kind. Yeah I am sure there are adapters out there but I am not sure how much they cost and how good they are.

But than again in the end its what you are all comfortable with.

Meh. I would just transfer. I did it on day one, with no questions asked. The only problem many have is no GCN controllers, not actually missing the games, but I was able to get used to the classic controller pro pretty fast for Smash Bros Brawl.
It's just one more console you don't really need anymore, besides literally for GCN BC.

Has someone regretted doing the transfer? I really don't know if I should do it, I don't like the idea of having a Wii just as a GameCube player... but I like the idea of having all my content on one console, even if I have to go to Wii mode to access it.

I also didn't like the idea of not been able to play N64 games with GC controller, but then I found there are some adapters that solve the problem.

But now I'm reading about problems with Nes and N64 emulation being awful on the WiiU, so if I end doing the transfer I may have to keep my Nes and N64 on Wii mode and only transfer Snes games, and this sucks!

So what do you guys recommend me to do based on your experience, do you regret it or not and why?

And another question, before doing the transfer can I save my save files on another SD card, and then use this save files to keep playing Wii games on my Wii without losing progress?

I still have yet to transfer my Wii VC games to the Wii U. For one thing I find that NES games don't run right on the Wii U mainly the sound.

@Tasuki:

Yes, that's what I've been reading, although it's a surprise it isn't a big deal to most people. I also read that Wii VC emulation is a bit dark, but testing it on my Wii I don't see that problem, on my TV it looks perfectly fine. I think that I'll have to check it myself and compare between the two.
Thanks for your comments!

@soma: Yeah the sound is a big deal for me especially when I have sound problems like in Legend of Zelda, where the sound goes in and out every 30 seconds or so major game breaker.

It seems to me like the VC was a rushed idea for the Wii U after how well it was handled on the Wii I thought for sure it would be handled just as good or even better. Guess Nintendo just doesn't care.

I guess I should have pointed out that the disc drive on my Wii is dead. I've thought about sending it in for repairs, but I'm unsure if I want to spend the money, at least, not at this point anyway.

It would probably be cheaper to fix it yourself than send it to Nintendo. When my Wii's drive died, I bought a replacement from Amazon (UK) for less then £25. It took about 30 minutes to swap the drives (you need Tri-wing screwdrivers). Obviously any warranty you have will be void upon opening the console, but if you have an old system it's certainly worth doing at that price.

As for the system transfer, I have yet to do it. I'm not sure why; think I just prefer to keep all my Wii VC games on that console for the time being.

I just recently bought my Wii U so haven't transferred yet.. I think I'll just keep it as a separate machine, tho I do have a high score of 2900 on Wii Bowling (100 pin)!

I bought the Wii U for the improved graphics/games but, honestly, find the original Wii a bit more convenient/easier to use.

Little by little I'm starting to love more the WiiU. Just an amazing system! I already knew of Off-TV gameplay, but I just found I could play Wii mode entirely on the Gamepad!!!! (Using it as a mini-TV). I don't know why but that blew my mind lol.

I also think Wii games look a bit better on the WiiU, probably because of the HDMI cable. Maybe is just my imagination but I swear the image looks a bit brighter which make some small details stand out. Just little details, not much of a difference, but I like it better. Maybe is just my imagination, I don't know.
The sound definitely is louder because when I'm comparing both systems I keep turning the volume down.

The Nes WiiU VC was not as bad as I thought, I tested it with Castlevania, and it doesn't look dark at all with the settings I have for gaming. There's definitely color differences with the Wii version, but it also looks less pixelated and I liked it more than I expected.

I really don't like the idea of moving all my stuff, even save files, and having the Wii empty. But the sad truth is that not all VC games on Wii will make it to WiiU, and I rather have all my games on one system (even if on emulation mode) than having them separately. And with my games linked to my account I hope in the future will be available on NX or another console.

The GameCube controller problem seems to be easily fixed buying an adapter, so the only reason I prefer the Wii would be easier portability to travel on Holidays.

Still undecided but I'm convincing myself that doing the transfer is the best option
Maybe I can hack my Wii to keep my stuff too, although I never liked doing those things

I have two questions, I hope someone can help.

1. When I transfer from my Wii to Wii U, do the Miis on Mii Plaza move to the Mii Plaza on Wii Mode? And if they do, do they appear in my Wii games just like on the original Wii?

2. I have an SD card of 1GB currently on my Wii, but for the transfer the instructions say I need to have at least 512MB free, which I don't have. So can I safely delete some games to make space and I'll be able to download them later? Or they need to be kept on the SD while doing the transfer?

Thanks!

This is an old thread.....

Yes your Miis will move.

Yes if you delete the games the licenses will still be transferred and be able to be redownloaded.

Honestly I did the transfer and would recommend it. I still have my old wii with all its stuff and I never use it. I did a NAND backup with homebrew before I did my transfer and was able to fully restore my wii after the transfer. Not sure if I am even supposed to mention such things around here but it is an option.

@blaisedinsd:

Thanks for answering! Good to know about the Miis, although I read the Mii Parade is lost... I never used it and I don't even know if all those Miis appeared on my games, but it was kinda fun looking them run lol.

Anyway, thanks for the info, just one more question I haven't found an answer anywhere. What happens with games that aren't available anymore on the Wii Shop, like TMNT or Street Fighter 2. If I have them on the SD card, I will have the license but as they doesn't appear anymore do they magically appear or there's no way to download again?
The only option would be to have them on the Wii system memory?
