I love my Wii U but when I see something like this, it just hurts my soul. Sony knows how to market their games. Wow! When will we ever see another Street Fighter game on a Nintendo console? =(

The difference is that Sony is willing to take on the brunt of marketing costs for 3rd parties. Nintendo rarely does.

TBH this is one of the few games headed to PC that I kinda wish would also come to Wii U. Not that I'm a huge fan of fighting games but more because fighting games on PC are a kinda sad experience. That said, the whole "this is how Nintendo should to marketing" thing? Well for a start this is a Capcom promo not a Sony promo so it's not really analogous. Secondly, how short term is your memory? http://youtu.be/JmCVzjGVFy4

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

@Skywake, first it's doesn't matter whether it's Sony or Capcom, the point the is the same. Second the the Smash Bros video doesn't have the same emotional impact present in the SFV teaser.

"Street Fighter ..." "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by capcom."

I thought this was going to gain a mention. Sony: "Nows the time to buy" Nintendo: "The time is now"

"They played us like a damn fiddle!" - MGS5
"Finish your mission, prove your loyalty." - MGS3
"We could take a s*** on you from such a height, you'd think God himself has crapped on you!" - GTA: SA

For you, maybe. You have to keep in mind that some people enjoy Mega Man more than Street Fighter.

I saw the OP trailer before it was removed. It was "this is what we do", lots of non-gameplay, footage of fighters, footage of old arcade consoles, footage of people drawing characters on papers, etc.

It would probably be nice if I'd be around 15, but I am not. To me, these kind of teasers are like the E3 CG trailers without any gameplay footage: a company who want to sell a product without me looking at the actual product. The Smash reveal trailers are almost same, although in those you actually see some real gameplay footage. Personally, I prefer the E3 Treehouse approach.

Now is the time to buy a PS3, er, PS4

About SFV, I hope the inevitable second iteration is not an exclusive, kinda like RE4 when it was first released.

And Nintendo made Bayonetta 2 possible. It may not have mass appeal, but it is one of the best games I have played this year.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

I thought "Settle it in Smash" was a brilliant campaign. But of course it's cool to pretend that marketing doesn't exist for the Wii U. I'm not sure why though

@SpookyMeths, I definitely prefer Mega Man over Street Fighter. Here's the reality, when it comes to Nintendo, I'm a HUGE fan, and I have a huge collection of Nintendo games spanning multiple systems. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I'm finding PS4 and in some cases Xbone commercials appeal to me more. I think it's just the overall tone of the commercial. Nintendo could have done something really special with Bayonetta 2 and I think that was a missed opportunity. Lack of 3rd party support stings a bit to. I didn't care much at first but now it's really becoming a problem for me.

For the record thought, I'll continue buying whatever console Nintendo throws at me. I just love their first party games way to much to give that up. I can't wait for Zelda and Xenoblade. Some good times ahead.

@WaLzgi I'm sorry WaLzgi but since Wii U launch I haven't seen ONE decent commercial focusing on the system. I remember those really corny, horrible, family oriented commercials but wow, those were awful! To really illustrate the issue, there are STILL people I know who don't even know the Wii U exists. Seriously. That's a problem.

You'll notice that there is a direct relationship between when Nintendo is successful and when they have good console ads.

I think I saw an ad for that on NintendoLife. Other than that, I don't remember any ads for "Settle it in Smash".
EDIT: So I googled "Settle it in Smash" and got the "Training Day" ad. Sorry, but that PS4 12 days of Christmas ad is better.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Topic is so funny. Sony is hosting a 2 day event in Las Vegas this weekend complete w/ a live stream tomorrow afternoon, and Nintnedo's marketing problem is 1 Capcom trailer for Street Fighter?

I do think Nintneod did a good job w/ "settleitinsmash even if the commercials are way too corny, but at least it's a catch phrase. Too bad more people probably still associate it w/ the 3DS rather than Wii U. Wii U really needed a SSBU bundle w/ game, adapter and 1 or 2 Gamecube inspired controllers, then we actually COULD settle it in smash rather than just tweet about it.

And in honor of our host, Beyond: 2 Souls really made me want an Akira game. One of the greatest movies ever made yet I'm unaware of any AAA title associated w/ it. I'll take an epic Akira game over just about anything. I don't even need to be Tetsuo, I'd settle for just playing as Kaneda. Would be a marketing coup for Wii U.

@rjejr It's a shame they failed with the most important part of the bundle, namely the GC adapter. I'm pretty sure the stock issues for that over the past 2 weeks (and continuing) is probably one of the worst stock situations Nintendo's been involved in for a long while.

Here's my rather long reply from this morning concerning the adapter. :Short version - I agree w/ you. But I think it's more part of a pattern - they coudln't keep the Wii stockd on store shelves for almost 2 years after launch, then they manufacture the Wii U Basic which nobody wants, then they under manufacturer the most in demand device of the holiday. But my Target did get 2 new Wii Minis boxes in stock, I can tell they were new, no dust. The last 2 disappeared a couple of weeks ago.

Well they flooded the market w/ $299 White Basic Wii U so they lost a ton of money on that, but these only cost $20, which probably means $5 each to manufacture, and they help to sell a $60 SSBU game, and $30 controllers. I say flood the market w/ these cheap gadgets so they can be displayed in stores and people see them and want them, the controllers, the game, and the amiibo. Holding back on 1 cheap adapter is giving them a lot of bad coverage. Even if they made 1 million of these and didn't sell them all at full retail price that small cost would have been worth it to push everything that goes along w/ it.

Of all the things to worry about losing money on, a cheap adapter that supports an entire gaming experience was the wrong thing.

I've seen the campaign for Smash about three of four times on TV and I don't even watch that much TV. I think people see what they want to see sometimes.

if nintendo want to sell more (especially for wii u) they should remove region lock and redesign the console with 20nm cpu to cut the production cost. wii u still have the chance with awesome first party lineup, and if the console sell well the third party will make games for it. Region lock is limiting the nintendo right now.

Nintendo fan.
Owned: NES, Megadrive, SNES, PS1, Dreamcast, PS2, DS, 3DS, and PC. Planned to buy: redesigned Wii U, New 3DS and maybe redesigned XBONE/PS4
