The guys on the BitBlock YouTube channel have created a video on what they thought Animal Crossing on the Wii U (a REAL AC, not some crappy party game could have looked like. I love some of the ideas in here. They have clearly spent a lot of time on it. Thoughts?

And there I go thinking it would've looked exactly like Amiibo Festival.. Without the festival thing.

Yeah I thought probably the only good thing about amiibo Festival was the artstyle, though it's harder for an Animal Crossing game to look bad than it is for most other games, even the DS game had a lot of charm and expression from the characters even thought the resolution was low. Josh talks of a lot of great new ideas that really could work in an Animal Crossing game, I particularly like the hot air ballon one, seems like a perfect fit for the series. Shame Nintendo only care about amiibo, Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and anime, eh? Or at least that's what he'd say.

I'd like to play devil's advocate for a sec here and say despite all of his hard work on this and his great ideas I think that Animal Crossing just belongs on a handheld. The original and City Folk just felt restricted by having to play in the same place all the time in front of a big screen, wheras just like Pokemon, Monster Hunter and a few other Nintendo franchises it's great to pick up and play New Leaf whenever and wherever I am. Still if a Wii U Animal Crossing did happen they could do a lot worse than this.

I thought those ideas were pretty good (especially the tool box.). Also, the presentation in that video was really well done!

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

@shaneoh: I very much doubt it now, tbh, unless they do a cross release with the NX. It's too late for one now seeing as all signs are pointing to a Christmas 2016 release for the NX.

Although, it appears that they may have some sort of AC engine on the Wii U from amiibo Festival...

@NintendoFan990: What signs? A bunch of rumors. Some potentially unrelated documents that we all assumed were related? Hell, even looking at the releases, next year looks to be no less eventful than this year. And even then, have you seen how quickly Nintendo has managed to pull games out of the ether? I mean, despite the leaks and potential hints from Nintendo themselves, TPHD was only announced with about 3 months between, MM3D with only 2. Sure those are remakes, but that doesn't mean they can't keep a full new game under their hat the same way. My point is that at this point, I see little substantial evidence to imply any particular year for release. (Though we can all agree, I think, that my original guess/hopes for a 2019 release are well beyond the realm of likely possibilities.)

@shaneoh: Ah, yes. How could I forget. The N-cube in the tea leaves signifies a new Nintendo console coming in the next year.

It definitely looks much more faithful to the point behind the Animal Crossing franchise, and the new ideas are neat, but it's lacking that one definitive new feature that'd distinguish it from previous entries - which is where I'd think along the lines of being able to shoot photos (yes... including selfies), and being able to send them to friends.
Depending on who or what a certain villager likes, you could give them a framed photo of a butterfly, another villager, or the sunset as a present. Maybe even expand it to allow sneaking after Redd, who in turn hides photos of art somewhere, which, once you find them, help distinguish originals from his fakes. And other things could be connected with photos, as well (like winner photos being on a trophy you won from a contest), but that's just a quick idea.

@UGXwolf: It's just pretty obvious, regardless of rumours. Nintendo even confirmed the NX at E3 and I'm pretty sure it's confirmed as a console, although I'll have to check my sources. If they are going to show it off in 2016, like they said in E3, then it's pretty likely that they'll release it in 2016, like Microsoft did with the Xbone and Sony did with the PS4. The Wii U is failing and it's clear that Nintendo is trying to release it's next console as soon as possible along with some good launch titles.

The games for Wii U next year aren't looking any good anyway. Pokken Tournament is basically a port, FE X SMT and Star Fox Zero arent' AAA titles. The only worthy title is Zelda U, which has been in development for years.

@NintendoFan990 You do realize that AAA is a measure of a game's development budget and not its popularity, so yeah SMTxFE is AAA. Why doesn't anyone know this?! >_<

Watching this as a person that spent maybe around 500 hours in Wild World makes me wish I could smack some sense into Nintendo. All of the new ideas sounds prefect for an Animal Crossing game especially the hot air balloon and tool box idea. I'll love if you can do a mini-game once per day if you have the slingshot in the hot air balloon that allows you to shot down balloon presents and collect them once you're done. Heck, maybe you can travel to new regions once per day with the hot air balloon to get even more exotic items, flowers, cloths, and furniture maybe post ads around the town to get more people to move into your own personal town. And since we're talking about adding more villagers, how about you being able to buy more land too? I can go on and all about what Nintendo can do with the new Animal Crossing.

Reggie dropped the name of the NX. They said there'd be more info on it, next year, but these were both given even before E3. Notice how we're still using a code name? And yeah, Sony and Microsoft unveiled their consoles the same year they launched, but when has Nintendo ever done that? We at least knew the main concept of each system the year before it came out, if we didn't know exactly what it looked like and have a decent idea of what the launch library might primarily consist of. Hell, didn't they announce Smash 4 two years before the Wii U even came out? Or maybe it was one.

People seem to keep missing this. Iwata only even MENTIONED the NX because he wanted to assure people that mobile was not Nintendo's future, but a branching out. He brought it up to avoid rumors of Nintendo quitting the core gaming audience popping up. Remember that we know very, very, VERY little about this system.

Furthermore, don't forget that SEGA made that exact same mistake that you think Nintendo are about to repeat. They had a console that wasn't doing so hot after a console that was a big success and as a result, they rushed to put the next thing out on the shelves. I'm not saying that Nintendo doing the same thing will end the same way, but that it wasn't a good idea when SEGA did it, so why would it be a good idea for Nintendo.

What Nintendo needs right now isn't to rush off to try and appease a new audience. They need to be cautious. They need all eyes on them when their next console drops and they need it to be clear it's a new system and well-advertised what it can and will do. If they put it out next year when the PS4's major releases are in full swing, no one is really gonna care unless they have some absolutely amazing new EXCLUSIVE games you can't find anywhere else and can't afford to pass up. No, Zelda U wouldn't count (though it'd make a nice argument.) I don't see anything like that being pulled out of nowhere, announced, and released all within one year.

As for the releases you so casually brushed off, how many major AAA Nintendo releases did we see in 2014? Mario Kart 8 and Smash were the big one. We also saw Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors hit the system. And 2015? Splatoon and Super Mario Maker. I think I'm noticing a pattern, here, as we also got Devil's Third, this year. And what do we know we're getting in 2016? Pokken Tournament, which is going to be a game you can't really get at home without a Wii U, so the argument that it's a port doesn't really hurt it, SMTXFE, which while a tad niche is still a AAA game, Star Fox Zero, which many fans have been looking forward to, and Zelda U, which is the big year-ender, most likely and probably Nintendo's focus at E3.

Did you notice something about the 2016 games? Three of those are in Spring. No, that doesn't mean the releases are thinning out. Notice how around six months ago, Spring of 2016 looked completely barren and now it doesn't? I'm willing to bet the same will happen to Fall/Winter 2016. I just see no real reason to believe the NX will drop next year.

But let's talk about that. What would happen if the NX launches next year. Well, going straight from Wii U to NX development, I'm guessing the flow of first party games really won't change all that much. Why would it? Nintendo isn't gonna take a break to stockpile games for launch. They'd just be going for it. We'd likely see the same pattern with games being pushed to the beginning and end of the year. The only thing that might change is third party content, but that's very questionable, at this point.

But how will Wii U owners feel? I don't know about other people, but honestly, the idea that Zelda U could end up being a joint release kinda irks me. I feel like I'd be getting the short end of the stick because I bought the Wii U thinking it'd get at least one Zelda game I couldn't play anywhere else. I guess in a sense, that's silly because of backwards compatibility being essentially the same, but it just makes me wonder, because I and I'm sure plenty of other Wii U owners felt like we were promised a Zelda game for buying a Wii U (which we'd have to buy, of course, but that isn't the point) and it feels like if we could've just said "screw it, I'll wait for the next console," then our investment wasn't truly appreciated.

Yes, I know that's ridiculous. I've gotten great value out of my console. Splatoon and Smash and Mario Kart and really most of my Wii U library have given me some very good times, but rationalizing that doesn't do anything for that sense of loss that comes when you realize that one of the games you bought the system for isn't going to be a game for that system, but a port for that system from the new one. (Basically, I hate people calling Twilight Princess a Wii game and I'd hate people calling Zelda U an NX game. It just bugs me. I can accept that one's just me.)

I think what I'm rambling on about is that trying to cut the Wii U's lifespan short is a bad idea because if Nintendo manages to lose even MORE loyal customers out of butthurt for the system not lasting as long as expected, they're gonna find the next generation comes no easier.

On another note, has everyone tried AC:Amiibo Festival and decided collectively that it's terrible? Because quite honestly, I'm looking forward to it as a welcome alternative to Mario Party 10.

Nah, like Federation Force people are saying it's a terrible game without having tried it. Like children not eating a food they've never tasted because they don't like it.

All of this talk about the NX has people thinking that no more games are coming out on the Wii U. But remember that people were saying that back at E3 and we're getting Twilight Princess HD. So I think anyone who is ruling things out at this point is foolish. And of all the unannounced games that could still come out on the Wii U Animal Crossing is probably the highest on the list.

Do you really think that they've spent as much money on that as Zelda U?
