It actually looks a lot better close up. Very slick I like it alot. Going to be it horizontal because that's how it looks to be designed, and you can rest the Controller right on top. Seems to use the same AV style cord... think I will be able to use my composite cables from out of the box until I can get an HDMI cable?

That looks very nice. Not as big as I thought it was which is a plus. Looks very sleek and like a natural progression of the Wii. Good job Nintendo!

It looks a lot sleeker compared to the Wii and it looks... so nice. However, there is no Ethernet port... so I'm guessing wireless is still the best way to go as it seems we'll still need a USB adapter to get an ethernet port. :/

Also, it's nice they're keeping the sensor bar port so I'm guessing they're wanting you to keep your Wii... maybe? Unless they're packagaing a new (and maybe improved?) sensor bar with the console.

I'll say what I said about the Wii. It looks exactly like an external CD-rewriter from the mid-1990s when it's sitting horizontal. That's not a knock against it, it just completely resembles the look of those old things eerily well (especially now with those rounded edges).

There's still a whole year before the release and the final model is ready for consumers, so there could well be an ehternet port inbuilt at some point. Also, I read somewhere that this is in the final design area, but this is not the FINAL model, meaning there could be improvements to be made.

Also, there is speculation running around that the Wii U console is currently just a shell and that they haven't put in all the proper hardware giving reason to believe that, that is why they didn't show it off at E3. Who knows? The console might just be bigger and better next year, they still have a whole year to mess around with it don't forget.

Dude, just use the USB-Ethernet adapter for Wii if you have one already. They're kinda cheap, so if you don't have one, get one for $20. Amazon is your best bet for good deals below the 20 mark.

Whenever I see this., I always think of it being a Wii if a Wii was a pillow for some reason

"A few important notes:

1)There is an error in the video... I thought that the Wii U could be stood vertically, but the pieces of plastic I describe in the video as feet are not feet. The Wii U will not stand, not on its own. It needs to lie down.

2) You can see four USB ports for this system and an SD Card slot. You won't see an Ethernet jack, suggesting that, like the Wii, this Nintendo console is made to go online strictly via Wi-Fi. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime cautioned me not to conclude that. Sounds like this design, while apparently final, is still open to some tweaks....."

In the link to that video read the aticle and you will see that ^

Wii Remotes need sensor bar so there must be a place for sensor bar. But I can't think of a way to improve it as it's just a thing that shows two lights so Mote recognizes it and then shows it on screen. I hate when it's too sunny day and I have to put curtains in front of my window so Wiimote won't go mad as there's too many light sources.

It's its, not it's.

It looks nice but I can't believe it will no longer support backwards compatibility with the Gamecube...

USB ports on the front. That's good news to me.

It looks damn good...

They totally will, Nintendo has been really good with backward compatibility, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw Gameboy Advance games on 3DS soon. As for the console design, I like it, it really looks like a more appealing, sleeker Wii.

I'm very curious about the GCN controller adapter-thing that's being considered.

To me, the GCN controller is the official SUPER SMASH BROS. pad just as the Arcade sticks and Fightpads are for SSFIV, Vs. etc.

I would so love it if they allowed a USB-GCN connecter to be used on the console- or even make a wireless GCN-styled controller to compliment the new Smash Bros. game.

I really don't like using the CC[Pro] for Smash Bros. It just isn't right to me. Having a wide array of control options would be so welcome. Then again, since Smash Bros. is coming to the 3DS, it'd be good practice on the go with the slide pad as it's on the WiiU Tablet- so...

And I'd hope I can charge the WiiU tablet via USB. The ports on the front seem to hint that. Kinda.

I dont know why everyone is surprised about it not having the Gamecube support. Honestly if you are that worried about it just keep your Wii or pick up a Gamecube before the Wii U is released. Gamecubes are rather cheap now.

Haha, I'll NEVER sell my Wii. Or any of my consoles- no matter what (unless I'm in dire need of money for something very very important unrelated to video games).

Hide your Wii, hide your Wii controllers and accesories, cuz Gamestop will be tryna take it all with tacky deals.

I like the rounder look. I don't like the prolonged hide. I mean, it's quite longer then the current Wii.

But all in all, I wonder how such a relative small machine can house hardware that is perhaps 50% stronger then a PS3. But I guess it will work!
