Don't worry, just enjoy the good games. Then, in 15 years time when everyone is complaining about the latest Nintendo console being for casuals or being too popular with teens, sit back and laugh at all the internet liars claiming they had a Wii U with their Gamecube, Saturn and Dreamcast.
.

I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

The only console I don't own out of those is the Saturn.

Not worried, I will find ways to game regardless. I just don't see Nintendo surviving on retail shelves with droughts like this. All it takes is one or more of their announced projects falling behind and you get another 2-3 months with no retail release again.

I still believe they need to do what i said when i first purchased the console, at least 12 retail titles a year (first or second party) and at least 4-6 eShop titles from Nintendo (can be a retail release compilation at the end of the year or bi-annually). I would tap into the third-tier library or new IPs for the eShop and experiment. I think they also need to do something to create a Sports line that is a little deeper than Wii Sports or Mario Baseball.

Anybody here ever hear the saying "Quality over Quantity"?

But by the same token, if you starve to death because you only eat incredibly high quality food, there's a problem.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

If you want more Games get another System. After All a Nintendo System is just Secondary Inferior System to the REAL Systems at least that's what everyone has already pointed out.

Why are random Words capitalized in your Post? Also, Shovel Knight IS a Better Game than Watch Dogs. Get over it, Troll.

You can drop the gamepad and still live on, just sell the gamepad as an accessory, patch the Nintendo published titles that need to be patched (which would be minimal), pack Wii U's with pro controllers, cut the price by 50-75 dollars.........call it a day. However I think early 2014 would have been an optimal time, it's almost becoming too late.

Either way, I think the Wii U can still sell around 15 million if Nintendo supports it strongly with first and second party titles. Still need a decent AAA game every month or two though.

Nope. Patching the GamePad out would not require 'minimal' effort. Some games'd be a much less enjoyable experience without the GamePad, like WWHD and Pikmin 3. I'm all for the price going down to 249, but they have to keep the GamePad.

Wind Waker already supports the pro controller fully, it would not need to be touched once,.....Pikmin 3 also supports the pro controller already, it would just need to show some of the cut scenes on the TV, that's it.

The gamepad wouldn't be patched out, it would just phased to the role of an accessory (like Kinect), IE, no longer required but still an option.

However, playing them with a Pro Controller is still a much less enjoyable experience, like I said in my first reply. Honestly, I cannot play both of those games without the GamePad, and I think they'd lose their value if you'd have to buy an accessory just to play them.
Aside from those two, there's tons of other games that also require our rely heavily on the GamePad, as @Darknyht listed above.
Finally, I don't want Nintendo to be a hypocrite like Microsoft and drop the thing that sets their console apart from the rest. Without the GamePad, the Wii U'd be a Wii with better graphics, and a slightly better online system.

...and this is exactly the reason why Nintendo isn't going to drop the GamePad. They have seen the fall of Sega consoles, and they know very well that was because Sega carelessly dropped supporting their consoles here and there. Now, the GamePad isn't an entire console, but it isn't just a controller anymore. It's part of the console. Consumers are already unsure, or at least have been unsure, about what the Wii U is; A new console? A new controller for the Wii? An add-on for the Wii? Dropping the GamePad at the moment when people finally seem to realise what the Wii U is all about, would be even more confusing.

Why do people dismiss indie games so quickly? If it's a really good game like Shovel Knight, it deserves to be considered a "big honcho release".

I agree. It looks quite bad. Next year will be better though, 'on paper' at least..

Nintendo want 1st party software dominance on their hardware and have created this situation themselves. So yeah, they do need to ramp up 1st party efforts, 2nd party collaborations (i.e. SMT*FE & Hyrule Warriors) and 3rd party exclusives (i.e. Wonderful 101, Bayo) because the current level of output is unacceptable. What they 'do' is genuinely terrific, it's just not enough to establish a competitive ecosystem against the opposition. They have to do it all themselves, because this is the situation they created..

I think this is what they are in the process of doing, and i'm quietly confident that the Wii U will have a relatively small but excellent and 'unique' library of games by the time it's done in 2018. The wii u has 'cult classic' status written all over it...

I grow tired of this "drop the gamepad, its easy" line of logic. There is a lot more going on that people fail to consider

The Positives of Removing Gamepad:

  • Reduce the Wii U price

The Negatives of Removing Gamepad:

  • Split your Consumer base
  • Cause Dev's to change what they are making as now they must be aware of both groups
  • Anger early adopters (your loyal customers)
  • Remove all the Gamepad Functionality from a marketing standpoint as its no longer available to every system.
  • Everything now has less functionality from a base standpoint
  • Require a fairly decent System Update to support the change

Doesnt seem worth it.
