Went by the Nintendo.com website today and this is what it has up (North America):

What's New
2014-05-30 - Mario Kart 8
2014-04-22 - LEGO The Hobbit
2014-02-21 - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
2014-02-07 - The LEGO Movie Videogame
2014-01-10 - Wii Fit U
2014-01-10 - Wii Fit U with Balance Board
2013-11-22 - Super Mario 3D World
2013-11-19 - Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know

Apparently Nintendo needs to go back almost a year to find 8 titles to brag about as New Releases. That is rough. I guess you could add Wii Sports Club to that list as it released 2014-07-25, but by any measurement that is a pretty dismal situation. Metacritic couldn't even come up with 25 games for this year that had more than 7 reviews. No matter how good a console is, it cannot survive like this.

Even with their aggressive release schedule for the rest of the year going into next, it is still only a game a month. So my question is, if you were Nitnendo how would you go about correcting the problem? One rule though, please leave the abandon the Gamepad remarks out of it because that is just silly. It makes no sense to cripple or break a large portion of your current library (and arguably the most appealing parts) just to make your console more like the other two. Nintendo already has a problem with people confusing the Wii and Wii U, no need to further cause confusion by having incompatibility issues on the Wii U itself.

You can drop the gamepad and still live on, just sell the gamepad as an accessory, patch the Nintendo published titles that need to be patched (which would be minimal), pack Wii U's with pro controllers, cut the price by 50-75 dollars.........call it a day. However I think early 2014 would have been an optimal time, it's almost becoming too late.

Either way, I think the Wii U can still sell around 15 million if Nintendo supports it strongly with first and second party titles. Still need a decent AAA game every month or two though.

If there was a Wii U sale for every thread like this there wouldn't be a need for them anymore.

Don't bother. Most people here don't want to hear this stuff and will consider Digital Releases like Shovel Knight to be big honcho Releases that play with the Big Leagues like Watch Dogs.

If you want more Games get another System. After All a Nintendo System is just Secondary Inferior System to the REAL Systems at least that's what everyone has already pointed out.

@LegatoSkyheart Inferior? Dude you are threading on thin ice. Secondary, perhaps. Inferior? I don't think so.

Pretty much. I mean, there are Indie games, so whatever you want to say, the situation is well known. Nintendo isn't going to fix it, because there is nothing to fix. Their machines are now, and always have been for Nintendo games. If third party developers don't want to come along...they can't make them.

Nah, I own a PS4, but Nintendo is still my favorite software developer, nobody compares to there charm and fun factor.........but it depends, do you only buy three or four games a year? Get a Wii U, you'll love it, however, do you buy two or three games every two months or so? Do you enjoy a wide variety of genres? Get a PS4, Xbone, or gaming PC.

If there is one thing I would like to see, it would be JRPG's, dungeon crawlers (like Eye of the Beholder), and WRPG's (hey it could be done, old school Baldur's Gate), and SRPG's, like Fire Emblem, done by indie developers. However, we don't get too many. I know there are some, but most want to make horrible platformers...I'm sorry....but most of them are not that great.

Or, shooters. Everything but Galak-Z looks bad, to me. I don't like too many shooters, anyway.

So, why can't they make more RPG's...I'd love some, even if it does have pixel art. Steam has a lot of interesting games, and I know that's bad to say. A lot of these games could easily come to WiiU. I know it's extra money, and dev time, but it can't be that hard if other indie developers are doing it, too.

Liege looks really good...don't know about much else that's coming...need to do some research!

By the end of this year, I'll have 44 full retail games between Wii U and 3DS (18 Wii U 26 3DS). Gen 8 Nintendo has been my highest console tie rate ever. Lack of games is pretty much the last thing on my mind as a Nintendo owner right now.

Take it with a grain of salt since more games should be on the list and 2015 will rock.

As someone who recently got the wii u deluxe pack who normally only plays retro (NES/SNES/GB/GBC/GBA and recently GC and some wii), I am loving the wii u. I have 6 retail games + the super mario bros u/luigi u physical that came with the deluxe package (and Pikmin 3 digital for free from MK8 purchase). I want to get Wind Waker, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, and Smash Bros by the end of the year, and want kirby, yoshi, splattoon, and the zelda new releases next year. Also picked up super metroid in the VC so the next time my nephew comes he can play it on the gamepad instead of monopolizing the main tv. Did I say I'm loving the wii u? Now that I'm older, I don't have too much time for gaming, but this thing is fun.

Essentially, I would just explain this as Nintendo knowing their business. Ever since the N64, people have been coming to Nintendo consoles for one thing and it's not third party releases nor is it for other features such as multimedia. It's for Nintendo games that you literally can't get elsewhere. If you are buying a Nintendo console for any other reason besides their games, you're buying it for the wrong reason and you will be disappointed. Nintendo has always been about delivering unique gaming experiences that the rest of the industry won't make and they are absolutely excellent at it. My Wii U is not my main console, but I still frequently pull it out and play some Mariokart simply because it's a blast. I don't think they need to change anything, because innovation comes at a cost and that cost is respect among the "hardcore" gaming industry. People would rather play another generic open world adventure game or FPS than to branch out and try something new. Now as to what Nintendo needs to do about these godawful, several month long droughts, the answer is the Virtual Console. They have a nearly limitless library of games from the past that they could be using to add to the schedule. They also need to go after third party companies and get them to put their games on the VC too. Rather than announcing games only a week or so in advance, why don't they go about building hype to the rerelease of something that'll generate buzz like Majora's Mask or something? Where are the sales that keep people coming back to the eShop? I don't care what excuses they throw out about technical difficulties, if they were to put some real intent behind the VC, it'd certainly be profitable.

Nope. Patching the GamePad out would not require 'minimal' effort. Some games'd be a much less enjoyable experience without the GamePad, like WWHD and Pikmin 3. I'm all for the price going down to 249, but they have to keep the GamePad.

I have 30 retail and close to 30 digital games..... by next year at this time, i will have or at least want badly a dozen more retail, plus several other indies that come our way. while i wish we were getting at least a few more third party games, overall, i'm satisfied with the content on the system

There are eight months between now and that last release under new releases. That is a long span of time to come up with 8 titles that are retail.
