Hi everyone! I'm from Spain and i would like to know your opinion about two games are coming this year for PS4 and Wii U.

If you had to choose one of them, which would you pic: The Witcher 3 for PS4 or Xenoblade Chronicles X for Wii U?

Thanks and sorry for my english!

Xenoblade Chronicles X

I played a past Witcher game and it was so bad. The controls were very clunky and the story was terrible. I haven't played Xenoblade but I would still recommend it over The Witcher.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I've played Witcher 2 extensively, and it was nothing special. Xenoblade on the other hand was the best RPG of the last generation. I'd pick Xenoblade X without a doubt.

I never played Xenoblade and I'm a big fan of the The Witcher series, so I totally suggest you TW3!

From what I've seen of the actual The Witcher 3 gameplay I'm not that interested. Besides, the PS4 is getting far more interesting RPG's this year I'd rather get. XCX looks a lot more interesting, but I haven't played any of the earlier games in the two series, that would've been a better guideline.

Well I'm more excited for Xenoblade X as I actually own the console! The Witcher will probably be quite good too though. It looks insanely detailed. I also like the developer. They seem to have a good attitude. Their GOG site is awesome too.

The first Witcher game was just awful in every way, so it might be better to ignore it as a factor altogether.

The Witcher 2, while being MUCH better than the first one, still didn't really do much to stand out at all. But still, the gameplay was solid, the graphics were acceptable, and the content was comparably better than some western RPG's it was overshadowed by.
The Witcher 3 looks promising, but not very impressive. It seems to deliver only on what we already know of other WRPG's, so the surprise factor will likely stay at a minimum. Still, the visuals are very good, and the monster designs are well-made, as well.

By comparison, Xenoblade Chronicles was a huge breakthrough, and despite some debatable design choices (most of which are spoiler-related, so I'll refrain), it was an RPG that finally did something new: filling a world with life, and building a story that respects and compliments that liveliness in many ways.
As for Xenoblade X, It basically aims to become a hybrid between an open-world JRPG with even more liveliness to it than Xenoblade, but also incorporates some MMO traits into its gameplay mechanics, especially when it comes to your own character, which you can freely design. The visuals are breathtaking, the monster designs are positively out of this world, and even the environments are filled to the brim with all kinds of details that motivate exploring such a vast world.

So far, I'll gladly recommend Xenoblade X, but wouldn't write off The Witcher 3 just like that. Still, get Xenoblade X - can't get any better than that!

Lol.

They both have pretty sub par combat, similar to their previous installments Xenoblade having sub par mmo-style auto attack / action bar combat and the Witcher having unimpressive action rpg sword combat with a handful of spells.

So I'd judge them on story and on that The Witcher wins so ridiculously. There's a greater consistence to the world and characters in both art design and writing. Xenoblade always made me cringe with it's wonky dialogue and random boob window, neon, clipping, and generally distracting armor designs. The characters in the Witcher are also less trope-y, to say the least. The Witcher's world also has a detailed history, something lacking from Xenoblade Chronicles and most JRPGs, so it's probably not in X either.

The Witcher 3 (judging from the Witcher 2 and preview articles) also has detailed side quests with voice acting and... effort, which Xenoblade Chronicles didn't have. Both the main story and side quests often incorporate player choices as well.

The only flaw I could see the Witcher having narratively is that the story is denser than Xenoblade; harder to get into, but not impossible without playing past games.

In terms of setting X is cyber punk and paradoxically has people wielding swords against laser guns. The Witcher has a more grounded medieval northern european-esque setting with magic and monsters added in. The world design in the Witcher is generally more naturalistic, with mountains, forests, and seas (generally in a northern climate) in what seems to be a mostly connected, perhaps spilt up into a few zones. Xenoblade Chronicles had the world split up into smaller, unconnected open world zones, somewhat like World of Warcraft, so I'd expect that from X too.

I've played the Witcher 2 and Xenoblade Chronicles extensively, by the way.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

@Haru17

We must have played completely different versions of The Witcher 2

Such a detailed critique, vilifying others is a fine way to not have to consider their viewpoints, no?

Anyway, I won't say I enjoyed the Witcher or Xenoblade's combat, but the Witcher generally made me wait for things to die less and the story was neat, so yeah. Also the faces in X look weird...

ACK

As someone who daily moans about the degradation of the JRPG, Xenoblade Chronicles felt like it was sent from heaven to my Wii (after an unfortunate excursion to hel... Err.. GameStop).

The Witcher games far haven't really impressed me, but, then again, the western RPG scene is flourishing... So I probably didn't value them as much, I guess.

Yeah, in both this and the original, the face quality is easily one of the worst parts by a country mile (though sometimes they look better (mainly by not being stiff) in some of the better cutscenes).

Haha I'd take the blurry downscaled faces of Xenoblade 3D ahead of those weird mannequin things in X.

I don't see the significant difference tbh. I mean, maybe it sticks out more in an HD game, I dunno.
