The irony in the "Nintendo stuck in the past" argument is that outside of graphical performance Nintendo aren't that behind at all this generation.

Well one could argue the account system and online features too. I honestly don't understand the whole "stuck in the past" argument either. Are they saying that Nintendo is relying on its franchises for success (because everyone does that tbh)?

I believe other companies think Nintendo is stuck in the past for two reasons: 1) they don't release that many M rated games. 2) Nintendo hasn't adopted Western sales strategies such as yearly releases for best sellers or restrictive online passes.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

When I'm playing a game, I WANT TO PLAY THE GAME. Nothing else. The Xbox One has no appeal for me whatsoever, and I really wanted to like it. I really did. I have tons of Gamerscore on my 360, my friends have all owned the Xbox in past generations, and I'd love to stay with them. But that's just not going to happen now. This new 'Box just has too many worrying aspects to it (mandatory game installations, cloud saves, used game fees, daily online "check," etc.) to warrant my money. Some of you may gasp and tout cloud saves as the way of the future, but once your data is lost/unavailable for long periods of time because the cloud is "experiencing difficulties," you'll change your tune pretty quickly. Give me hard drive saves any day. I don't want to access my Halo 8 replays on my smart phone to brag in the Starbucks line. Dear lord, don't ever let me turn into that person lol.

Nintendo, once again: market the Wii U for what it is. An awesome GAMING machine without the intrusive, sometimes expensive frills Microsoft (and maybe Sony) seem to be going with.

I am right there with you. I want a gaming machine, which is what the 360 started as. With TVs now letting you use Netflix and Hulu I no longer need them on my gaming machine. They are good features but will not sell me on the system. I am a gamer and I want games. If I want to watch TV, I will watch TV on my AT&T U-verse Box, why would I want to use my Gaming Machine for that? I don't even use the TVii function on my Wii U. Sony and Microsoft are holding onto their games for E3 but they are starting from a low position now, due to the lack of focus on Video Games, and really have to impress me with some awesome titles

And I wonder why. Maybe because when stuff like this happens people look to them out of trust. IF MS or Sony lose significant market share and Wii U keeps selling the companies who push these online passes wouldn't have a choice but to live with it.

They're just trying to make Xbox One work seamlessly with your other gadgets by daisy chaining. It's not really a bad thing that it does these things, but that's not what people buy a gaming console for. I'm wondering how much it costs to add these things, or if they just come standard because the hardware can handle it with no extra effort...
They probably have a deal with Xfinity and Verizon still, and they have the media stuff, but I'm pretty sure no one buys a gaming console for those things(at least as the main reason). I'm sure I'll eventually want it, but as of now it's not worth it. I'll have to start the whole launch protocol stuff over again...
Meh. I'll just wait and see what happens. It's still too early to tell. I like the controller for sure, though. I also know it will have the extra graphics, too. Plus, I already have tons of digital Xbox 360 games.

But the Xbox One won't be able to play any of those digital Xbox 360 games

Nintendo gets the fact that people want a games console for games. I like the fact that Nintendo are more focused in this way. They get it.

My problem with Xbox One (and to a certain extent Playstation) is that all these media functions cause 2 problems:
1.) Higher retail prices
2.) More potential technical issues.

Anyways, the games are what's most important at the end of the day. The only game I like so far for Xbox One is Forza 5. I like Forza alot, but I will need a stronger reason to purchase this console.

I believe it was confirmed that both 360 (boxed and digital) AND XBLA games will not be playable on the Xbox One. I have quite the collection of XBLA games, too, so that's another strike against this glorified cable box.

At this point, the only thing that will sell me on it will be an incredible roster of exclusive games. And I'm talking exclusives other than Gears, Halo, or... or... Fable? Yea, Fable. Gosh, I couldn't even think of another Microsoft exclusive lol. Hang on a second, let me look at my shelf... yea, I can't think of another exclusive franchise. Viva Pinata? Crackdown was ok... I'm coming up dry, guys. And I read another article on PC Gamer that made it fairly clear Microsoft will likely bring more than a few of their exclusives to the PC, as well. Makes sense with their continued bid for PC gamers through their Games for Windows stuff (terrible service, but still). So why even play games on an Xbox One when I can play most of them on my more powerful PC, even with the same exact controller if I want?

Ya, sorry. I thought the article here on NL confirmed BC. I thought he said it was 'backwards, but we're gonna do it anyway'. I'm sure they'll add BC eventually, but as of now, it won't be happening.
Oh well. I'm still gonna wait and see if it's worth it, even without BC.

How are they going to add BC later?

Every time you feel the urge to put "I'm sure" into one of your posts, you should just type "I hope". Will save everyone a lot of time.

But I don't care for BC THAT much. It just seems reluctant to not add it, which is why it will probably happen.

@Ryno
They only have to use part of the OS to do so. The hardware is there, much like Wii U for BC(using the OS), so the only thing keeping Xbox 360 games from showing up on Xbox One, is the original OS structure. They could even run the game like a regular Xbox 360 game, and use the Xbox 360 in game home menu, so that features from old and new consoles don't get mixed up.
They would have to open the OS program file, then change the locations it draws those functions from. The in game music player will still take files from the Xbox One HDD(the file format is still the same, the area it processes those files is different), new controllers should be compatible(since it's still pretty similar, then remap conrols like VC, except consumers wouldn't have control over this unless the game lets you do that). The only games that wouldn't be able to do BC are Kinect(with the new Kinect), but plugging in the old Kinect would fix that.
There's ways to do it. Whether they spend the time to only use a fraction of the console, and reroute commands is a different story. The Wii Menu on Wii U, still has a channel to switch back to the Wii U menu.
Basically, the way Wii U does it is the exact same way Xbox One will do it.
The only console that most likely won't allow BC ever, is PS4, because the architecture is completely different(PS4 ditched cell, and Microsoft still uses the same processes as they always have), and the servers have a hold of the game.
PSN is basically the complete opposite of NNID right now. Nintendo has the games, but no account, and Sony has the accounts, but no content for PS4 from BC.

My point, which you seem to have completely missed, is you often throw around "I'm sure..." and "I guarantee..." and "I know..." when you have absolutely no knowledge to back up your claims. It's all your personal speculation based primarily on what you personally would do if you were running whatever video game company you happen to be discussing.

Well at least I don't have to worry about Microsoft anymore because they have committed suicide by shooting them selves in the head with that silly Xbox One (what a horrible name... It's worse than the Wii U! And they are trying to go for the casual crowd, who, with their tiny brains will get the 360 becuse they know how to count!). You're next Sony. Hurry up and screw yourselves over.

yeah i'm sticking with wii u and ps4. microsoft in my opinion is just making such terrible decisions.
i mean with backwards compatibility and tying the game to your system. what about that sounds appealing?
