Topic: The Wii U Dashboard

In my opinion the Wii U Dashboard is pretty sucky, I like the Mii Plaza bit but the bit that has all the channels is dull and not appealing.
I would like to see a better way of organizing my Dashboard from my Demos, my Wii U E Shop downloads, my video Apps like Netflix & Youtube and... my future Retro games Snes and NES etc
I really really hope they don't introduce those irritating folders that they made for the 3DS with that stupid 1 letter system but sadly I think this is what Niintendo will eventually offer us.
Would anyone else like to see a better designed Dashboard? maybe something closer to like how Xbox 360's Dahboard looks or something entirely new and updated, or maybe your happy with how it is...

Some wallpapers in background would help at least. But for now its click and drag...

I like the dasboard. At least be thankful that it doesn't have ads.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

It's simple. It's clean, it's not hard to look at and it takes no time learning to navigate. I'd rather them keep this layout than do anything remotely like XBox, that dashboard is an eyesore in my opinion.

Feel free to add me on the Nintendo Network: ShadJV

HA! True!
I'm ok with it and I'll be happy with folders since I'm a very organised person in life anyway, but those letters to title the folders were so drab! Would it be difficult for them to post out some symbols, like the ones representative of the games in NintendoLand (egg for yoshi etc). They'd own most copyrights and we don't want them to spend money unnecessarily but neither would it be hard for them to come up with some symbols or summat, the controllers from the NES, SNES, N64 etc - all in basic design of course. I can't imagine it would cost much at all and at least it'll look better. They have to do something because with 3 downloaded titles and 2 demos my 'dashboard' is already looking cluttered!

I have a 360 though it's not used nearly as much as my other systems. Ads everywhere and it took me awhile to figure out how to find everything on it. I mean, I would tolerate wallpapers on the Wii U dashboard but that's about it. I don't need a complex dashboard, I'm only using it to get to my games.

And so it should be free of ads! At 350 i paid for this machine...ads usually come on free stuff...

I really like the channels menu of the Wii, so the Wii U's menu suits me just fine. The main plus is not having a separate menu for external storage. I would like to see something done about the way channel moves are done. The present method of swapping sucks. The way the DS did it by causing moved channels to be inserted was a lot neater and saved a lot of time shuffling things.

I used to travel the stars, then I discovered Earth, and these incredibly addicting things called 'Video Games.'
And they said you couldn't buy happiness!

Really don't see what wrong with the Xbox dashboard. The majority of the ads are for content that can be used or bought on the system,

Its way better than the Dashboard on the Wii U because it puts content first. I have bought a lot more stuff because something has been promoted on the front page of the home or games hub tiles.

I would go mad using the Xbox dashboard. I like my gaming system for playing games. Not being told I can rent a movie I wouldn't like, or watch some politics. I swear Microsoft is making the button to play the games you have smaller and smaller with every update.

See I use my Xbox to more than. just play games. Microsoft also has stats to prove that this is a growing trend.

Apple TV is the same way.

Untitled

Also not sure why the play games button has to be giant. From a design stands point having play game be a giant button is a vast waste of space where other infomatiom can be given.

Using the home screen as an example that was advertising a sale on Lego based games and I picked up Lego star Wars for $10 and Lego Batman for $10 as well.

But then again I use my console for more than games and I buy TV shows and Movies off of Xbox video and I have a Xbox music sub.

But you can have the Xbox to play game on console boot up.

Also I watched all of the debates and the RNC and DNC on my Xbox.

I've seen the 360's main menu too, it looks like everything's all over the place... imo Nintendo got the system menu layout right, especially with the 3DS since you can make your own folders

Count me down for another that likes the Wii U menu and doesn't like the Xbox menu.

having owning all 3 i dont have a problem with either

but i slightly prefer the ps3 over the wiiu the 360 is definitly third place, see its like this for me

ps3 & wiiu for first place and 360 for 2nd

ultimately it has to do with the folders on the ps3 and probably the left Right Top Down scrolling style that i like

I used to be amazed by the ps3 store it was a firecracker how fast it loaded then they did that update now its' a slow dog. I hate the thing now. Other stuff is still cool but the store is awful.

Hate the Xbox dashboard. Pay for the services and get inundated with Adverts, Wii U Menu is a breath of fresh air. Could do with folders though.

Oh shit you must hate cable newspapers, and 95 percent of other media out their,

But I agree man I turned on my kindle and an Ad came up for 25% off of a audible subscription so I said **** that and threw it away,

U then started to watch TV but to my horror a commercial a restaurant came up and I nearly died.

Come on son.

How are ads for content that's on the console a bad thing. Really instead of saying how you hate ads tell how they Microsoft having discover ability for content is a detriment to not only you as a consumer but developers who complain about the lack of discover ability on the various content stores

For example I turned on my 360 this morning and it looked like this.

Untitled

-clicking on the 2012 tile takes me too a bunch of games that came out last year but didn't get a lot of press.

-clicking on the Rockstar Deals bring up this weeks store sale which is on Red Dead Redemption DLC.

-clicking on Ugly Americans takes you to Hulu Plus

When I click on the Angry Birds tab it takes me here

Untitled
Untitled
Untitled
Untitled

It takes me to a hub based around Kinect Games and Applications. That is effective advertising of a product that a user might want.

The X games panel opens up to the Xbox sports Hub which is similar to the Tvii sports stuff expect it has more services and isn't a desperate app.

Untitled
Untitled

Now let's take a look at the Games Hub
Untitled

From a pushing new content standpoint this is actually pretty good. Both The Cave (an indie game) and the Dead Space 3 demo came out this week and clicking either tab takes you to them in the store.

While the Walking dead may not be new but is still pretty recent and clicking on it takes you to its page .

Clicking the Lego icon takes you to a hub showcasing all of the Lego games that can be purchased on the store and the demos for the more recent ones not on the store yet.

Then on the side there is a recommendation pane based on what you have played.

Explain how putting content and evenly promoting indie as well as major games on its store front is a bad thing.

There TV application is the same way showing recent content (The following started last week and so was the american horror story season finale.) Clicking each one takes me too Xbox video but it also tells me if the content is available in other video apps as well.

Untitled

Again with the Music app all of it is recent content and is updated every Tuesday (the day new music hits) also has a link for the vevo app IG you want to watch music videos. The Titeso title takes you to Youtube playing a live performance he did with the Blue man Group.

And finally the app Hub where you can download non gaming content.

Untitled

Its almost as if people use consoles as more than game machines. The days of a system that only plays and promotes games are done.

Now as a consumer tell me how Microsoft showing you ,ore content on the fore front is a bad thing.

Really explain how any of this us bad when most developers Chief complaints even about the Wii U eshop are worries about discoverablilty as well Nintendo not show casing sales that great. I mean if O didn't browse this forum or gonintendo I wouldnt have known about the eshop after Christmas sale.

But here's the kicker not everyone vists those sites so how do you presume a company gets this information to an average Joe consumer.

My uncle recently got an xbox mostly for the video content but he has bought a few games for the family because they have been advertised on the front page something he probably wouldn't do other wise as he rarely goes into the game store. But having that content on the front page led him to pick up the walking dead (as a fan of the show), Nike+ kinect (dude uses nike + fuel band) and the sesame street games for his kids.
