Looks very nice. The Wii boxart to me was very plain and boring. I like that this brings the name to the center, with a well needed splash of color. (If only the Wii U itself was turquoise..) It does a good job standing out.
I could care less about the Yellow. Glad they went back to the GCN case style though! As much as I love the Wii, the cases were...bland. Can't wait to have one of these (or more) on my shelf when the Wii U comes out! The Assassin's Creed case looks so awesome!
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
Turquoise, really? Why, was hot pink already chosen for the Xbox 720?
Not completely turquoise, just accented on the system. Honestly, its not as dumb as you make it out to be. Anything but the plain white -looks just like the Wii- design the system currently has. Purple, really? Wait yes really, it worked with the SNES.
No, I'm aware that the GameCube didn't sell quite well when it released, but I wouldn't deem it their least popular console based solely on its financial disaster, 'specially seeing as how the Wii's success was mainly inspired by the criticisms the GameCube received - and I don't feel the console died per se, seeing what happened with the Wii being 100% backwards-compatible with the GC's software and peripherals. And despite its failure sales-wise, we all know that the GC came to offer us many unforgettable gaming experiences on Nintendo's part. Yet I digress; I suppose this may be considered based solely on a perspective.

Oh, I see. Global popularity is determined on whether GameLord likes something or not.
My bad!
Nintendo still copied the Gamecube box design though.

If the Gamecube didn't do well because of the software boxart, then I don't want to live on this planet anymore (If only there was a non-locked thread I could say that in). Seriously, of all of the detriments the system had on it, the boxart is definitely not among them.

I was specifically talking about the case art, I should have specified sorry. I have discussed my thoughts on the looks of the system on another thread. Anyway, so I don't like turquoise. I think turquoise is one of the most um.. how to say... "seasonal" and "dated" color's a company could choose to brand their product with unless maybe you are selling homes in the Caribbean.
As for purple, at least purple is bold and I would like that, turquoise is just weak.

Unforunately, none of my arguments were based on my personal preference for the GameCube, or lack thereof; I don't own nor I have ever played the console, therefore your alleged accusations of my statements being biased are void.
Having said that, I apologise and admit that I phrased my first statement incorrectly - I am aware the the GameCube was considerably unpopular sales-wise, but my point was that the console still did have quite an influence on Nintendo, their consumerism and their infrastructure in the gaming industry and whatnot, thus me deeming it the complete opposite in that sense. And please, for your sake, do not let this get to your head.
lol. It seems to come down to whether or not the people like the colors. There's no color scheme that can make everyone happy. That's why Nintendo resorts to using white a lot.
Personally, I like it. The yellow is there so that it's not just white and blue. And I don't think it's supposed to blend in with boxarts as much as it's supposed to contrast with them. To make it stand out, like "This is the Wii U version!"
lol "inviting"
Looks pretty nasty imo. Must be the yellow..."BestBuy" would be proud.

Haha... I knew it reminded me of something!

That or Ikea.
But if it were Blue and orange everybody would be calling it a Goku

That would have been so much better.
I don't think so. Having two opposite colors on the same box right next to each other usually doesn't work. They don't clash well. Yeah, it worked in Dragon Ball, but I doubt it'd work for most boxart.
Personally, I think it'd be cool if the colors were up to the publisher. Games like Fifa could retain the blue/yellow, while games like Assassin's Creed could go for a Blue and white sceme. It won't happen, but I think it could work.

I think a lighter shade of Blue than turquoise and lighter shade of orange would have actually gone well together. If Nintendo is going for "a splash of color to get your attention" it certainly would have worked. Ever way I would have preferred something more SNES/GameCube purple or darker Blue without the random yellow.

Then I see what you mean. Subtlety can do wonders.
