Really, I want Nintendo to keep coming at games the way they are with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude.

If the gameplay would work with Mario or Link, make it a Mario or Zelda game.

I want Nintendo to bring BACK old IPs like Metroid and Banjo, but as for new ones, only make them if older IPs won't work with them as well as they should.

I'm saying this to say Metroid and Zelda (Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess) are the kinds of mature games I want Nintendo to make. Metroid is scary not so much because of the enemies, but because of the sheer isolation on the massive world you explore. And with Samus not speaking in Prime, you feel as though you are truly alone. Zelda on the other hand comes from a more emotional maturity with the dark tone of Twilight Princess and the hard hitting from Majora's Mask's interactions.

Are you saying that if Nintendo could make an M-rated Mario game then they should? I don't even see how that could possible, short of forcing it. I guess they could make the story VERY mature and show what Bowser actually does to Peach after he kidnaps her... but I don't think anyone wants to think about that, let alone see it. Imagine all the ruined childhoods. I mean, Peach did seem to think that it was possible that Bowser Jr. was hers in Super Mario Sunshine, right? ...Uh... nevermind...

Well, somebody has to say it: Banjo-Kazooie is owned by Rare who is now owned by Microsoft who owns Xbox. So there will not be any new Banjo-Kazooie games on a Nintendo system, for at least a while. Like, a decade or two, at the earliest, if ever.

I'm all for Nintendo bringing back old IPs, but I don't think they should not make new ones. If they never made new ones, there would never be old ones, right?

I find it funny how you just tried to speak badly about Other M and praise the Prime games by saying that Samus didn't speak in the Prime games and are obviously referencing how she did in Other M, but your reason for why the Prime games are better is because you feel isolated in those games, implying that you don't in Other M. I certainly don't feel alone in Prime 3. I mean, you're constantly being told what to do in Prime 3, just like you are in Other M. So, yeah, it's not as black and white as Prime and Other M. I know you never specifically mentioned Other M, but I know what you're saying. Metroid Prime 1 & 2 did a good job of creating an isolated atmosphere, though. Although, Metroid 1, 2 & 3 did it even better.

I think all the Zelda games have some mature themes in them. Maybe not so much the first one, and definitely more mature themes in certain games (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Twilight Princess), but even some of the other Zelda games have some dark tones in there. Zelda does a good job of being a kid-friendly mature game, in my opinion. It's certainly not an easy thing to do, if non-Nintendo games are anything to go off of (They're usually either too kiddy and are off-putting to adults or put too much emphasis on trying to be adult that it's clearly not kid-safe.).

nintendo have had plenty of mature themes in games. the mother games spring to mind straight away, and stuff like majoras mask.
you dont need blood, boobs and buckin' to be mature.

put it on.

To many people are getting held up on the actual word mature for this discussion when in reality this conversation is about adult themed games. Some themes or topics simply cant be touched on with a lower rating, could you imagine GTA5 as a Teen game? Could you imagine Game of Thrones or Boardwalk Empire if they were not on HBO? or Breaking Bad if it was not on AMC?

No you dont need blood and boobs to be mature, but certain themes and topics would simply not be as good without them.

You know when I think of "mature" I think of content like this not the age rating on the box.

Although a film like Blade Runner could never be and should never be for kids it's not just about boobs, guns and guts.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"

(I love you).

Nintendo tried to do mature (and they did it really well) with Other M. But most people ignored what they tried to do with Samus and complained about it all.

Nintendo is ready to go mature, I'd love to see them try and do something as bats**t crazy as Suda, but still addressing themes that are far more impacting than 'save the princess, save the world'. Most of the problem lies in the fans of the series Nintendo tries to mature up. Everyone has this ideal vision of what they wanted the next series to be, and when they get something that was foreign to them they rejected it. Take Wind Waker, everyone saw a cartoony, cel-shaded stab in the back to the electric-tennis pro Link. Yet under the hood of the cutesy animated figures, was a story about mass murder.

Nintendo can go mature, but a lot of people are holding them back, which is why they release the same games that everyone loves, without changing the formula drastically.

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!

Nintendo have published mature (Cero C and D) titles in Japan for a long time, but not many of them seem to make it to the west. The Wii U even had a Cero Z (the highest rating) title at launch, which was Ninja Gaiden 3.

The mature series that I'd most like to see Nintendo bring over from Japan is Fatal Frame. A new Wii U installment could be amazing (GamePad Obscura!) but I'd even settle for localizations of the Wii's FF2 and FF4.
