reason number one they should have made better gamer bundles for the system when it 1sth Came out also they should of relased a 50gigbyte wii u for the hardcore gamers with a longer battery life.

sorry if my spelling is off im using a libary computer and this computer dosent seem to have spell check

2 Reason number 2 is i think what Nintendo really should of done with the gamepad is they really should of installed a disc slot for the game pad so this way it could be portable.

Reason number 3 is they dont have much games in the making it seems to me like they are aiming for 2014 rather than just releashing them now.
with sooo many gamers switching to the ps4 and all in one xbox its quite a huge knock out for the wii u and a huge threat to the company because everyone is probably going to switch when the ps4 comes out and the all in one xbox comes out.

By far ive been supperoting nintendo ever since i got the gameboy color i was born in the early 90s soo ive seen all the big hit systems the wii u is okay they just need to make more Eshop content rather than displaying trailers at Expo events

basicly what im saying is all the nintendo wii u system is Dust in the wind

The major problem is 3 things

1. No 3rd party support
2. Barely any 1st party games to play
3. Horrible specs for a "next-gen" console

Simple as that.

say what? a disc slot in the Gamepad? there's no hardware to play games in the pad, it's just a "dumb" screen with some buttons. And you can't stuff all the features of the Wii U console inside the pad, there's not enough space.

This is an amazing sentence. Let me soak up the irony a bit.

Reason: no software.

I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it was going to be this dry. And I wouldn't recommend any of my friends to buy it atm. Software is THE selling point, the WiiU is severely lacking.

That's exactly what I think. The only reason I own a Wii U right now is because I thought I would be playing [i]Pikmin 3[i] by March. That clearly didn't happen. Had I known [i]Pikmin 3[i] would actually be releasing in August, I would have waited until around now to buy a Wii U. I don't mind so much as I've at least had the opportunity to take advantage of some Virtual Console sales, but it's still not at all what I thought I'd have by now.

I almost wonder if Nintendo knew from the very start that these "launch window" games would be coming much later, and they lied to sell many people on their system who simply wouldn't have bought it at all without these false promises.

While I agree its mostly due to lack of third party support. Microsoft has said that in the first year of the system were going to see 15 first party games, with sony having 20 I believe for the PS4 launch.

At the end of the first year of the Wii U were going to have had
New Super Mario Bros U
NintendoLand
Game & Wario
Sing Party
Lego City: Undercover
Super Luigi U
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
The Legend of Zelda: WInd Waker
WIi Party U
Donkey Kong Country : Tropical Freeze
Mario and Sonic at the Olympics 2014

counting exclusive thrid party games
ZombiU
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate

That's fourteen games in the first year comparable to the MS/Sony promises. Problem is lack of third party support, Droughts, and content or games not releasing at the sametime as the other consoles SKUs does no favors to the WIi U sales wise.

I just don't find Nintendo to be as serious about helping the WIi U as they were the 3DS.

I'm not sure people are ready for using the gamepad with a console. Sure, it's something new, but familiarity (standard controller) can be comforting. I think that may play a part, too.

Nintendo is a long term company, not an upstart looking to turn some quick cash and then kill it's install base.

I think Nintendo made a mistake. Simple as that. They underestimated turn around times, actually believed the word of 3rd parties and for that, they and their first adopting fans are paying the price with the Wii U. It was a major miscalculation and heads should roll, but as far as how I feel, I will stick with Nintendo for now. I think over all it's a great company which provides me with entertainment no one else can. I bought a Wii U when it was released to get me through some surgery down time. I hadn't initially planned on it, but now I'm glad I did. I've had some great times with the system already and look forward to a lot more when they start releasing the quantity of quality Nintendo titles we've come to expect from them.

We've all made mistakes, the only reason this feels more unacceptable than our own mistakes is because we've paid a lot of cash based on a companies word and they temporarily let us down.

As for the 3rd parties not supporting, they don't have the confidence in their own product. They know their product isn't good enough to sell a system on it's own and no one wants to make the commitment. Their circular argument of waiting until there is an adequate install base is ludicrous. If they had good system selling games, they could help create the install base and profit, instead they're opportunistic vultures waiting for Nintendo to do all the heavy lifting and unfortunately, the Big N isn't there yet... but soon!

This is just like the 3DS. There are plenty of reasons the Wii U isn't selling in its first month
Doesn't understand the hardware.
Lack of advertising (but back then, the 3DS had good enough advertising)
Price could be an issue
Lack of great games

There's just too many issues to pin. It could be any/all of them.

Its less of people not being ready. and more of people not caring. I mean I;ve had people tell how cool the Tablet stuff microsoft/Ubisoft/EA showed at E3 was and when I tell them about the WIi U they;re answer is they already own 1 or more smartphones or tablets so why would they want an inferior one.

I agree with the no software, but there's also virtually no advertising. I can only ever remember watching two Wii U adverts since it was released, and that's just bad.

The price cut and free games was awesome, but 3DS' software was still fairly lacking for a while. Even after Mario. Wii U is already ahead for indie stuff (or will be by the end of the year) and at least has some of the popular 3rd party games coming out. I would like to point out that literally last year one of 3DS more talked about 3rd party games last year was an N-Space game.

Well 2011 totally did start the 3DS becoming awesome. I bought the 3DS for Mario but soon Afterward Pushmo came out and started a trend of cool downloadable games featuring new IP for the 3DS. Most of these were developed by or with Nintendo and that held a lot of people over until stuff like Resident Evil and Kid Icarus started to come out in March.

I still haven't seen any of that with the WIi U. Take the recent Nintendo direct where they showcased 3DS games. The 3DS is a fine product but I would have had chibi Robo be a $10-$20 eshop game in the vein of the Gamecube game and Genius Sorority would have been working on Denpamen WIi U or a new Wii U eshop RPG.

The Wii U has been a hit with indie developers but we still haven't seen that pay out the dividends until late this year and next year. The problem is the system is out now and alot of its indie have been ports or expanded versions of games found elsewhere. (not that is a bad thing).

The biggest problem is the indie advantge isn't that big anymore considering the Playstation 4 is friendly with indes as well.

I believe its also due to the lack of software and advertising. I mean what was the last Wii U commercial you saw and when? I think if nintendo was to make a wii u commercial similar to this one here with the 3ds...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42wx013xFKc it would sell much better this holiday season and a price drop would help.

fair enough, but (and I looked up the full 3DS game list to double check) most of the rest of the year was not that great for the system. Personally, I find Wii U's upcoming library up through Mario Kart 8's likely March/April will almost certainly be better than 3DS in the same amount of time, and depending on how it goes, nearly even with where 3DS is right now. Though it might help that I'd prefer to get downloadable games on Wii U in the hope of getting some free points (because IIRC, a decent amount of Wii U bound indie games will be on 3DS).

A more unbiased reason, is that most of 3DS' 3rd party games don't matter outside of Japan. Wii U regardless of the impossible task of downgraded ports, I feel will have more 3rd party games that people in America will care about because it isn't EO4 or anything that DARES to be "niche". Though obviously we could also have more "HOW DARE THEY MAKE DEAD SPACE A RAIL SHOOTER AND HAVE IT ACTUALLY WORK" scenarios that would destroy that logic quickly.

Edit: also thank you new piece of information by Iwata on the front page. I forgot about the supposed surprise announcements that would I assume fit the Pushmo/Rolling Western example.

Like Wii U is way ahead of 3DS for downloadable gaming. Of course, that's not as much a compliment as much as exactly what it should be. 3DS is likely never going to be some great haven for indies, its eShop what other people have called "Nintendo's best kept secret" but its still secret and I don't see it growing to be a major indie haven. It just is what it is and is fine. Nintendo's effort for indies and the like is very, very much for Wii U, with Ps4 around they need it, it makes them look awesome compared to Xbox, and most indie gaming (at least that any of us care about) is western and Nintendo's apparent strategy is more western for Wii U and more japanese support for 3DS. That's what I've gotten out of all of this and it makes sense. Makes more sense than being SHOCKED that HD Pikmin and whatever takes a lot more people than the previous games.

The Wii U will be fine. I think we'll have the ACTUAL status when the other consoles take off later this year.
The specs are good enough. Anyone still thinking the Wii U specs are a big problem have not been paying attention to the DS's domination over the PSP.

I can understand the software lack, but we know games will be around by the time PS4 and Xbox One come out, which is why it's a better idea to wait until later this year to really determine Wii U's focus.
There will be plenty to play EVENTUALLY.

The reason is simple, Nintendo thought touchscreen was gonna take off like motion control, they thought Nintendo land was going to be a massive hit with casual gamers like Wii Sports was, now that that didn't happen they don't know what to do.....
