Given there is a Wii U transfer process (which I assume means moving over your external hard drive), I would very likely upgrade if it were somehow compelling, i.e., not just more internal storage, which I don't need (unless Wii mode could use it to avoid needing an SD card).
Well the thing is with a portable console the only way to improve the hardware is to release a brand new console. Without a revision you're stuck with the same inputs, the same features and the same screens. So with the original DS people were stuck with the horrible ID and pretty average screens. With the DSLite they fixed that but it was still basically an offline console which they patched with the DSi. With the original 3DS? Well there's Amiibo, a second analogue input and improved screen.
When they wanted to improve the shortcomings of the Wii? They didn't need to release a brand new console.
So there was no "New Wii".
When I think about what the Wii U has? Like it or not the GamePad is a swiss-army knife kind of controller. There isn't that much you could add to it that's immediately obvious. You could add something to the Wii U in terms if I/O but nothing much that couldn't be an accessory. Like the Gamecube adapter. And the fact that there's not much worth doing is reflected in the OP's post. Infact the only thing I can think of would be a revised GamePad with improved wireless performance (i.e. less compression) and a higher resolution screen. With a trivially small improvement in performance to support it.

They really should try to make the gamepad look more appealing to the buying public. I love the gamepad but not because it's pretty. On launch day when I saw it in real life for the first time I was unimpressed. It was big and bubbly looking and rather plain. I forgive anyone unexcited by its appearance and I think they could really give it a cosmetic makeover at the very least. It certainly would be in line with de-uglifying their handheld line
A gamepad with battery life that isn't horrible and a screen with actually decent resolution would be a good start. A new Wii U model with more built in storage in various colors would be even better.
New Wii U would never happened. Nintendo knows that the Wii U is a failure. It would be stupid if they made a upgraded version.
Some random dude on Nintendo Life.
Toriel left for a while, so Freaky Fred took over her place!
Not changing this part of the signature until Nintendo announces Super Mario Sunshine 2.

While I'd be strongly against a spec bump, I think there definety IS potential for a revised model. Its main purpose would probably be to lower the price, but I could see some features like built-in ethernet and higer-voltaged (or ampered, or wattever) USB-ports. As for a higher res Gamepad screen, I don't know. It would mean that the console itself would have to draw more pixels, and seeing as most of its games are 720p, that doesn't sound like a smart idea. A better display in terms of color reproduction, gamma, temperatures and all that jazz (and of course, lower energy consumption) would definitely be nice.
Yeah, I doubt they'd do a revision that was an improvement on the Wii U. If they were to though a better GamePad screen, Ethernet and more USB ports would be what it'd need. Beyond that there isn't much. Also the only reason I said that the GamePad could do with a higher resolution screen is because it's currently 480p. Which works, I'm not complaining, but it could have been better. I mean the Vita has a better screen than the Wii U... in every spec....
