Nope, they don't give you a charged gamepad, I learnt that xD.

Got mine on 26th of June, bought DKC Tropical Freeze on Eshop, really enjoy it, prefer it to the NSMB games.

Then bought MK8 on 29th of June and got NSMBU as the free game with it, both good games, but MK8 gets most of the attention.

Then I managed to find SM3DW pretty cheap on eBay, that arrived today, and I've played through the first world, looking forward to getting a real session in on it.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the Wii U, playing it more than I thought, and some good stuff coming out soon.

Maybe we should set up a date night and we could play a lil D&D together. I will even dress up as whatever fantasy character you like.

Now a days it's the opposite actually since we are an impatient society. My brand new phone for the most part came fully charged.

Well, first week here, so far I'm very pleased that it turned out that the WiiU has in fact an universal power supply. as does the gamepad ^^ Therefore my U.S. import works fine.
I can't say I had a great first experience though, booting up WWHD and finding it had no way to inverse the 3rd person view was pretty upsetting for a while. Luckily the German team owned Brazil then, and I got over my bad mood. It's still pretty disappointing with it being a remaster, a Zelda game no less and also the beginning of a new generation for Nintendo. I didn't expect that, not at all, makes me worried actually.
The lack of Friendlist/Social features is also something that, while I knew about it before hand, hurts the experience. No messages, no direct joining on the Friendlist ... also no voice talk during MK8 races. Coming straight from PS4 and Xbox One, this is really disturbing. On Xlive it takes me only seconds to be in a party with my friends, having access to voice chat all the time, joining their game on a whim, it's .... a very strange change of pace on the WiiU. Everything feels more like a barrier, than an invitation to play as well as communicate with friends. I hope Splatoon will not suffer from any of those "limitations", that would be a shame beyond words.
On a brighter note, MK8 is great fun, the games look pretty amazing and seem to be running really smoothly. The WiiU is really compact and basically inaudible. The gamepad is better than I thought, also not 100% comfortable to grip for hours at a time and while the screen is also better than expected, it can't hold a candle neither to the Vita nor to my Plasma TV, the black levels and the colours are just not there. But that is the fault of the technology Nintendo choose to use. It's ok to use the Gamepad for off-screen play, e.g. during a boring soccer match (looking at you Argentina ^^), but for anything else the drop in picture quality is just too significant to be a really alternative for me.
The MK8 promotion was really welcome on the other hand, especially with the Deluxe promotion, thanks to MK8, free Zelda and Pikmin I already got 15$ bucks out of it the very first day ^^ I also like the ability to control my TV via the Gamepad, didn't know that was possible, also worked like a charm and was very easy to set up.

Despite the problems and limitations I mentioned, I really like my WiiU. I'm just sad that so many of those issues could be easily fixed and make the system and the games so much better. Due to this factors I still don't feel like I can recommend a WiiU to my buddies for anything else other than the exclusives games, and those are still far and few between. I don't regret my purchase (why oh why no inversion in WWHD though, that is soooo .... ahh =/ ) but Nintendo has WAYS to go, to reach parity in terms of ease of use, features, online etc. with its' competitors. Sony is still struggling to get PSN to XLive levels multiplayer-wise but Nintendo is barely out of the gate on this.
They really need to get cracking on this. I have a few buddies, I dare not suggesting the WiiU to, since once I get started with the likes of "We'd have to use Skype so we can ....", I would have to answer questions I could not possibly answer satisfactorily. I know Nintendo is trying hard, and I appreciate that, but they are like at least half a decade behind the curve here ... and it is hurting them, hurting them badly, I'm sure of it.
I can see it in my own reactions, despite being a constant Nintendo user since the days of the SNES ... reactions marked by disbelief and annoyance. The reactions from friends, who are not used to Nintendos' way of doing things are even more telling. Nintendo failed to reproduce the all-groups-encompassing success of the WiiU, if it doesn't want the WiiU to end in disaster, it has to at least reach the "gamer"-group. That group, besides the traditional Nintendo fanbase, which can be summed up with the word Gamecube, has come to expect a certain level of features and convenience. A level which Nintendo currently can't offer, is far from offering really. That was the most unpleasant take-away (aside from the WWHD inversion desaster) from my first couple of days with my new WiiU. I'm stunned by Nintendo HD, I'm ... let's say severly underwhelmed by the system-software/infrastructure side of things.
Amazing potential, daunting shortcomings!

This thread reminded me of the "Wii would like to play" commercials SUCH DISAPPOINTED when there was no "Wii would like U to play" hell have Nintendo employees go to celebrities houses I would love seeing Sakurai own The Rock in Smash Wii U lol but staying to the topic I might pick up a Wii U by the end of summer or mid fall

Yesterday was a good day. Went to London comic con, met Stan Lee, and came home to find my Wii U had been delivered. I know most couriers don't do saturday delivery so I wasn't expecting it at all.

Sounds like a pretty great day.

And yeah, I noticed Parcelforce charge something like £8 extra if you want to deliver on Saturday's, I thought that was crazy, should be standard like the general post is.

Now I have to wait for my wallet to recover and buy Pikmin 3, after I play through Pikmin 1 and 2.

Same here. I'd really like to get the high capacity battery and Monster Hunter, but I really should hold off after such a large and unexpected spend. Here is a pic of everything.

Managed to make back £52 from selling Just Dance, Wii Party U and a code for Wind Waker HD, so a £213 spend to get the console, two remotes, a pro controller and these 3 games. Very happy with that!

Got mine a few months ago and I really LOVE it. Specially that I can use the gamepad as a tv and play the games off-screen. (TV-Off mode?) I got several promos and the 32 Gig deluxe, which was great, so I got discounts on the online store and also got Mario Kart + Pickmin Free!!
The only thing that I hate is that I can't play Wii games on the gamepad using the gamepad controls, and also no gamecube support. Apart from that everything is great! I got Assasins Creed 3 and 4 just this week. I don't like violent games, but still loved it. I even look away on some scenes, but the HD graphics of the towns and sea are great. I know PS4/XBoxOne has better graphics, but I don't care, I love Mario, so I wanted a Nintendo game. And the gamepad been like a TV to play most games really sold for me. It was 99% of the reason I got it. I already ordered a better battery for it, the first I got was a fake Chinese one... but now I got an original from Japan.
I also purchased several games on the online store, specially Mario 3D World, which I didn't like as much as Mario Galaxy 1 and 2, but it was great, specially the HD graphics. Yesterday I was even playing Mario Galaxy 2 again, but the graphics now looks strange, compared to what the Wii U can do in terms of HD graphics.
I can understand that some people will get an XBOX or PS, since they have more violent games, but for me, the Wii U is just perfect.
Forgot about Darksiders 2 and Batman Azilum (typo?) Got those too! Man, I'm so happy to own all this games, and more specially, been legit, as most gamers here where I live own non-legit stuff. That's just sad... 100% of my stuff since the Gamecube (even the N64) era is legit!!!
I just miss my Gamecube... I even have a new game I got on eBay (used) that I never played, since my Kid now owns my old Wii.... but I'm thinking on taking it back, since she's not doing good at the school...
Some other gream gems I got and love: Trine 2, Super Mario Wii U, and many others... Already filled up 120 Gig of my external HD with games.

I picked up the Deluxe Mario/Luigi bundle yesterday at Target for $230 and change. I had been debating on buying the refurb from Ninty's website. A combination of sales tax/shipping pushing the console closer to $220 and my apprehension over refurb items, couldn't make me pull the trigger. So when Target had the cartwheel/mover's coupon/red card deal going on, I couldn't resist any longer.

Funny thing is, I've had Mario Kart for over a month now. Bought it from Amazon when it was on sale and sold off the coupon code(don't do retail game digital downloads). Net cost $25 for the game. I also got the Energizer gamepad charger at the same time for $10.

I plan on picking up Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong and Wind Waker when there's a sale. Kicking myself now since I passed on the B2G1 Free deal a few weeks back.

My question is are there any must have Wii U accessories I need to get? Correct me if I'm wrong but the Wii controllers still work on Wii U?

Bought a used one a week ago from gamestop (zelda edition). This is my second time. After i had bought one earlier about a year or so ago i got rid of it, worried about it not pulling out any good games the way it was headed. So bought and xbox one and finally after a year after that once i saw that nintendo was pulling themselves out of their ditch they dug and wii u used prices even started rising i went ahead and got another one. So now im a proud owner of two wonderful consoles

Mainly excited about new zelda, smash bros, splatoon, and possible fox game!

Yes, wii controllers work for some games at least. Probably most. Best Buy is having a sale on the Pro Controller- it's like $29 from July 20th through the 26th. It's supposed to have 80 hours of battery life and everybody that has one loves it. Sounds like you got a great deal with the Mario/Luigi bundle.

Seems everyone is enjoying their Wii U! Got mine during the launch period, and although I haven't played much of it as well as you guys do (I MEAN MY U'S OUTDATED!) I'm loving what I've played so far!
