I remember 3 years ago seeing some gameplay of High Voltage Software's answer to LEFT4DEAD on the Wii; THE GRINDER. Whatever happened to this game (or the overhead twin-stick shooter for XBLA)? Would anyone else like to see High Voltage Software become a Nintendo second party developer.

You havn't seen BAD BOYS 2 ???!!

WhiteTrashGuy

HVS's Wii engines really pushed the system's capabilities I can only imagine what they could do with the Wii U.

Well, Geometry Wars did show up on Wii, so there's the dual anolog arcade type shooter for you. I saw this game to, and like alot of games, if it doesn't come out I forget about it. I really wanted to play The Conduit 1/2 as well, but never really got around to it, because of no money, and when I did have money, I forgot about it because it was old and hard to find by then. I doubt they'll release this anymore.

Wow, I forgot all about that game, I remember wanting it back then

High Voltage Software is a licensed developer for Wii U, so I'm sure we're going to get something. The project may have turned into something else, since it's been so long since we heard anything about it.

I don't know. High Voltage isn't the most talented studio.

Yet it looked like a shiny PS2 FPS.

As for your question about being a second party developer: no. The standard quality of HVS is mediocre and that's not exactly wanted at Nintendo.

I disagree. Their team created a pretty good game developing engine specifically for Wii to get the most out of the hardware. Besides Nintendo, I'd say Shinen and High Voltage are the only companies that even tried to push the Wii to the limits, and had games show for it. They MIGHT be still making this game on the Wii U instead based off the same idea, but it's been too long to know for sure. If you think High Voltage sucks, you must think every creator of shooting games suck, too, because High Voltage tried to get the hardcore shooting experience available on other consoles onto Wii in its own unique way, and even showed alot of possibilities using Wii's motion control schemes.

Please explain how High Voltage pushed Wii to its limits. Please.

Where do you shop? I see it in Best Buy and Gamestop all the time. :/ Check the bargain bins.

I think he might be talking about the Quantum3 engine.

I think though HVS should've focused on making a good game before they focused on pushing the Wii to its limits.

I never said they sucked. I agree the Quantum 3 Engine is one of the greatest 3rd party graphics we've seen on the Wii and perhaps the 3DS as well if the Conduit does come to 3DS. I just think that they don't put a great amount of focus on their gameplay as much as their engine. After all. Gameplay > Graphics.

I thought Conduit 2 was good for some good old multiplayer action but like any COD game I didn't even check-out the single campaign. Good graphics for Wii standards and nice controls weapons and the ASE were pretty cool too.

For sure. I just think High Voltage can put out anything just as good as Activision really. I don't really get why no companies were able to get their games to look as good as Nintendo, High Voltage, or Shinen when it was obvious they could have. I feel like the style of alot of games made it look next gen by using tricks to make it look better, but I feel like those companies actually tried more so. I'm surprised none of the companies used High Voltage's engine, or Shinens(not sure if they just used the standard engine from Nintendo or not).

I shop at alot of places, but I just haven't gone out and specifically looked for anything as of late. I usually just go to whatever store, and get whatever I think could be the most valuable to my entertainment setup and such(lately). I plan on getting AC3 or Tekken soon though as my new games...

Yes, HVS' engine had some of the best lighting and particle effects on Wii. If they became a 2nd party developer then Nintendo could take them under their wing like they did with RARE and RETRO.

I can name 20+ Wii games that look substantially more attractive than The Conduit does. I'm not saying you said anything, but it just baffles me people still think that engine looked anything but choopy and rushed.

Except Rare and Retro weren't exactly veteran developers before their purchase. And don't let the word "veteran" fool you. HVS is definitely a mediocre developer inside and out.

HVS and Activision are two entirely different things. Activision is a five star publisher and HVS is an unwanted developer. I think you mean "HVS can put out anything just as good as Infinity Ward?". Even then, that's still laughable. You cannot compare any aspect of either of the franchises those developers develop. If you do, those comparisons are laughable to say the least.

I don't really get why no companies were able to get their games to look as good as Nintendo, High Voltage, or Shinen when it was obvious they could have.

Capcom, Majesco, XSeed (published a lot of good looking, quality games), Atlus, Ignition's Muramasa, and many other developers and publishers on Wii have many good titles that blow The Conduit's whatever you wanna call it, out of the water. The Quantum3 engine was outdated before it even released, people.

I'm surprised none of the companies used High Voltage's engine, or Shinens(not sure if they just used the standard engine from Nintendo or not).

Because those developers didn't want to use a choppy engine for their games? It wasn't attractive and provided no benefit for developers.

Rather than publish a Left4Dead wannaba, Nintendo should focus on getting Valve to publish a real Left4Dead for the Wii U. And other substantially better games while they're at it.

It was known after year one the Wii wouldn't have 'next-gen' graphics. I honestly think if developers would have tried a little harder, they could have gotten better results, but Xbox/PS games all usually used the Unreal Engine 3, so it was a base engine that kinda just became standard. It all comes down to style I suppose, but even in that case, Infinity Ward/COD makers had nothing over Conduit in terms of style. There has been alot of good looking games, but we're talking about HVS here. I'm not making comparisons of likeliness, but rather differences.

Don't worry, I agree on both counts.

No please, I get it, people want Valve games on their consoles.

I don't think fast paced Valve games like L4D should jump the switch to consoles. I know it made it to 360 but I bet a lot of people would struggle to find someone who perfers both the controls and the community over the PC version.
