Topic: The Christmas battle Nintendo can win.

The Wii U will sell pretty good when Christmas comes. I'm just eager to see how Japan reacts to the PS4 on launch day.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

@uptownsoul
We also have to take into account that pre-order numbers were just as substantial on Wii U, yet no one buckled down and actually went to go buy the stuff they pre-ordered.

People may have pre-ordered, but there's no guarantee they'll go buy the things. People could just be calling dibs, then not show up.

Aside from that, alot of people have embraced digital on Nintendo's platforms, so there could also be a number of people that will buy the game on eShop instead.

Overall, my point is that pre-orders aren't a definite number and digital is making numbers harder to pinpoint, since no one really has access to those numbers.

There will be plenty of games for Wii U around the holidays, with arguably more than the other systems. We'll just have to wait and see, because people say this or that, and it doesn't always matter unless people actually take action.

EDIT: BTW, I'm not arguing which will do better than the other. I'm just stating that all the systems have a fair chance.
The only system that doesn't matter in Japan is Xbox One. That could change pretty fast if Microsoft plays their cards right. Anything could happen.

I think @SCAR392 was comparing Wii U launch to PS4 and Xbox 1 launch.

oh ok, well i thought we were talking about this holiday season because thats what the title of the thread was called. i thought "the christmas battle" was about what would happen this christmas time. but i agree as far as the wii u launch

Yea he just referenced the Wii U pre-order numbers which means he was talking about Wii U Launch looking good then turning out bad could have the same affect on Xbox 1 and PS4. I kinda agree just won't be as bad as the Wii U launch. I don't think people are ready for a "Next-Generation" personally.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

Comparison charts show that the WiiU had higher launch sales than PS3 and Xbox 360, so the problem wasn't as much the launch as the complete lack of momentum following it.

That could be it too but I just don't think people are ready for a "Next-Generation" and everything that brings. I am worried the development cost which are already too high are going to skyrocket causing many companies to go under even with very popular franchises. All the extra gadgets with the PS4 and Xbox One are going to cause more bandwidth being used by consumers which means more and powerful servers being needed. I am not a fan of Cloud Tech and am worried there are going to be lots of problems with it, but it might just be my person bias. These are all personal feelings I have, I could be completely wrong.

There's just too many variables to determine a holiday "winner".

I think the issue that XBO/PS4 will face this holiday season is that a lot of its system sellers will also be on 360/PS3. A new console is exciting and all, but a lot of the core audience for these titles are going to opt to buying the version of the game they can play with the console they already own.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

XBO/PS4 aren't going to "win" anyway because they're unable to. All console launches bring with them a limited stock.

And as CaviarMeths said most of the bigger titles will also be available on platforms people already own.

My original opinion wasn't 'Nintendo is going to sell more consoles than Sony or Microsoft'- that flat out isn't going to happen. People who primarily want Call Of Duty with shiny graphics will probably bump up the cash for a One or a 4, and that is the core gaming market these days. But I do think Nintendo can cater for the 'Family/Kid who has responsible parents' market that has been neglected by the PS4 and Xbox One. All they have to do (it's so easy!) is reach this customer with their advertising and message. Plus these kids are the future core market, they need to experience Nintendo now for the future of the company to have any chance.

I do agree that the pre order hype of the XB and PS may not reflect actual Q4 sales in the long term though. Especially the XB.

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

People are starting to wake up and understand that the WiiU is going to be a much better choice in the future

ok, you gave a list of games. now if you could show me any tangible, statistical data that shows any enthusiasm for those wii u exclusives?

There is no data. It's called magic, aka: A child begging mom after shopping at the produce aisle.

Or the fact that PS fans reside on Nintendo themed articles and forums. PS fans keep up with Nintendo as much as they do PS, it seems. That must help somwhat, right?

Who even cares? We won't have any final numbers until people go buy these games and there is factual/set in stone data.

Unlike certain fan boys .. cough cough I*Looking at uptownsoul* I pay attention to certain things... for instance the fact that Windwaker HD.. broke into the top 100 when it got closer to the release date.. on Amazon.com.. the same with Pikmen 3.. and Super Luigi Bros. and the fact that every Wii U has went up well over 200 to literally thousands of places in the ranks from where they are literally sll the systems and bundles.. no amount of systems have done that in a long time.. and has not went down at all... I believe the OP is right on so many levels... Wii U will win because of families.. for the following reasons.

1. Games that appeal to all ages

2. Price Point

and that is all Nintendo needed.. and needs to win in terms of total sells this holiday season.. and maybe well into next year... it is finally a value for everyone..

Also Nintendo games tend to sell well throughout the console life cycle where on other systems it is mostly new games that only do well.

It's not really worth discussing. I suggest we all just wait and see what happens.
Yes, pre-orders are some insight on this topic, but it's also a point that has fallen through for Wii U.

Add digital buys, audience, people that plan on buying a console but didn't pre-order or won't buy for a while, etc. into the equation, and there's no saying for sure.

Having this stuff available on the shelf next to each other is enough to possibly sway someone's decision that may have been "made-up" before hand when they actually walk into the store.

Yeah, its pretty sad. And it kinda shows how the PS4 MIGHT be incredibly Western with the occasional JRPG game. Its kinda messed up how Japan (the place where Sony is freaking born) is getting the PS4 AFTER America and other countries. I want the PS4 to become a JRPG haven and so far.... KH3 and FF XV and that Lily Bergamo game that Suda 51 is talking about is the only JRPG games I'm seeing. KH3 and FF XV won't come until late 2014 or later..... so I really wanna see the Japanese sales for PS4. I wanna see how they react because ultimately... Japanese developers will only make games for a place where they feel like they can make it.

Because Ninty was unable to keep up the momentum. We should've realized it. Iirc, there was hardly anything on the horizon post launch, except for stuff like Bayonetta that was a long way off.

Sony and Microsoft won't have that problem. They have plenty coming out in 2014 that can keep the momentum up.
