Since Terraria is now available for retail as well (in Europe at least, might be a couple of days until the US retail release), isn't it time for a "Terraria for Wii U" thread?

IMO, it doesn't make sense to bunch the Wii U and 3DS versions together, since these are actually based on different versions of the game. (The 3DS version is based on the mobile version, while the Wii U version is based on the console version.)

Anyhow, I've been the Wii U version for some weeks now, and it's a fantastic port!
Much better Wii U implementation than Minecraft (with the possible exception that Minecraft now have a Mario-specific theme for Wii U only).

The Wii U Gamepad integration is really great in Terraria, with loads of useful stuff. My favorite feature is that the default view on the Gamepad is a zoomed-in version of what's on the screen. And of course there's easy item management and map and such stuff.

Can you place blocks with the touch screen? I've played Terraria on laptop and PS3 and it's basically unplayable with the PS3 controls. They provided absolutely no interface for placing blocks with the right stick.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Yes, the touch screen feature looks like this, where you can use your selected tool within the whole grid around the character. That grid is only displayed on Gamepad.

Actually, it is possible to place block accurately with both the Gamepad (without touchscreen) and Pro Controller. There are 2 different cursor modes that are toggled by pressing the Right stick down. One mode works like a computer mouse, the other mode works like a directional joystick.

The Wimote+Nunchuck setup (no motion control) however, seems pretty limited in functionality.

Yep, a very very nice version with nothing cut but much added, and very polished on top of that. No bugs, no freezing. A game that doesn't need an update at all, can you believe it?

I was worried with all the untested games releasing lately but in this one everything works as intended and much better than expected. Probably the best version of this game ever.

In the beginning of the game, are there any other options of travelling aside except walking?

Walking and basic jumping is the only things you start with for a new character. Loot chests to get better abilities (running, double jumping, etc) to equip your character with. Apart from finding items and abilities in chests, you can also construct items such as different kind of grappling hooks and minecart/rails. Good items can usually be found in the chests in the sky islands and very deep down.

Things to focus on at the very start is to (at least) replace the basic copper sword and pickaxe with more efficient versions, and get more life crystals, plus building rooms where the NPC characters can move in.

Is it possible to zoom in on the game pad when in Display Mode S? My friend and I like to play together, and when it's zoomed in on the game pad on Display Mode A, the tv shows both screens.
