So I've been mulling over whether or not to get Tekken for the WiiU to play with my son. He is a "tween" and it is rated "T". I am usually strict about the games he plays. Has anyone played this on another platform? Is it that bad?

I don't know if it's out yet for any other consoles... But it's a fighting game, so if you're familiar with the genre, you'll probably know enough to make a decision. But look up some trailers and stuff, then decide for yourself what to do. :3
And if you're looking for wiiU recommendations, do so here.

Tekken isn't a bad game. Unlike Mortal Kombat, this is all about the fighting instead of gore. The overall sex appeal of the game isn't as high as in other games such as Dead or Alive (which I think is rated M, but Dead or Alive on the 3DS is T) and Soul Calibur; as a matter of fact, it's barely noticeable. There isn't any swearing as far as I can remember, but I think one of the characters may have alcoholic influence on them...

In short, Tekken is a pretty tame game. I played it myself when I was 8 and it wasn't bad at all. My parents let me play it.

If you aren't feeling it, wait until the game comes out and look at the back of the box in the store. It will show under the ESRB tag what the game is rated and why. Tekken 3D Prime Edition for the 3DS is rated T for Teen because of Mild Suggestive Themes and Violence.

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

Don't be. It's just a basic fighter and not anything insane like Mortal kombat. So no, it isn't bad. I haven't played it on another platform, but I know for a fact that Tekken games usually don't have much blood. Maybe mild swearing, but C'mon, if you are on here then that shouldn't be a problem.

You played Tekken Tag Tournament Two when Tekken debuted? Can I use your time machine?

Tekken isn't bad. There will be some language but it's not anything that wouldn't be suitable for a tween.
Namco made Tekken hoping it would be a fighting game anyone can play. The humour in the game is very childish, and silly. I think the only thing you would have to worry about for your tween is the tough learning curve. But even that is eased with the Combot System.
This isn't like Dead or Alive where boobs are all over the screen, or Mortal Kobat, where Spinal Cords are ripped out and blood is gushing everywhere (Sorry for that mental image)

i'm more of a virtua fighter fan but tekken is not bad, tekken 5 was pretty good and tekken 6 was ok.

tekken tag tournament 2 looks great though. as others will say it's less like dead or alive, more like virtua fighter but easier to grasp and play.

if i could compare it to another fighting game in terms of popularity and characters, then i'd say streetfighter comes close, sort of. even though it is in 2D. but it has similar characters; i.e bob (tekken) & rufus (super streetfighter 4), fei long (street fighter) & marshall law (tekken), ling (tekken) & chun li (street fighter).
