Honestly I don't agree with his reasoning seeing how we got Marth and Roy in Melee but whatever.
Fire Emblem 1 is legendary in Japan, and Roy was just in as advertisement for FE6, which came out a little while after Melee.
Takamaru, on the other hand, starred in only in one game that was relatively a commercial failure.
Also interesting to note, while Little Mac was a popular choice in the West for SSB4, after his annoucement, plenty of Japanese fans were wondering who he was.
