Topic: Switch Anxiety? Relax!

Lots of people here and elsewhere are super anxious about getting their hands the Switch and Zelda Breath of the Wild.

RELAX!

The Wii U has lots of titles to play and it will be 24 months at least before the Switch has a library anywhere near worth while. Just think about all the great Wii U titles available now vs how many Switch titles are coming out this year that you'd actually buy.

I'm waiting until Christmas 2018 to 'Switch'.

Finish your Wii/Wii U catalog, by the time you're done the Switch with games you'd actually buy will be waiting at a local retailer for you.

The Wii U hasn't had that many must have games for a year or so. The last game I got for mine was Twilight Princess HD. My backlog has been reduced to games I got for free. The Wonderful 101 and Darksiders 2.

With no new Wii U games on the horizon? Yeah, I bit the bullet.

"24 months at least?" Hyperbolic, much?

The Switch will have a great software line-up in less than 1 year. I will easily be buying more games in the Switch's launch year than in the first two years of the Wii U's lifespan.

This year alone, I'm considering getting Disgaea 5, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Lego City Undercover, FIFA 2018, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Splatoon 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and they are all expected to be released within the first 10 months of the console's lifespan. Mind you, these are only games that have been officially announced thus far. Who knows what else is on the horizon.

In the first 12 months of the Wii U's lifespan, I probably had only 5 retail games in my possession.

@skywake It's a heck of a system!

@sillygostly I'm a first-party Nintendo gamer. Zelda Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Odyssey is all I see this year.

I'm always a bit late to the party and I don't mind. It's nice to get a new system and immediately have a selection of titles. I still haven't played through Mario 3D World, NSMB, Starfox or Tropical Freeze.

If Nintendo kills Wii U online, it will force me into a Switch for Mario Kart, but that's it.

Compared to the Wii U? I'd give the Switch a year at most.

I'll take you up on this offer and see you in one year.

Well, he also mentioned Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors...

In fact, it's surprising, because I think the Wii U had a great start actually with THIRD party games that I liked a lot. Zombi U, Arkham Asylum: AE, Darksiders2, AC III, ME3: SE, Injustice... it's actually a long list and I loved it, especially GamePad features ... this does not seem to the case again with the Switch right now most of the third parties still shun away.

... for first party though, I think there's no doubt that Switch will have much more than Wii U initially did. At E3 they'll announce a whole bunch of stuff, that's clear.

Cancelled my order for the Switch on launch day purely because a) I had Zelda for the Wii U, and b) My catalogue of unfinished and unstarted (still sitting shrinkwrapped) Wii U games are too many to justify the purchase of a new console full stop right now.

I'm really going to do my best to wait until Mario Odyssey, but I THINK Splatoon 2 might just do it for me (I would have played the original sooooooooooooo much more if you could play it off screen). Especially as by that time I should be able to pick up Splatoon 2, Bomberman R and hopefully Fire Emblem Warriors (or it shouldn't be too far away at the very least) as well. And I would probably bite and get Mario Kart 8 again because no Nintendo system is complete without Mario Kart

Wow, that just shows how badly the Wii U performed.

nah, it just shows how sometimes people talk without really thinking straight, and that people tend to think games that don't even exist yet are more attractive than 2 year old games.
The WiiU doesn't have the best game library ever - okay, but to say the Switch could top it in just the first year is ridiculous. If you just take fall 2014 to winter 2015 for example, the WiiU had Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 1 & 2, Super Smash Bros 4, Capt'n Toad, Mario Party 10, Kirby Rainbow Curse, Splatoon, Yoshi's Woolly World, Super Mario Maker, Project Zero and Xenoblade Chronicles X. That's a pretty good run to have in 15 months. Add every other relevant game released during the rest of the 4.4 years.
To think that the Switch could have all this, and more, in its first year is simply delusional.
Again, I'm sure the Switch will sell better than WiiU (if only because it's hard to sell less), which means it'll get more games eventually, but it's not going to happen overnight. Or in one year. It's going to get there, but maybe in two or three years, depending on how willing to cooperate 3rd parties are.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

A bit hard for it to do that when most of the big Switch releases have Wii U equivalents. Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are games that the Wii U also had. 1-2 Switch isn't as good as Nintendo Land. That leaves Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, Fire Emblem Warriors and Arms vs Smash Bros, Mario Maker, DKCTF, Bayonetta 2, Pikmin 3, 3D World, Yoshi, New SMB, Captain Toad, WWHD, TPHD, Hyrule Warriors, Xenoblade X.....

I think its fair to say that the Switch is going to be at least super close in its first year to what the Wii U had in its first two years. But beyond that you're pushing it a bit. Beyond that you have to include Smash Bros, Captain Toad, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Yoshi, Xenoblade, TPHD and Breath of the Wild. If you include those games in the Wii U library the Switch won't be able to compete.

By the end of next year I think the Switch will have a better library of games than the Wii U had. If only because of ports of Wii U games that I expect we'll continue to see.

Just in time for me to pick up my Switch bundle during Christmas 2018.

I don't play nearly the amount of games I'd like. I haven't played a single game in over a month. I've got at least 50 titles in my backlog.

Still planning to buy all the Switch titles I want when they release. $48 pre-orders on Amazon won't be beat, probably ever, on first party Nintendo titles.

Already have Zelda.

There doesn't seem to be a real reason to get a Switch right away. I'm enjoying Breath of the Wild on Wii U even with the frame drops that happen mostly in towns/villages.

1-2-Switch is definitely not worth its current price, it should've been bundled with the console. Super Bomberman R is OK, but not a must have.

It's really just a hand full of titles that range from OK to bad, however later on it will be worth buying, with Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey and more later on.
Good system, just released too early.

Going off the games that are out and those that are due out, the Switch is going to have an awesome first year line up. I have seven retail titles already and a few downloaded and only one do I regret (can you guess which one?). Obviously it's all down to personal tastes and budgets but with the Switch factor every game seems so much better. I loved my Wii U but the fact I can't take it out of the living room without it losing connection using it would be like going back to the Stone Age.

Yeah, I'm not concerned with the Switch right now. As a Wii U owner, the system does nothing for me. It doesn't help that they expect so many Wii U games to carry it. Breath of the Wild? That's a Wii U game. I already have a Wii U, so I didn't need to buy a new system for that.

Super Mario Odyssey is all the Switch has going for it at this point in my eyes. Even still, I'm not sure that it alone is a system seller for me. I'm waiting for when they announce some really exciting stuff. Like when Pokemon Switch actually gets shown. Or when they announce Animal Crossing. Odyssey looks great and I'm so happy that Nintendo did not go down the Galaxy 3 road (or a 3D World-style game), but that's just one game at the end of the day. The Switch does not entice me as a system. It needs more games.

@gcunit Retail purchases so far = Zelda, 1-2 Switch, Bomberman, Mario Kart, Tetris, Disgaea 5, Street Fighter and ARMS. I know that's 8 but ARMS is a new very welcome edition.
