The Wii-U mode will probably be something as unexpected as Smash Run was. I can't even begin to guess at it.

Let's try and guess such a mode. =)
I'm picturing a mode called 3D smash were all the characters fight on a 3D stage (no 2d side scrolling) and have all their move sets adjusted for the mode.
This mode will probably never happen, but it's fun to dream!

In his latest Famitsu column, Masahiro Sakurai explained the Global Smash Power ranking system in online as a "reverse ranking system" where no one can be considered #1 in the rankings and prevents Smash Bros. online from being a rigid ranking pyramid with little to no chance for humble players to move up the ladder.

  • "You could call it a 'reverse ranking.'" Sakurai writes. "It counts how far you are from the bottom instead of how far you are from the top. It's simple, but it solves a lot of the problems with conventional ranking systems!"
  • In the upcoming Smash Bros. games, Sakurai has removed the goal of being number one, and instead of showing you how far you are from the top, they show you how far you are from the bottom.
  • "By calling [your rank] 'power,' it makes it fun to see the number rise." Sakurai notes.
  • This Global Smash Power will change regardless of a player's score. If more people start playing the game, a player's Smash Power may rise automatically as the player population increases, or it may fall if they are overtaken by other players.
  • Another benefit to the Global Smash Power system is that it is strong against cheaters. Even if a player manages to change their score through hacking the game, it has no effect on other players' Global Smash Power.
  • "I believe it's a very versatile system, but what do you think? It's not just about encouraging competition."

Wow you guys. I thought you'd all be over wanting a second sonic character. It definitely wouldn't be a character slot I'd choose provided there's less than 45-50 spots, but I think it's likely within 2 more installments that there will be another sonic character.

Also, I think it would be cool if they used unlockable characters as free DLC or a game update available from the eshop. Then they could control the information to prevent what happened to pokemon x and y.

Samurai Goroh and starfy definitely should have been characters. Especially starfy. Also, balloon fighter has yet to be deconfirmed, and in fact I would say he has a plausible chance of being in the game due to the stage and the fact that he's been planned for melee and brawl.

EDIT: Also, I noticed ridely didn't have a grave, probably because he couldn't fit in the pic.

Ballon Fighter was already announced, he's been renamed "Villager" for this game.

Until the final roster, don't take anything for granted regarding potential characters. Mewtwo could return, ridley could return, snake could return, anybody other than pichu could return. I'm not saying he's in, but I'm saying he's not necessarily not in. Remember Sakurai likes teasing and surprising.

I completely agree with what he's doing here. Way back, he did state his concerns for those that may feel like the best Smash player, yet find themselves so low in the rankings. I really like what he's doing with this.

I would rather have Pacman than Mewtwo.

Mewtwo is such a generic boring character that's also a clone of Lucario (I lknow, Mewtwo is the original).

Don't understand why people want another clone character rather than a new character with a creative move set.

Mewtwo only shares the standard special move of lucario, and it's not too similar. If mewtwo was made better, he'd be perfect but because he was slow lanky, and relatively weak, it made him really painful to play as.

FYI Sakurai US Miiverse account has 2 more posts than Sakurai Japan account... I wonder if those two posts are from the need of translating or something else

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Honestly, when you think about it, Mewtwo didn't have the most unique moveset. A lot of its attacks requires it to use its tail. Don't get me wrong I want to see Mewtwo return too, just with more psychic moves.
