Aaaactually, there is. Half of the entire Kingdom Hearts series is on Nintendo handhelds, and he could be made to suit the format just fine. If Sakurai wanted a Square Enix rep, Sora would be first in line. The question is if Sakurai wanted to add a Square Enix rep, and my answer is a firm "unlikely."
I highly doubt that. People are constantly whining about Geno from Mario RPG. He'd most likely be in before Sora.
Yes, the one-off mage character that Square Enix keeps in their basement would be given to Nintendo long before their Disney-side poster boy. Besides most vocal =/= most popular. Geno is an obscure character, in relation to Sora.

SSB is about fan-service though.
The only fully handheld game that has gotten characters in SSB is Pokemon. Nothing else. So I don't see KH happening.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

If Yoshi is announced, what art style do you think he will be? Yoshi's New Island, Yarn Yoshi, or the Classic look? I wouldn't mind if it was Yoshi New Island and if he had a baby riding him lol. It would be really cool if it was Yarn Yoshi
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

It'll just be the SSBB model with brighter colors. Like every veteran has been.

Even if I were to accept your idea that Smash is about fanservice, Kingdom Hearts has WAY more fans than Super Mario RPG. Again, it's one game vs. eight. Not only that, but one game on one console vs. eight games spanning eight different consoles, two of which just so happen to be PS2 and Nintendo DS, the two most popular gaming systems of all time. If Sakurai wanted a Square character, Sora would be the first one on the list. Geno wouldn't follow for some time, regardless of what the surprisingly loud fanbase would have you believe. In terms of popularity and fandom, Kingdom Hearts trumps Super Mario RPG by so much, it hurts.

Any art style is welcome as long as he is carrying a baby (different baby for different Yoshi color)

What makes Geno more likely is that he's been in a Nintendo game on a home console.
The Kingdom Hearts games have nothing to relate to Nintendo & have only been on their handhelds. Of course the KH series is more popular, they've made a ridiculous amount of games by now. That doesn't make Sora any more likely though. The latest installment isn't even releasing on a Nintendo platform.
The fanbase for KH on a Nintendo home console is probably next to zero.

Ice Climbers were only in one game over a decade ago and are pretty obscure, yet they showed up playable in 2 smash games.
If we we're to add characters based on the amount of fans or popularity, let's start adding the likes of Master Chief, Harry Mason, Simon Belemont, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, Pac-Man, or some generic character from Call of Duty, among dozens of other franchises.
Let's also not forget where the major Kingdom Hearts titles are on. Kingdom Hearts 1-2: PS2, HD Remakes of said games: PS3, not even the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3 is being considered on the Wii U, but on the other two systems. Also it's not like Nintendo would factor a console's success into picking a character anyways, especially the PS2.
Even if we we're to forget all of that (cause of course, Solid Snake managed to be in Brawl), Sora couldn't be put in Smash 4 because to add him would mean having to put in all sorts of Disney properties, and unlike Solid Snake where they could trade guns for explosives, there is no way one could remove all the Disney influence from the franchise and keep the same feel of the character.
So if there was to be a Sqaure representative, it would have to be someone from Final Fantasy, however the main entries don't have much history on nintendo systems, so they don't have much to work with outside of something generic like a dark mage, So with that in mind, the best they could do with Square would be a Bravely Default character, but since that released only recently this year... yeah there's nothing much left.
I'm disappointed, but I suppose there was always the possibility of this. Looks like the Diddy Kong reveal hasn't changed Sakurai's character announcement schedule. Until summer then, I suppose. It will give people plenty of time to make even more "where's Yoshi?" posts on Miiverse.
It would be nice if someone could tell me what I'm looking at in the Pic of the Day, though.
I actually agree with this. Compared to other peo in the gaming industry, Sakurai is fairly young and modern. I think he is well aware of what the public is expecting

Why do people forget about Dragon Quest? Every single main entry besides 8 has been on Nintendo platforms, and the last several remakes, spin-offs, and main entries have all been Nintendo exclusives.
Given there are ten main games in the series, and numerous spin-offs, there is tons of content that Smash could draw from, The series is insanely popular in Japan, and is gaining popularity in the west, and all of the main entries besides VII and VIII hav all debuted on Nintendo platforms, bascially making Dragon Quest the RPG series is pretty much exclusive to Nintendo's platforms.
I have nothing against Geno(although Mellow would get my vote), but he's wasted as Square Enix's third-party rep. In the end, he would just be another Mario character, and would defeat the point of guest characters which is pretty allowing a third-party companies characters to fight against Nintendo's All-Stars. A Square Enix character like one of the heroes from Dragon Quest, Cecil, Terra, or even Black Mage should get a spot like that, not another Mario character whose only ties to SE is a single role in a Mario RPG that came out on the SNES, and would hardly represent Square Enix.
My vote is to make one of the heroes from Dragon Quest Square Enix's rep for Smash Bros.
