Well, I was talking about journalism in general. Gaming journalism itself is even worse.

Whatever attracts attention pays the bills. So talking about a new Mario game on Wii U is bound to do better than just saying 'Nintendo are working on one for an unknown future piece of hardware sometime in the future'. Yes gaming journalism sucks (even without the social justice controversies), but hey, that's kind of what the internet has done to journalism and news in general.

Either way, I know I'm looking forward to whatever this mystery game is.

I don't know if I'd agree that games journalism is worse or not. It seems to have a different set of flaws mostly. The corruption that's connected with the big publishers is a bit different than any problem you find in news media.
