There's a difference between the headline and the quote.

Headline: Next Mario Will Most Likely Be On Nintendo’s Next Console

Quote: Since we first created Mario, people have compared him to Mickey Mouse. I’ve always said Mickey Mouse evolved with each evolution in animation. You saw Mickey Mouse each step of the way. From early on, I wanted Mario to be that character in the digital world, so that with each digital evolution, he was there to usher in the next era. I think that maybe when we release the next hardware system, you can look forward to seeing Mario take on a new role or in a new game.

I do hope its a 3d exploration platformer like 64 or sunshine where you can explore the whole area of the level been so long since I've seen a good one

If Mario is reserved for the next platform, I'm gonna be pissed. That would make the Wii U the first home Nintendo system since the N64 without a true 3D platformer. (3D world doesn't count. Even though it's 3D, it's trying really hard to be a 2D platformer rather than embracing the different elements of the new dimension. Not really a true 3D platformer in my eyes).

I know that the headline is wrong, but if it turns out to be true, my point stands.

Dang, I was hoping for another 3D Mario game for the Wii U. But then again, if we get a 3D Super Mario for the launch of the next Nintendo system, then that will leave plenty of time for at least another one to be made on that system.

I think Nintendo is preparing to actually launch their next system with a killer app this time. Good for them, and us.

Check out my YouTube channel if you love gaming, and Nintendo (especially Metroid) I think you'll enjoy my videos. :)

Hope so. Even though SonySoft don't do it, Nintendo has a long history of killer apps at launch. The lack of one at the Wii U's launch is part of what made it struggle.

They had a kiler app in Nintendo Land but it just didn't take off, they were hoping it would be the same as Wii Sports which sold a lot of Wiis.

To be honest Nintendo Land was wasted potential, that would've been better off being something released near when amiibo came out.

What I think the situation means is the only Mario platformers we'll get before the next console are Mario Maker and possibly a HD remake (Sunshine comes to mind). namely no new setting as the article states.

The article didn't state that.

AFAIK, they planned to have 6 games available at or around launch: NintendoLand, NSMBU, Pikmin 3, Wii Fit U, Wonderful 101, Game & Wario. 4 of these games got delayed.

Personally, I'll wait and see about the future Tokyo EAD releases, etc. Those sentences from Miyamoto became too much of a rumor central. (And there are games arriving fairly soon that we still know extremely little about.)

Neither NintendoLand nor Wii Sports were intended to be killer apps. They were intended to show off what the hardware could do and give buyers an out of the box experience.

Twilight Princess was the Wii's killer app.

What's wrong with these half-arsed journalists these days? I read Miyamoto's quote multiple times, and there was never a single mention that there won't be another Mario game for the Wii U. He only said that they'll continue to create Mario games as the hardware advances; Just like how Mickey Mouse evolved over time, so does Mario.

I don't want the next Mario to be on the next Nintendo console. Isn't that a long time away? The Wii U's only been about for, like two years now.

Honestly, all journalists are like that.

Not all, there are proper journalists out there, who actually bother to do some research and thoroughly read their own articles.

Yeah, there's nothing that says that there won't be another Mario game. It just says that there's going to be a next gen Mario game (which we already could've guessed anyway). I'd very much like to see a collectathon Mario before the generation is over, especially one that actually brings something new to the table and feels like a next gen game in terms of gameplay. There hasn't been a single game on 3DS or Wii U that has done that.

I guess it's very rare that game journalists have any formal education in journalism. Most are probably gamers that just like to write about games. Ad-financed web sites are dependent on much content and many clicks. Sane journalism based on nothing but pure facts are secondary. These sites need a Nintendo Direct now, for more solid info.
