It might happen. Nothing's been confirmed though.

And yes, the controls could be ported over fine. Heck, they could replace some of them outright, with the GamePad touch screen used to measure how hard Mario is squirting water with FLUDD.

I still play the original, I'd rather see something new.

I'd be fine with this but I'd prefer to see a sequel with some changes and improvements tbh. Especially if it was done by the current 3D Mario team.

You CAN'T switch Sunshine's control scheme to Wii U without sacrificing some of the control over squirting. Nintendo isn't going to remake something if they have to downgrade it to do so.

Can we please stop claiming this? The analog trigger essentially acted as two buttons. Hence, mapping the two different levels to two separate buttons resolves the issue.

The fact that there is a slight bit of variability hardly matters. 99% of the time when using FLUDD, it was with the trigger fully depressed or at the halfway mark.

It does matter. Nintendo isn't going to remove such a functionality from their game. It's just not something they would do. And it is actually pretty important. Being able to control how far you squirted while running was useful, as it essentially helped you aim.

i could easily see super mario sunshine 2 being on the 3ds. you could press b to jump, y to run, r to use fludd and l & r to hover, hold r to rocket, and holding r and using gyroscopic controls to use turbo. start would access the pause menu, u could use the joystick to move and the select button to access the map. and they could bring back old worlds like pinata park and Rico park.

Super Mario Sunshine isn't held as high regard as some of you think it is. They're not going to be producing a direct sequel to it.

It wouldn't of been remastered in HD, but I was holding out hope a few years ago that this would see a basic New Play Control rerelease. I think that Wiimote control for FLUDD would've been a positive change instead of using the analog stick.

Might get some hate for this but I'd rather have a remake that takes advantage of the gamepad then a sequel. New idea for next 3D Mario, please!

I could totally see Wiimote control being an option. But then you still have the same problem. If people need a specific controller to play the game that's not bundled with the system, the remake doesn't serve it's purpose as a stopgap and quick cash nearly as well.

now imo the wiimote controls would be awkward. and if i have to use that stupid nunchuk agian, ill go crazy. and the wii u gamepad would be perfect. and like i said before, i could easily see a sequel landing on the 3ds or new 3ds.

As much as I love SMS, I doubt it. As said before in this thread, resources would be put to much better use making new games than remaking old games. I love SMS to death (even though it's one of the games that not as many people like) and I always thought its visuals were beautiful. Seeing it in HD would be so great. But no. I'd rather see new games. I never liked how many remakes Nintendo likes to create.

Yes, the Gamecube adapter exists, but forcing people to either buy or already own a peripheral completely undermines the purpose of an HD remake, which is to create quick and easy cash that holds over fans.

Even outside of control scheme, Sunshine has a lot of issues, most notably it's physics engine, that would have to be fixed, further impeding the process

But Nintendo has downgraded remakes. Super Mario 64 DS uses a D-pad which isn't as precise as an analog stick. Donkey Kong Country Returns runs at 60fps, and the 3DS remake runs at 30fps, Wind Waker HD took away the vibrant colors and added in bloom, and Xenoblade for the New 3DS looks worse than the Wii version.

And the purpose of an HD remake is to introduce the game to people who either didn't play it, or wasn't born when it came out, not a quick cash grab. And they could always bundle the GCN Controller adapter with the game. Another thing, getting a GCN Controller adapter and controller is no different from getting a Wii U Pro Controller, because their not sold with the systems, and they will both cost $50.

Thank you.

Also, the original Wii's N64 Virtual Console required a [sold separately] GameCube controller or a CC or CCP. So, Nintendo is not new to the "game would require separate controller" issue.

SMS HD could use the new GCN controller/adapter, or a Wii U Pro.

@Sherri The game would also not steal away any resources from new game development, as Miyamoto stated that any further remakes on Wii U would simply be outsourced to a partner. Wind Waker HD only took 6 months to produce, anyway. And Nintendo hasn't had a lot of remakes in the past, but rather, simple ports (Super Mario Advance series, for example).

Hello, also. Another first post here, in this thread!

This is an only an assumption but I'm not sure I'll have a chance to say this in a better context. Sin and Punishment might be the only game where I really regret using the GCN controller over an N64 controller. Barring maybe some nostalgic N64 games...

It wouldn't be a problem since if they did green-light this for the Wii U (Which I'd find very surprising), surely the traditional control option would be maintained as well when played on a more conventional controller like the Wii U's gamepad.

Besides, I think it's time for a new, original Mario with a new concept that is not a sequel to Galaxy or 3D Land.

Well, now that you mentioned it, I wouldn't mind an stereostopic 3D Galaxy with lots of planets and planetoids. I always have the 3D on, simply love it even when it adds nothing to the game, and the improved 3D is the main reason I want a New 3DS so much, so I think I could enjoy a 3D Galaxy a lot.

Oh, I was talking about console games for Mario. A 3DS Galaxy is something I would very much enjoy, too! (I'm also one of those people who crank up the 3D. I love that feature and even on my regular 3DS I hardly have any problems with it.)

I see, it's just that when you said "a sequel to Galaxy or 3D Land" I mixed them both in my mind, fantasized about a 3D Galaxy and had to vent it!

Only if they can fix the sometimes sloppy controls and fix the horrible level design without FLUDD.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I would like an SMS remake! But 2016 is the 20th anniversary of Super Mario 64 so maybe Nintendo is planning for an HD remake of that game. Well next year is the 30th anniversary of Super Mario Bros and they will be releasing Mario Maker, so I don't really know...

I'm in the same boat. I don't hate remakes, but it ticks me off because I feel like they're wasting resources to make a great game...uh, SLIGHTLY better. When they could just be making a great new game...Super Mario Sunshine 2? (or something like it)

And if you don't like how many remakes Nintendo does then you'd better stay as far away from Capcom and Sony as you can!...Well, I guess Sony isn't too bad, lately though they seem hyper remake happy.

If a new SMS remake will happened, I think Nintendo are going to make that you aim with F.L.U.D.D using your gamepad and if you are playing with a Wii U Pro Controller or a Classic Controller, I think they make it so you aim the regular way.
