Hey guys,
I bought a Wii U a few days ago and order Super Mario Galaxy since I read that Wii U can run Wii games.
I also read that you need a Wii remote for it which I don't have at the moment. I am wondering whether I should buy a Wii or a Wii U remote ? Will I need the nunchuk too or the game will work just with the remote ? From what I read so far I need Wii controllers if I want to play Wii games on my Wii U is that the case or not ?

Hello,

two short answers:

Wii Remote and Wii U Remote are the same. However, there are old "Wii Remotes" and new "Wii Remotes Plus" but both work for the Wii as well as for the WiiU.
For Super Mario Galaxy it doesn't matter since every Wii Remote will work. However, you should always buy a "Wii Remote Plus" if you can choose.

For playing Super Mario Galaxy you need the sensor bar (it should be in your WiiU package), a Wii Remote (that is THE Wii Controller) and a Nunchuck.

Maybe you didn't know: The WiiU has a few Wii games in its digital EShop and as a matter of fact, Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are in the EShop. So if you don't want the game on a disc, you could order it digitally.

Both of the Galaxy games can only be played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, I don't know what other Wii games you plan to buy, but as long as you get a Wii Remote + (used for games like Skyward Sword which I'm fairly certain will be added this year), one Nunchuck and a Wii U Pro Controller (along with the Gamepad you already have) you have the capabilities to play any/all games you might want on Wii U.

I already ordered 2 pro controllers so I can play Mario Kart with friends when they come over. But will order a remote and a nunchuck. Thanks for the quick answeres guys ! Much Appreciated

@PsionicTr: Did your model include a sensor bar? I think most versions have that now (but for example the European 8GB models didn't), but just to make sure. You need a sensor bar for the Wii remote, and it's only needed for the Wii remote.

Yes I have the motion bar because I ordered the 32 GB model. All 32 gb versions ship with it.
