Can we please not have a kidnapping plot? They're really stale.

Yeah, at this point, it's really getting old for the Mario games.

I agree that it's a bit stale but if it was anything but a kidnapping, would it really be a Mario game? At least we're talking 3 kidnappings here for the price of 1!
I prefer the hub idea from Mario 64 and Sunshine than the linear paths found in NSMB and Mario Galaxy 2. But when I say open world I mean bigger than a central hub. Sunshine had a massive 'hub'; maybe if they expand on that like having it bigger and going through the Mushroom Kingdom, rather than Delfino Plaza. With goombas and koopas and other insignificant baddies. Something that at least doesn't give the feel of being in an enclosed area.
I suppose what we're all in agreement with is we want something that expands on the ideas in Galaxy but returns to the roots of Mario 64 and Sunshine, whilst still presenting something new and original.

Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are quite literally my favourite games of all time. Nevertheless I don't think Galaxy 3 would be the ideal direction for the series - it ought to go somewhere new. I very much doubt though we'll be seeing a completely new direction of 3D Mario game coming on the Wii U - I imagine they'll wait until NX.

However, there's a massive hole in the Wii U's holiday line-up. It's going to be a lot quicker for them to put together a Galaxy game where they can recycle large parts of the old engine than start a new game completely from scratch. Therefore I definitely think Galaxy 3 is a possibility, and if it did happen, I don't doubt for a second that I would love it.

Yes, yes it would. Mario is defined by his gameplay much more than his plots, as long as you can still run and jump through the game like you normally can, it's a Mario game.

Less pointless? It was the same thing, just done over again. I didn't notice that difference in level quality everyone mentions, they all seemed on the same par.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Yeah, Galaxy 2's storyline is just as generic as every other Mario games. The only games with remotely good storylines really are Sunshine and Galaxy 1.

Why do we need Super Mario Galaxy 3? We already have two galaxy games. What we really need is a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine!

Some random dude on Nintendo Life.
Toriel left for a while, so Freaky Fred took over her place!
Not changing this part of the signature until Nintendo announces Super Mario Sunshine 2.

Yeah.. I think Sunshine's noteworthy narrative wasn't in the main story, but rather in the worldbuilding. The different missions and the lore culture conveyed therein. Not to mention the diverse settings.

Galaxy 3 for Wii U will be amazing, but they need to mix it up. Bowser Galaxy. Something like that.

Rosalina Galaxy would make more sense.

Well, I'm not sure you can convince a ton of boys to play Rosalina as main character. How much did Princess Peach DS sell? It's got to be a cool character.

The levels in Galaxy 2 are more difficult and more linear than in Galaxy 1.

Rosalina isn't a cool character? The possibly immortal galactic princess? How is she any less cool than any other character in the Super Mario universe that already has their own spinoff?

Besides, this kind of game is more appealing to older gamers than younger gamers anyway. Or at least gamers that are old and mature enough to understand that having the main character be female doesn't automatically make a game unappealing.

Mario was framed and blackmailed in Sunshine and the story was great.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

Mario always appeals to younger gamers too. That's a huge fanbase of Nintendo and will always be. And a princess of any kind is not cool enough, that's just the way it is. I'm 34 and not interested in this so much unless it's someone who can kick ... like Samus. I'm not even buying those particular amiibo either.

Not this gen when the younger players have moved to mobile and Nintendo is basically left with the older players that grew up with them.

No it's not, it's sexist.

So you're saying there are no kids on miiverse, no kids in house playing Wii U in the living rooms... somehow all the 10 million or whatever Wii U users are mature adults? Yeah, don't think so. And it might be sexist to you, but it's a completely legitimate reason. Next you'll say that reading your favorite magazine instead of Cosmo is sexist, or not wearing ladies clothes is sexist.

No, but there's significantly less of them now than there were last gen.

That is not a legitimate reason whatsoever. You're saying that girls inherently aren't cool, they have to act like boys in order to be accepted. That is blatantly sexist. Now I don't consider myself a feminist or SJW by any means, all I'm saying is that you should just accept the character for their own merits instead of blatantly writing them off because they don't fit a narrow minded archetype (seriously, I'm getting sick of the pervasive dudebro mentality in this industry, it's utterly toxic).
